As much as people want to lament the loss of SP’ers that went 8 or 9 innings often and downplay the increased role of analytics, did everyone notice the first two batters up for the 3rd time got on base?

That's why I was ok with him being pulled.

The Rays have tight D and legions of 95 mph arms, but the Red Sox can win this short series if pitchers focus on Tampa's two elite players: Franco and Arozarena. Don't let those two beat you; the rest of the Rays batters that led the AL in Ks but who always seemed to come through are simply overdue for a market correction this postseason.

Lowe is better than Arozarena.

Rosters were due in about 25 minutes ago----wondering if JDM is being listed just in case or for the return to Fenway . Haven't seen any release of names yet on various sites

Roster for ALDS may be out already. My prediction is that Cora stays with the wild card roster of 26, except he replaces Richards with Sale and Wong with JDM. I think 12 is the right number of pitchers and 14 for position players. Of the latter, to me it makes sense to add JDM even if he can't play today or tomorrow. A good bat is pretty valuable.

We probably could get by with 11 pitchers very easily, with all these days off, but I doubt we do that.

I like having 3 catchers, so we can PH for them twice, if needed.

The Sox and Rays have tended to play tight one run differential games leading to the raised possibility of extra inning games, 12 pitchers could be warranted. Recall EO's rare effort stint vs the Dodgers in 2018.

On the other hand, who is #12 ---Garrett Richards or Matt Barnes or Ottovino ??

JD Martinez, Danny Santana and a Martin Perez added.

Matt Barnes, Darwinzon Hernandez Jarren Duran, Jonathan Arauz left off.

Santana and Perez may be subtractions by addition . The demise of Matt Barnes is a shame and a waste of talent , but unless he has a hidden physical problem, I'm not surprised that he's considered currently unreliable. He will have the offseason to visit his favorite sports psychologist.

Good thing we have Barnes for another 2 years......he's back to being a wuss....first few months were the aberration.

Not sure I see any value in Santana but I do like the name Santana. I just like to say it. S A N T A N A.

I trust Cora.

JD apparently turned his ankle stepping on the 2B bag on his way out to Right Field.

Can we just settle the debate and tell him that he's a DH, not an outfielder?

A guy can miss the foul line going out and coming in but not miss the bag?

I can see it now with a walk off homer while blood seeping through his socks.

It was a freak accident. I have sprained my ankle and fallen down crossing a street because I didn't look down and ahead. But I rarely sprained my ankle playing full court basketball up to age 40, playing baseball, etc.

JDM has risked his ankle every time he slides into a base or fouls off a pitch.

Santana is fine instead of Arauz/Wong.

Stunning. Thanks. Santana is versatile, but I like Arauz. I agree with whoever said he trusts Cora.

Excuse me, but did you say that Sale wasn't added to the wild card roster?

A lot of former BoSox influence in these playoffs. Rays- Cash and Margot.White Sox- LaRussa , Kimbrel, Kopech and Moncada. Milwaukee- JBJ. Dodgers- Roberts, Mookie, Kelly and Price. Giants- Kapler . Maybe I forgot a couple. Lester almost made it. Edited by dgalehouse

I didn't say that.

Sale was not on the roster for the Wild Card game.

He is on the roster for this ALDS series.

It's going to be a fun series.

We'll find out how good this team really is against the best team in AL.

But, he was left out of the list of added players.

It's not the same as "you said he wasn't added." As a teacher, I'm sure you'd appreciate the difference.

The players that were included in the list were the ones that were already in question. Note that Darwinzon wasn't on the WC roster but was noted as "left off."

We already were told that Sale would be the Game 2 starter.

I get that. I'm just pointing out how someone might have thought Sale was left off by just reading that one post.

Max Magoo. Didn't he used to play for the Packers?

Yes, and it was reported that he had a *blinding* hangover in the Super Bowl but caught 2 TD passes anyway.

Yup. I remember the announcer , Ray Scott. Bart Starr would throw a touchdown pass , and Scott would say just one word , " Dowler. "

Lowe is better than Arozarena.

Lowe has a little higher overall WAR, and a little lower negative dWAR. He hit 5 homers vs. Boston, so I'm sure they'll have a plan to keep him in the yard. Arozarena can be a force on the bases and is more of a threat to hurt the Sox in different ways.

The actual Sox roster for the ALDS, without the confusion of incorrect additions and deletions, is 13 pitchers (a surprise to me) and 13 position players--

ERod, Sale, Eovaldi, Pivetta, Whitlock, Houck, Robles, Brasier, Richards (huge surprise), Perez, Ottavino, Davis, Taylor.

Vazquez, Plawecki, Schwarber, Dalbec, Arroyo, Bogaerts, Devers, Verdugo, Kike, Renfroe, JDM, Shaw, and Santana.
