Latest on the MLB app says: Whitlock might be available for the Toronto series; Kike has regressed; Sale is making terrific progress and should get to the Sox no later than next spring (out of an abundance of caution of course); Eovaldi has regressed; Taylor is pitched on June 21 but won't be back until July; Arroyo could be back in time for Cleveland (so what?); Paxton, to my surprise, could make it back by July or August.

So to me the biggie is Whitlock in Toronto. With Houck unavailable, will Cora use him in relief even though Crawford, the 5th starter, is abysmal? Thanks to tomorrow off, Crawford won't start vs. Cleveland, but will be needed in Toronto if Whitlock goes back to the pen.

They could keep Winckowski over Crawford. Winckowski has shown himself capable of shutting down the two worst offenses in MLB…

Crawford can't make the trip to TOR either. He was on the restricted list the last time they went to TOR.

Have a great time in Maine!! Be careful of that white water rafting.

I'm the one who said Shmuck. My sincere advice is to stop responding to Old Red for awhile. He's wrong, you're right, but arguing with him is like wrestling with a pig: he enjoys, it and you get muddy.

I'm not muddy, though.

I guess when we are wrong, and admit it, Red has to keep bringing it up incessantly, but when he makes a mistake, you get no admission and a bunch of subject-changing.

We white water raft, every summer. It's not as dangerous as it looks, but thanks for the well wishes.

If Crawford keeps doing well, and Sale comes back strong, going to TOR could be a complicated event.

I wonder if they are considering lifting the restrictions, or at least requiring a recent negative test result to play.

Given where omicron/covid is right now, a negative test makes a ton of sense. But I think the Canadians are simply pissed at us.

Yes, I heard they are going to give the Red Sox an exemption, but just for the Red Sox, not to any other teams.

There are still many countries taking COVID more seriously.

One of my sisters is from New Zealand. They get one positive case there, and all hell breaks loose. Then again, they hardly had anyone die, too, so there's that.

My sister cam home to visit my parents and got stuck here for months.

Pivetta, Winckowski, and Hill start the Cleveland series, June 24-26. That leaves Wacha for game 1 in Toronto and TBD to start the 2d game on June 28.

And apparently it can’t be Crawford if Whitlock is still out.

That leaves Seabold or Bello…

Red Sox reinstate Christian Arroyo from covid list

Tickled pink in Texarkana on my way to Arkadelphia.

Does Arroyo have some tiny trade value, now?

I was just happy he had a game like that after being written off. I also see it as a tribute to Bloom and Cora the way they stick with guys and give them every chance.

It's just like that with us, on this board. Posters are so patient when someone makes a point, because we all know how hard it is to conjugate verbs while dangling our modifiers, sighting stats and always keeping an I on homophones.

Why is everyone’s favorite bargaining chip the journeyman utility infielder? A guy every team has passed on multiple times already?

He’s the Sox infield depth right now. When trade time comes next month, players with Arroyo’s talent and skill set will not be hard to find. But prospects in the Sox system - possibly ones you prefer not go - will be the players in demand…

Trade value? After 1 good game? Some on here wanted him DFA’d, and now trade value.

Cora gave Arroyo a shot by giving Bogaerts back to back days off, and it really paid off. Sometimes we have to recognize there's some method to Alex's proclaimed (by some, not me) madness.

Arroyo could not have had a better game, what with three hits, including a dinger, and three rbi's, plus playing a faultless SS which included a brilliant tag of the Cleveland baserunner who very briefly lost contact with the bag.

Arroyo is 27 and in his 6th MLB season with a cumulative WAR of +1.6, largely the result of last year's +1.5 in 57 games with an OPS of .769. This season those numbers are -0.4 and .623.

Based on last year, Bloom/Cora might be tempted to keep Arroyo another season if they believe/know Bogey is headed elsewhere.

Cora gave Arroyo plenty of shots before last night’s game, and Arroyo had pretty much sucked, and that is why some on here wanted him DFA’d, so I don’t think Cora giving Arroyo a shot last night had any real significance outside of Arroyo having a good game for once.

I do not disagree with "plenty of shots" and probably should have said "one more shot."

The point remains that it paid off big time.

I have been as anti-Arroyo as most have been, but I'm always happy to revise my opinion. Arroyo did not have a terrible season last year and in fact was a pretty useful utility player with an overall WAR of +1.5 in 57 games.

That makes sense to me.

The bottom line on Arroyo's game is, thank God the guys who run the team have more patience than the fans.

Agree. And I count myself is one of the impatient fans.

I don’t get why anyone wants him traded or DFAd. He’s a utility infielder, a bench player. If your biggest weakness the guys on the bench, something is going right…

Usually when fans try to run a player out the door, their eyes are on a younger minor leaguer with more potential. I hope fans aren’t so quick to dump Arroyo at the first sign of trouble because they want to pave the way for Ryan Fitzgerald. Arroyo is a major leaguer with several seasons of experience while Fitzgerald is older than Arroyo and yet to debut in MLB…

Let me be frank and say I saw no reason for patience with Arroyo. Last night for me was revelatory. Yeah, the hits were great, especially in the 9 spot, but he made a lot of plays at SS and one of them was just really heady, getting that guy who barely overran 2B, but just enough to get tagged.

The only credit I can claim is that I'm not freaking blind. Arroyo had one heckuva game at bat and in the field.

Arroyo looked very good last year, too.
