I would pinch hit for Vazquez, but also think he is good with the bullpen--better than Plawecki. That GIDP, however, really hurt, surrounded as it was by 3 hits.

He's hit the ball hard twice tonight. I'd be more in favor of pinch-hitting for wearisome JD.

Just saying what ERod has been this year. When he’s faced adversity, he has folded a lot.

That said, LaMahiu hit a pretty good pitch for that single.

So, the 3 wins against the Yanks this year were a mirage?

Meh. Singles by Renfroe and and Kike were harder hit. Ball was hit to LeMaHieu's right and he still could field it cleanly.

They hadn’t hit yet when I posted that. It was try at the time. If you’d said Rafi’s single was harder, okay.

Robles sure likes his slider, and I'm wondering why. It was his first pitch last night and scored a run on a WP. Tonight Judge hammered it, but it was too flat and Dugo grabbed it in from of the wall.

Correction. Two of those sliders made Stanton look silly on a K.

Tomorrow's another off day, so I kind of hope Robles pitches the 7th.

When you're the starter, you know what your team is doing. It's not about pitching a quality start. That does no good if you see zeros going up on your side of scoreboard.

He had a one run lead and gave up two. That's what mediocre pitchers do. He probably goes to bed pleased with himself if we lose 3-1.

Well, we have no idea what he thinks. But every athlete I know would, in individual sports, rather win than play well; and every athlete on a team sport, would rather play well than win.

Fine with me. He just K'd. Again. On a low and away slider. Again.

No question which is the better team and no question that the other team doesn't deserve to be in the PO's.

It’s a 2-1 game. But the Yankees do have superior pitching. Just have to hope Boone overmanages and uses somebody who doesn’t have it tonight.

So, Toronto and Seattle deserve to be?

Why?

Completely disagree given how this team is structured. They clearly have the hitting, so the lineup needs to deliver.

ERod giving up 2 runs in 5 innings is more than reasonable, especially with a bullpen that currently is well rested.

If JD doesn't opt out this year and of course he won't, my suggestion is make it look like an accident.

Even Swihart’s Ghost didn’t offer that sick a suggestion.

Take a step back and relax; it’s a game.

The standings stay otherwise, and, frankly, I think the standings rule on this point. I do, however, agree the Yankees are better. The Sox were better for three months, but now the Yankees clearly are because they have the pitching.

I don't give a crap about Toronto or Seattle. I just made a point about this overachieving SOX team, although they certainly didn't overachieve when it came to Covid protocols.

The Sox have scored over 5 runs a game this year. Now, in the biggest series of a very long season, the hitters are stinking it up against a pitching staff that give up an average of 4 runs a game.

So, no, I don't think this game is on ERod.

I'm not making excuses for ERod. He's had more than his share of piss poor starts, but there was a time, last year when it wasn't certain he'd ever pitch again. He missed a full season.

He came out of the gate pretty well, as the team won 5 of his first 6 starts (3.82 ERA), but then he hit a wall.

Starting June 5th, the team won 8 out of 9 starts, so can we drop the "never comes up big" rants. Those wins were against some very good teams:

@NYY

HOU

@ATL

@TBR

NYY

@OAK

@LAA (the only loss)

@NYY

NYY

Sure, he got lucky in some of those starts with big run support, but afterwards, he had some tough luck losses, too.

5.1IP 2 ER loss to TBR when the pen let up 6 runs.

6.0IP 1 ER @SEA in a 5-4 loss.

He gave us 6 shut out innings @ TBR on Sept 2nd, but there are some short memories, here. (4-0 win).We won his last start vs the Mets (4.1 IP 2 ER).

I'm not going to argue against anyone not wanting him back, next year or not wanting to offer him the QO, but he is not the guy to blame for this year's problems, especially against the Yanks.

Post of the game. Boone lends a helping hand to the Sox.
