Last year the Sox and Yanks finished tied for second place. In the play-in game it was Cole vs Eovaldi . The Sox won. That's baseball. There is no bigger crapshoot than a one game showdown. Now , MLB is eliminating the play-in game.

Maybe, because of Yankee crybabying?

I understand the single game playoff from an entertainment perspective. Heck I even tuned in to watch all of the NL wild card games because who doesn't love a winner takes all game? But from a competitive standpoint it didn't really make sense to have a grueling 162 game season and then have the team with potentially the 2nd best record play one game to determine if they would make the real playoffs. That would be like having a 12 round boxing match, and then at the end they're like "whoever lands the next punch first wins".

That was a bit different, of course.

The Red Sox also lost one of those in 1948, in the Denny Galehouse game.

I wasn't alive yet. They also finished with the same record in 78, whereas last year the Dodgers finished with 106 wins yet had a one game playoff with the 90 win Cardinals.

Don't blame me. That idiot McCarthy should have started Parnell.

Maybe a history lesson is in order.

The Sox won 99 games in 1978 and had to play a play-in game, while the KCR won 92 and waited for the winner. The NL teams won 95 LAD & 90 PHI, so the `best & second best teams had to play-in.

One of the worst injustices in MLB playoff structuring was back in 1972, a strike year, where they did not make sure all teams played the same amount of games. The Tigers played 1 more game that the Sox and ended up making the playoffs by 1/2 games (tied in the loss column.)

Now, compare that to two teams tied with 3rd and 4th best records in the AL having to play-in to the playoffs.

Stop crying.

We lost in '72 & '78. You lost in '22. That's history!

Who is crying? I never said it was unfair the Yanks lost, and you're the one bringing up history. All because you didn't like what I said about Bloom. I'm sure he'll do better next year 😏

Sounded like complaining, which is like crying.

Had nothing to do with Bloom.

Boone & Cashman ARE the tailspin!

I’m gonna lay some of this at the feet of Hal. Cashman has done a great job of building our farm, but he kinda went second rate again on our upgrades. Maybe we didn’t have the pieces for Soto, but we did for Castillo and we let him go to another AL contender. We didn’t pony up for the best pen arms, and now they’re injured and we are relying on Anthony f***ing Banda in big spots. I’m also perplexed by the degree of injury that the Yanks have every year. We don’t have durable players beyond Judge, who wasn’t durable early on. It’s like the team has lost it heart at the wrong time.

I’m so glad I started multiple new jobs this last month. Baseball is no longer a refuge. It’s a source of stress

Just stay calm and sya to yourself, "There is always next year."

I’m pouring all my baseball time into my jobs. 9-0. I just can’t. It’s a reverse 1978. They suck

You've said that a lot, this year, only to regain hope, over and over.

Montgomery 5-0 with Cards with a 1.47 ERA.

The genius that is Cashman.

Biased post!!

You intentionally omitted Harrison Bader’s numbers with the Yankees!!
