This team reminds me 2013. Geez we started without a closer until Kioji emerged and we all know how it ended up. That 2013 team was not fav by any means but day after day found ways to win games. This team has proven that they can do that with a bunch of subpar players.

Said that, yes, Bloom probably should have made a trade specially at pitching and here and there, but I want to give him the benefit of the doubt once Shwarber and Sale play; maybe and just maybe, the later (plus Houck) was his master plan. We'll se though.

That seems to have been the plan.

If it doesn't work, it won't mean we had no plan.

We also have plans for 2022 and beyond. Sometimes, they conflict with the 2021 plans, and tough choices have to be made.

Bloom made some tough choices and will live with those choices, as we will, too.

Guess I won’t panic yet. We are still in a playoff spot. Once we lost the second wildcard spot…… then the optimistic people need to get real.

So, 1 down, you give up?

On a team with so many come from behind wins, you don't see it in them to comeback in the standings, especially when you look at our last 14 games of the season?

One of the best teams in Sox history had stretches of the following:

3-11 in July

3-13 in September

All the 1978 Red Sox did was win 99 games (and yes, I lived through that nightmare, no need to remind me of what happened in game 163).

Right after that second streak, they went 12-2 to finish the year, including 8 straight to close the scheduled season and tie the Evil Empire. It took all 8 to make up a one game deficit as the Yankees refused to lose until the last day of the season.

That all being said, this team is not the 78 Sox in any way, shape or form. Devers and Bogaerts would be the only guys who would have played regularly for that team. Eovaldi and ERod would have been slotted in the 4-5 holes in the rotation.

JD Martinez would have been the starting DH. Kiké would be the starting 2B.

Are you booting Torrez or Lee to the pen?

This team will go .500 over that stretch.

I have no idea whether we were in a realistic position to land Scherzer or Berrios, considering all the parts/consequences —tax, payroll, future plans, prospects, etc. I simply have no idea. I don't even know whether he at least tried, but what I do know is that we had a legit chance to splash this year with some quality help.

Hopefully Sale, Houck and Shwarber are all the help we need to right the ship.

Seems like our rotation has settled down a bit. Our offense while not that great it was in the first half, at least they are getting on base. Thing right now is the BP, which had been our biggest strength in the first half.

Also, Arroyo and Schwarber will join. Sale will join. Houck will go deeper. Clutch hitting/pitching won't be this bad.

So yes, while I could sound positive, I think there's still objective reasons to think they can bounce back.

The upcoming schedule features a lot of very beatable teams. Our final week of the season does likewise. That alone should provide some hope. Too many folks give up too easily.

I was thinking Yaz was the primary DH that year, but per Baseball Reference, it was the immortal Bob Bailey, so yeah, JD would have been the DH.

Not sure Kike plays ahead of Remy. Close call there; definitely a different skill set.

Which to the pen? As I look at the numbers, neither. More than likely ERod isn't in the rotation, although with the Gerbil as manager, it's hard to say.

Still, my basic point was these ain't the 78 Sox.

The 2013 team never had that bad of a stretch. They were pretty consistent throughout the year

Why assume the team you see now will continue as is going forward?

(I'm not assuming they will or won't.)

It didn't work that way, 2-3 weeks ago.

They went 2-9 from May 3 to May 14.

It's not "as bad," but still pretty bad.

Yaz is super sub (1b/LF/DH)?

True. They responded by going 10-3 after that. Unless they do something similar this year you can stick a fork in it. Going 5-5 in the next 10 games isn't going to cut it. Probably would be in 4th place by then at the rate the Jay's and Yankees are winning

They will probably end up in 4th.
