Great job, mvp 78!! I was hoping someone would start the game thread early--because of the 1:35 start time.

Very weird lineup even though just Kike, Mr. No-Hitter, and JDM (injured), are out.

Story leading off kind of makes sense, but Dalbec 5th?

I love Day baseball, but I don’t think the players are crazy about it.

AGon in 2012:

"We play too many night games on getaway days and get into places at 4 in the morning. This has been my toughest season physically because of that. We play a lot of night games on Sunday for television and those things take a lot out of you."

We did the right think trading this pansy.

His career fell off a cliff as he aged. Should have never traded for him in the first place. Would rather still have Rizzo.

@jcmccaffrey

-Cora says it’s a day off for Kiké Hernandez but also trying to get offense going

-Martinez still sore and getting treatment will travel to Tampa, likely won’t play Friday

-Hill will start Sunday and Houck piggyback. Houck is unvaccinated and can’t go with the team to Toronto

In hindsight, yes.

Plus, the money saved might have allowed us to keep Beltre.

I thought Gonzalez was the perfect guy for the Sox to acquire. But I realized something was off when the Padres took Rizzo in the deal instead of the more highly-touted Lars Anderson. Were our evaluators somehow wrong in their assessments? After all, AGon was an overall number one draft pick... not a "former", by the way -- he really was picked first overall. But now he was traded twice, and still in his prime...

Then what did Epstein do as soon as he took over Chicago? Got Rizzo back in a trade to be his new cornerstone.

He was great when we got him and while with us, but he fell off a cliff shortly after we traded him to LA.

Anderson wasn't the top prospect at the time. He was highly ranked going into 2009 and then fell flat on his face in AA (673 OPS).

Prior to the trade, the SoxProspects had the rankings as:

Casey Kelly (included in the deal)

Ryan Kalish

Anthony Rizzo

Lars Anderson

Jose Iglesias

Felix Dobront

Anthony Ranaudo

Josh Reddick

Sox also included #16 prospect Reymond Fuentes in the trade.

Too bad we couldn't have talked them (and ourselves) into Kelly, Kalish & Anderson- maybe throw in Ranaudo.

It was the Padres that really blew it.

As it goes today I'd go most of the times. You have a lot of OBP and speed there.

Well don’t forget the San Diego GM at the time was Jed Hoyer, who previous job was as one of those talent evaluators in Boston. Hoyer then went to the Cubs where he traded for Rizzo again…
