Probably true. Of course, no one on talksox thought so either.

They need to get rid of a lot of dead weight on this team. Basically clean some house .

'Us competeing' is probably not sustainable.

You know what i mean. Anyway the only way this season would be less insufferable would be to see the Yankees miss the playoffs.

You don’t think the rays would love to face Red Sox pitching all year long?

Our pen which started the year performing decent maybe better than the rest of the team at that point is an utter disaster now. Maybe they were never that good and just looked better than they were relative to the rest of the team.

Given that Sale is still newly back from TJ I would still suggest that the rotation is Nate and pray for rain and sometimes Nate is iffy.

Rasmussen: 6 innings, 1 run, 7 hits.

ERod: 3.2 innings, 6 runs, 8 hits.

Hard to see how ERod outpitched Rasmussen.

Indeed, you can almost make a case that Feliz, 2.1 innings, 2 runs, outpitched ERod.

Sox split the series in the Trop last week, 2-2, and won the last two games, 4-0 and 3-2, which look like pretty good Sox pitching to me. ERod started in the 4-0 win. Sale in the 3-2 win.

I do agree, however, that the Rays are the much better team.

The real problem with this game is that many people in different formats have actually paid money to watch some total crap play by the Red Sox, featuring many pitchers you could go see in Worcester. This is a fraud

Last 3 games the SOX have given up 34 runs and counting.

Gee whiz, that will really mess up the advanced metrics and make this team look worse than they are, NOT.

I guess this is Peacock's game to win or lose.

Peacock's ERA is now 24.30. The Red Sox analytics department just sent this text to Cora: "If we give him a start and he goes six innings, we've determined he'll only give up 18.1 runs... but that's if you limit him to pitch six times through the order..." (18 runs + 18 outs + 18 LOB = 54 batters divided by a 9-man batting order = 6 times)

Damn, his ERA was only 7.68 at Columbus.

Peacock gives up 4 meaningless runs in a blowout and Cora leaves him in for the 8th (ok by me) to work on reducing his ERA . It's down around 22 now

What do you think, Vegas; should Cora keep Peacock in for the 9th?

They split. That’s the best they can do. Have they beaten a quality playoff team since the all star break?

They swept a 2 game series vs TOR then took 3 of 4 vs NYY near the end of July, but that’s it.

It would not have played out this way, but had Peacock not have put 4 runs of gas on the dumpster fire, the Sox theoretically would only be down 8-5 with 3 outs to go. Anytime you are within a 3 run HR or GS of the opponent , there is a slim chance you can come back. Theoretically that is also true of being down 100-0 . It's not over until the 27th out
