Welcome to the fire Christian Arroyo. Tough place to try and get back into game speed. It would be a great achievement if the bottom third of this order could win it for us.

Most notable in the lineup Cora is sending out against Yankees starter Gerrit Cole is the presence of Kyle Schwarber in the leadoff spot, while serving as Martinez's replacement in the designated hitter position.

Schwarber had led off 27 times this season (the majority of appearances coming with the Nationals), hitting .292 with a 1.216 OPS and 17 home runs.

Also of note is Bobby Dalbec getting the start at first base against the righty. Dalbec is 0-for4 with two strikeouts vs. Cole.

Here is the Red Sox' lineup with Nathan Eovaldi on the mound:

Kyle Schwarber DH

Kiké Hernandez CF

Rafael Devers 3B

Xander Bogaert SS

Alex Verdugo LF

Hunter Renfroe RF

Kevin Plawecki C

Bobby Dalbec 1B

Christian Arroyo 2B

Half the people that wear Yankees apparel don’t even watch baseball. Ask them a baseball question and they get a weird look on their face like you’re invading their space.

Most Yankee fans, like one who posts in here, only are fans when they are winning. If not, they don't say anything. Front runners!

Does any of these guys have good stats against Cole? I believe Fred Schwaber is 3-17.

No Perez was expected. The third catcher indicates the desire to PH for our catcher(s). Not a bad idea.

They actually have four catchers counting Schwarber, in an emergency.

NY papers are writing that the pressure is on the Skanks as opposed the the Red Sox who just happen to be oh you know.. the HOST of the WC game with a nationwide fan base. The reasoning? Because the Yankees always win. This courtesy of the NY Post. Yes folks... “the Yankees always win.” Just in case you need a reminder of what entitlement means. Met fans actually have to deal with trash like this in the same city. Lol.

NY Post; a step down from the Enquirer.

The pressure is on the Yanks because they were expected to win the division and are now fighting for their lives in a WC game. The Sox weren't considered viable contenders.

I would give this post a definite YUP.

I don’t think any of the Yankees are feeling any pressure, because they were supposed to win the div, or the Red Sox are feeling any less pressure, because they wasn’t supposed to be here. Both teams are fighting for their lives.

On the good news front:

Lemahieu won't be playing tonight. He's on the 10 day IL.

DJ. being out is a loss for the Yankees, and it seemed he was always on base against the Sox.

I think the Yankees losing Lemahieu and the Red Sox losing JD is advantage Red Sox.

I won't comment on his fandom, but jacksonianmarch is a pretty good contributor to talksox.

Hope eovaldi has a better start than this last start against the Yankees. He has to match gerrit cole otherwise we stand no chance.

IMHO, the strongest part of the Yankem's team is their BP. They will make it very tough if the SOX get behind early. And now that Severino is back, the Yankem's BP is even stronger.

Cole has not been automatic this season. Hopefully we knock him out.

In his last 5 starts Cole's ERA is over 6 and BA against him is over .300. Interesting though is that his average velocity over his last 5 games has been 97.7, which is exactly the same as he's had all season.

The mystery of JD tripping over 2nd base has been solved. Turns out that before running to the OF, JD always steps on 2nd base. This time he slipped.

Good Lord.. I guess it was bound to happen eventually if he does it every time.

Tyler here:

Gonna have burgers tonight for the game.

Will report back later.

Getting some grilled Polish sausage.. some smoked kraut with onions, deli mustard. I’m good. My wife never protests.. lol.

Gotta get the food established before post season games. It’s a must.
