Was he practicing at 1b when he injured it?

This would be interesting to know.

Let's hope we learn more about how this happened. If the Red Sox obfuscate on this matter, we can safely assume he did indeed injure himself practicing at 1b.

The early reports seem to say this won’t add significant time to his return. Of course, groin injuries are notoriously difficult to predict…

Such a mistake trading for a guy on the DL with a hamstring pull. The recovery can be weeks from what is projected. Groins are even more problematic. Maybe we will see him hit some Home Runs in meaningless September games.

A groin strain won’t add significant time to his return? That makes absolutely not sense at all

Technically they say he “felt tightness” in his groin. I would estimate his return date to be some time between next Wednesday and shortly before the earth crashes into the sun…

Contract

They dude is riding his June performance to a mega deal from some confused GM, if he returns to action this year, he is only taking money from his pocket!

Schwarber strikes me as a guy who wants to play. He missed all of 2016 except for the World Series, where he had a .971 OPS in 5 games.

I don't mean to pry, but whose groin did Schwarber tug?

You don't have to pry any of us because we'll all be pulling our own groins soon, watching (or not watching) the Sox tank show while awaiting all the offseason improvements.

No question that deadline day was a disappointment. We just have to hope that having Sale and Houck in the rotation will give this club the boost that it sorely needs .

...and to a lesser extent, Arroyo, Brasier and maybe some others.

Now wait. THe evidence you cite that he wants to play is that one year, he played a total of 5 out of (let me think), around 180 games. Who wouldn't want a job like that??

I am sure his agent is reminding him daily of all the money he is going to get by sitting out the rest of this year!

Will he listen to the agent or will his competitive spirit win out?

If his agent is telling him anything, it’s about getting back out there. A lot of teams shy away from injury-prove players.

I'm not so sure that the next month and a half will dramatically change his next contract. Maybe the agent is more likely to say "stay out until you're 100% so that you don't reinjure yourself." What's worse: him waiting an extra week and coming back at 100% or him coming back too early and not being ready to go?

I could see something like that..

Regardless, the Sox need his bat in the lineup, but I'd rather him come back at 100% than get reinjured. It sucks that this team is taking on water, but they were stuck with limited options when they decided to stay under the lux tax.

But is 75% of Schwarber better than pinch-hitting Marwin against 101 mph in the 9th?

Seeing that a 75% Schwarber would be more likely to reinjure himself, yes.
