I'd be happy to make do with $5M. Anything after that is just a Scrooge McDuck lifestyle of swimming in gold coins.

McDuck was a fraud. All that money and yet he never splurged for pants?

Look, I agree Semien will be too costly, but you know what I meant by projected WAR - the stat you always use to make a player look better or worse.

Finding the worst comp is also a favorite trick of yours,

I hope the Ms sign him, and we can watch your tune change in mid note.

This sentimental poster is a fan of Marcus Semien, a second-generation Golden Bear at Cal (where my daughter attends law school).

Robinson Cano was offered as a positive comp for Semien. Using WAR conversion, the Mariners got their money's worth from Cano (although his 2018 suspension helped undermine the M's 89-win season).

From the article: Montas, for instance, is probably the least likely of the “big five” members of the arbitration class to be moved.

They probably just move the ones with the biggest projections - Olson, Manaea, Chapman, and Bassitt. Maybe even just 3 of them.

If I had to guess one who stays, I would say Bassitt, since he probably has the least trade value as the oldest and only one year of control left. That he projects to make the least of the 4 probably helps, too.

One never discussed name on the list that might interest Boston is Chad Pinder. Good overall player, but he does not really excel either offensively or defensively (at least at 2B). But he might be available, doesn't make a lot of cash, and plays a slew of positions, which is something Bloom clearly values...

Surprisingly, MLB Trade Rumors listed Chad Pinder as a non-tender candidate.

It seemed like you were warning of the dangers of singing Semien by using the Cano example.

I guess I misinterpreted your intentions. My bad.

BTW, Steamer projects Semien to have his 3rd best career fWAR of 4.5.

Yes, he was problematic. Nonzero chance he was on the Epstein flight logs.

I will not be drawn into Chad Pinder discourse.

Yes. They usually do it by weighing projected salary vs projected fWAR and deciding if the player is worth it. This is not a surprise.

I doubt he gets non-tendered, unless Oakland also tries to re-sign him for less.

Lucy is the only good Pinder.

Mike Pinder of the Moody Blues takes umbrage to this statement. Although like many, he is probably a fan of Lucy.. \.

Right. I had a suspicion I was leaving out another good Pinder.

Neither was Marwin Gonzalez. What's your point?

I'm not advocating for Marwin to come back.

I'd take Iggy over Pinder.

OK. But Iglesias can agree to go elsewhere. Pinder can't if they del for him...

Heyman Shmeyman!

$115/5 gets Baez.

For Taylor: MLBTR and Fangraphs projections are all in the 4/60-64M range.

That money seems fine.

If Baez will really get $160M (I'm assuming 6-8 yrs), then Taylor looks like a better choice at $64M/4 or $75M/5.

If Baez goes for $100M/5 like MLBTR projects, I'd like him more than Taylor. Once Baez starts getting above $115M/5, the balance flips... IMO.

Lots of teams are adding Rule 5 eligible players to their rosters.

Drum roll...

I mean, it's better if Bloom holds out until the last minute and is actively shopping guys he won't protect.

I don't even want to pay Baez 20AAV.
