The bottom line is, the players didn't pay much attention in the last couple of CBA's to increases in minimum salary.

They can't expect to make up for that all at once.

If that's what they're thinking, it's no wonder these negotiations are going nowhere.

Unless for some reason that’s more important to them than we realize…

John Henry taking a prominent role in CBA negotiations starting today is potentially one of the first rays of hope in a long time. He’s long been described as a voice of reason in these things, while Colorado’s Dick Monfort and others try to crush the union.

Maybe the right people haven't been at the table?

Why would it suddenly be more important than it was the last decade?

I don’t know. I will raise hypotheticals, but I am not authorized to speak for the MLBPA…

Like I’ve said many times that if the players don’t like what they are getting paid let them find another job out in the real word.

MLB career is the real world.

Not in the big scheme of things, and I’ll say it again if they don’t like what they are paid just like with any job let them find a new one.

I think Henry Ford said the same thing during the early days of the UAW…

Spend 100,000 hours training for a job. Spend 5 years not even making a living wage, but working your ass off. Finally get an opportunity to earn money.

"Get a REAL job!"

Baseball was better when it only got to 450 players!

And if MLB owners are dissatisfied with their money-making machines, let them invest in a different enterprise "out in the real world."

They were dissatisfied enough to just shut down the whole operation at the end of last year.

I’m all for that too. Like I have stated before I have no sympathy for either side. The owners do already invest though in different enterprises.

The MLB and MLBPA met for over an hour Monday in Jupiter, Florida.

It was actually about an hour and fifteen minutes. It's unclear if the two sides are done for the afternoon or are just taking a break, but we'll likely hear more clarity soon. Still, it has to be taken as good news after the two sides only met for 15 minutes last Thursday in New York. MLB has told the MLBPA that there needs to be an agreement on a new CBA by Feb. 28 to prevent delaying the start of the season. There are still big divides on the luxury tax and early arbitration-eligibility, among other things, so the clock is ticking.

Just can't work up any sympathy for either side. The owners are a bunch of smug , greedy , dishonest billionaires. ( And that includes John Henry. ) Just not a very likable group. And the players are basically a bunch of spoiled rotten young men who are looking for more and more money all of the time for playing a game. Not exactly a part of the " working class." And the windup to it all is that it is going to be the fans who have to pick up the tab.

Couldn’t of said this any better myself. Well written.

It's their livelihood. I consider them workers just as much as I am. The money doesn't just get handed to them. They have to make it to the top.

Why shouldn’t players try to make as much money as possible? It’s what a hell of a lot of people try to do.

With so many careers just an injury or DFA away, grab what you can, while it lasts.

True, some players are spoiled, as are many owners, but spoiled rotten people are everywhere.

Yes it’s their livelihood, but they work for someone. It’s not the other way around.

They're just the same as any other unionized labor force.

There is nothing wrong with players trying to get as much money as they can just like anyone else, and I never said there was, but if they don’t like what they get then you either play, or don’t. I think the players need the owners more than the other way around. The owners already have businesses.
