It's makes a little more sense because T.Walker is a RH'r.

Hopefully, I'll be starting the game thread Friday and I will post whether the pitcher is RH or LH.

And if you sit JDM down, exactly how is he going to get his hitting stroke back?

If fans ran the team, Dalbec would have been jettisoned back when his OPS was .600.

Statistically, JDM has been trying to get his stroke back for all of August and September, during which his OPS has been under .800. Plus there is no right handed pitcher on this planet who does not know that JDM cannot hit a slider away.

Meanwhile, with just 10 games to play, including this one, you want to keep inserting JDM against righties even though Dalbec is hitting better. Plus tonight, to keep lefty bat Verdugo in LF and allow JDM to DH, you want Schwarber at 1b, the very position where he--last time he played there--mishandled an easy grounder that cost the Sox the game.

I do not doubt that Cora has his reasons for playing JDM, but right now I like mine better. Feel free to gloat when JDM wins the game tonight.

So JD should never play again? Is that the basic idea?

I will grant you this. It is definitely crunch time, and JDM has been a big factor in this lineup since 2016, when he made a huge difference. So it does kind of make sense for the manager to recognize that fact by "resting" Dalbec, the rookie and treating JDM like a real slugger. Indeed, tonight he is batting 5th.

Why not Schwarber at DH and Dalbec at 1b? JDM's OPS for September is .781 vs. Dalbec's 1.200+ and for August was .787 vs. Dalbec's 1.000+

I’m not sitting JD.

I’d make it Dalbec v Renfroe v RHPs.

We can now see why Schwarber is playing.

Honestly, I think you are missing a key point about Dalbec. Right now he is a plus on defense as well as at bat. Schwarber is the only other firstbaseman and stinks there. Based on the first inning, it would have made sense to bench Verdugo and play JDM or Schwarber in LF.

So now Sale walks the first batter in the 2d on four pitches. Nice.

Ron Darling in the Mets' booth stated that Sale's fastball has decreased in velocity and he no longer throws in the high 90's like he did when he was in Chicago. Darling, I guess, was unaware that he was also throwing in the high 90's as a Red Sox.

Sadly, living in Central NY, I get the all SOX/Mets games on the Mets' feed.

I think you missed the part where I said I’d play Dalbec- just not instead of JD.

I’d have sat Renfroe vs this righty.

JD is one of the best hitters in MLB. He can hit sliders. He’ll work through this mini slump.

No way I bench JD.

Dalbec should play everyday.

It was more like 95-96.

I think he’ll get back to that on a consistent basis by next year.

Dumb. Against a lefty hitter, Vazquez kept calling for fastballs until finally one was hit for a double.

This is why I don't like Vazquez and prefer Plawecki calling the shots.

Sucks?

Really?

I'd have started Dalbec over Renfroe and had Verdugo in RF and Schwarber in LF, but it's not a no-brainer choice.

BTW, Schwarber is 3 for 8 vs Walker with 3 HRs!

(Renfroe 0-5 and Dalbec 0-2)

It is Dalbec and another 8 right now. It is common sense. You don’t need stats to figure out.

When Sale came to Boston he was throwing with the same velocity he had in Chicago.

Yes, and he actually threw with higher velocity in 2018 than any other year. He hit high 90’s a lot that year but still averaged around 96-97.

Again, I wanted Dalbec starting. Schwarber, too.

You lost me at “Cora sucks.”

I think Schwarber’s contribution has been a little overrated since coming to Boston, and that Bobby D, and Renfroe have better stats than Schwaber since his arrival.Schwaber’s first home run in almost 3 weeks.
