Mets then Yankees...

Make or break! Either this RS team steps up and delivers the 93 wins I predicted at the beginning of the season, or ....

I'm praying the Sox play up to their potential and put this season away against both NY teams. It would be so sweet to sweep both teams and surge into the post-season with ahead of steam!

Predictions? This is it folks! Let's get this done!

I'm I being greedy hoping for the Yankees in the Wild Card? How sweet it would be to face and eliminate the Yankees in a winner take all Wild Card match!

Compared to last year, exceeding 90 wins this year is an incredible accomplishment!

Yes!

Also, look at the 84 win 2019 roster and compare.

Bloom & Cora are geniuses!

We could be swept by the Yankees and I would still like our chances....

After the sweep

Yankees 67 losses

Red Sox 68 losses

Yankees play Jays and Rays at best Yanks go 3-3.

Sox will play Orioles and Nationals. at worst we go 4-2.

Sox will be 10-9 vs Yankees and win the tie breaker for the second spot (Blue Jays will vault and host the WC game)

To me, this is the worst case scenario.

I’m glad for home field.

A sweep by either team would be radical and likely season-ending for the team swept, especially if the Yanks get swept.

The Rays May be resting players for that last series, so that might be an advantage.

The Jays and Yanks series is a godsend to the Sox. Knowing someone loses 2 games minimum gives us the opportunity to control our own destiny, assuming we don’t get swept by NY.

I’m going to say it again...

One game at a time, boys!

THIS is what haunts me, and keeps me from uncorking on Jacks' dogging on the Sox early & often.

Yes. He and everyone i know thought my 93 wins was insanity at the beginning, but I know I'd be right. Sure... with some wishful thinking, but I knew it would happen just the same.

STILL....

A ONE GAME winner take all series against the Yankees makes me dry-heave! I get sick thinking about it for a reason.

The good news!

WE ARE IN IT this year in a big way!!! & we control our own destiny.

Hate to say it, but THE BEST THING? IT is a one game series! The WORST THING? EPIC PAIN??? It is a one game series with the Yanks, and....

I can't even say it.

If Boston makes it I'd prefer facing the Yankees. Their hitting is not as dangerous as the Jay's lineup. The Jay's have put up a lot of runs against the Sox this year eventhough we won the season series 10-9

I’d rather face the Jays than Cole.

The best part would be the fact that the Yanks missed the playoffs.

I can't deny that after all the sh_t-talking from Yankee fans, that the Yankees finishing 4th in the AL East would not be pure gold! No doubt about it, the day the Yankees are knocked out of the Post Season would be a special day indeed.

Still... I can't deny that the RS beating the Yanks in a HIGH PROFILE 1 game series would feel awesome!

I propose a compromise? Let's knock the Yankees out by sweeping the last 9 games? Sweep the Yanks in our last series together... have the Jays surge past the Yankees concurrently... thus knocking the Yankees out of PS contention, while locking down our own "manifest destiny?" Revel in our glee while drinking Yankee tears???

Sounds pretty good :)

On the other hand... out of a profound sense of terrifying superstition, I want to be clear in saying that I am not dismissing the Yankees in any way! They are a great mlb team THIS YEAR. I simply want the rest of the ALE teams to slightly outshine this worthy nemesis. ;)

Let's roll!

I am at the point in the season where I will say nothing whatsoever of a predictive nature about the Sox or any other team. Play the games and see what happens. The only thing I will say is that I love how this team is managed by Bloom and Cora.

Exactly.

If we have learned anything from this season, it should be that no team or player can be projected to do such and such based on their most recent sample size- small or big. Almost every team and player have had several ups and downs all year long.

We look like the hottest team, now, but 10 days it was the jays and 20 days before that, it was the yanks.

I am pretty sure that if a tie in W-L records means one team goes home and the other doesn't, they have to play a one-game playoff. They only go to a tiebreaker if both teams are already in the playoffs.

That said, I agree with you that the Sox' chances are still pretty good, even if the Yankees sweep us. That said, I really don't want to get swept by the Yankees.

I think the Jays are the better team and a much tougher opponent, but I'd still rather play them in the WC game than the Yankees. I want the Yankees out.

That is correct. They would have to play one game against each other to get in. No tiebreaker.

From pitch 1, Eovaldi looked sharp. His pitches had stunning pop!

Though he looked so overpowering, It was a bad approach going with the fastball so much so early.

Credit to the Yankees for battling early and often.

We need a big win today.

This may all be a moot point, as the Sox and Yankees will face off in a one off, but we need to assert dominance if we hope to go far in the post-season?

This is a surprisingly good team, and it's now time for Cora to show his worth. I'm hoping he can get this crew to dig deep.

At this time of the year, facing teams that are relatively equal in talent, power, and depth, it WILL COME DOWN TO our pitching... our pitching is good, but not good enough to shut really good teams down. It is as simple as that. Great hitters are better than our really good pitchers.

Our bats better be ready! If so, we have a shot.

If not, it could be a very short post-season.

Either way, this team has been so much better than most here cried the would be.

Fun year, but now we need to roll. We need a big game today.

If the infield had been playing a normal double play alignment, Rizzo’s hit would have been a routine DP. I really don’t like severe overshifting with a man on first. I have seen too many DPs get lost even if they hit a ball at one of the fielders. Sometimes there is no one playing close enough to 2nd base to make a quick turn. Sometimes it is the third baseman making the turn or the relay and they don’t have the middle infielder skill to make the play. I am sure that the spray charts support the alignments they use, but just sayin that when the ball came off Rizzo’s bat, my 1st thought was DP.

If the Sox get swept at home they deserve to be at home come October. Two terrible losses thus far.. tough to stomach the lack of hitting and the spotty pitching.

It seems to me that whenever the Sox have a chance to put the nail in the Yankees' proverbial coffin, they can't get it done. I hate losing to the Yankees. Hate it.

Even if the Sox lose today (they better not), they will still have a 1 game lead for the second WC game (thank you Twins) with the scheduling advantage in our favor. I am confident that the Sox will make the playoffs. I just don't want the Yankees to make it too. I am hoping for the Jays to sweep them.

If New York sweeps tonight I totally expect them to confidently win their last two series and host the Wild Card game. ERod is a decent pitcher, but never seems to step up big in moments like these. What's the more likely scenario: he is lights out for seven shutout innings, or goes to full counts on every batter, puts the Sox in an early 3-0 hole, and is gone before the 5th?

Your defeatism is extreme. Perhaps you do this to ease the letdown- should it occur.

The team has gone 53-23 in ERod’s last 76 starts, including 18-11, this year.

I guess none of those 53 wins were in big moments as all his 23 losses were.

It sounds like you’ll be happy, if you are proven right about ERod, today.

I’m glad he’s pitching: we need a win. The Sox win when he pitches more than anyone else.

I share your feelings, but remember this: the Yanks have gotten to this point several times, this year, only to stumble and bumble their edge away.

They have major flaws just like we do, and time catches up with them just like us.

It seemed, to me, like we lost, yesterday, more than the Yankees won. Yes, they got the key hit, when it mattered, but we handed them the opportunity.

Maybe, they return the favor, tonight.

That is why some of us liked Dombrowski . Three straight A.L. East titles over the Yankees. ( And the Rays)

That was great! DD deserves all the props he got and still gets.

I think the nail would be in the coffin, already, had Bloom been given $20-30M more to spend over the winter and at the deadline.

Good take and I agree 100%. Let’s see what the Jays can do now. The Skanks are riding high at this point but baseball has a way of humbling you fast.
