Wish we had Story.

Why so? He's 1 for freaking 8.

Oh, wait. Hernandez, Arauz, Arroyo, JBJ, Plawecki, and Shaw are all hitless in April.

So maybe you have a point.

Small Sample Fever is running high!

I can't imagine what life is like freaking out over 4/162 of a season

I don’t think Story is much help at this point. He does need to get some AB, but he only had 6 AB in ST, so I don’t see the Sox getting any output from him for sometime.

Why do you expect 1 for 8 to keep repeating itself over and over?

Is that what happens more often than not?

If you look back to last year the difference between the Sox making the postseason, or not was one game. I’m not freaking out, but they all count.

Yes to the ist question, and depends on the hitter like JBJ for the 2nd.

Hill may be old at 42, but I like his numbers. Alexander's aren't too shabby either.

First starts for both, so 80 pitch limit is likely, which means bullpens should be a factor.

The Sox bullpen has been a big factor in all 4 games this season.

The rotation has given up 11 ER's in 18.1 innings and the bullpen has given up 3 ER's in 17.2 innings. Missing are the 2 unearned runs in extra innings vs the Yankees.

The Sox ERA of 3.60 is 12th best in MLB. The Sox OPS of .552 is ranked 28th in MLB.

Time for moonslav to remind us the Sox still have 158 games to play.

These games count as much as others, but every season, every team has poor 4 game stretches. I just don't get all worked up over any 4 game stretch, unless it involves an elimination game or we're a game or two away from elimination games. (That doesn't make me better than anyone who does.)

Hell, bad 10-25 games stretches don't both me half as much as some, here.

The problem i have is that this division is very good. You don’t wanna be 7 to 8 games under 500 early and having to work yourself out of that.

Worth pointing out since DOOM springs eternal for any true Red Sox fan that 1-161 is still in play as of game time today.

@byJulianMack

Trevor Story is here in the Red Sox clubhouse. He said had some sort of food poisoning that has kept him out.

Being a little slow out of the starting gate will generate an overreaction from the faithful every time. The old line about it being a marathon not a sprint is always forgotten.

The lack of hitting is a concern right now with this team.

Tigers starting lineup batting averages:

.063

.200

.313

.133

.308

.167

.000

.000

.000

It's not just the Sox this time of the year.

Conversely, can anyone ever remember a team that gets off to a hot start, say 15-5, and the majority its fans aren't excited? Or are warned not to be excited (except by bitter NY fans)? Do players of that team ever go, "Bah, it's still early...?" Do coaches or writers ever stress how important it can be to get off to a bad start? Who really thinks games in a September pennant race carry the same weight as in the first month of April?

Not significantly better than some other divisions ... but this is not the thread for that debate.:)

We're both on the same frequency wave.

I'm sorry for you.

I missed the first diving attempt. Was it as graceful? Did he knock the ball even further away that time?
