If Richards stumbles badly tonight and has to be pulled early. Houck could be the long reliever, and the other four starters would simply get regular rest and not an extra day's rest. Long reliever Valdez pitched 2.1 innings last night. However, Whitlock last pitched 4 days ago (July 23) and just 1 inning.

I doubt Houck will be used tonight because Cora and Bloom both need to know how effective he is as a starter because they must have doubts about Richards, Perez, and ERod.

Houck is tomorrow night's listed starter.

Throw in EO and that's a damn good 1-2-3.

Like you and almost everyone on talksox, I think Sale will be great when he returns next month. But he ain't great yet.

I know. But he is the 6th starter, so using him tonight would simply bring up the other four (ERod, Eovaldi, Perez, and Pivetta) on their normal rest.

I wonder how important it was to Sale to have a teammate who has had TJ surgery and is better than ever.

Looks like we might have a double-header tomorrow because of this weather.

Two 7 inning games; just another wonderful new rule. Hopefully the fans will get a 23% discount on the price of their tickets.

My guess, and it's only that, is they would really like to give E-Rod the extra day after the migraine.

Hell, the SOX lately don't even get going until the 8th inning.

Yeah, that's quite the gouge on those split admission doubleheaders. I wonder if any teams are giving discounts or something for those?

Not that easy. All have between game activities they go through, including when they thrown in between starts. Maybe they throw two days before a start (I don’t know, just tossing a hypothetical out). Houck would have thrown yesterday in prep for tomorrow and Thursday’s starter throws today. Using Houck in relief tonight messes that up completely. Even if it’s 3 days before a start, you are still upsetting that schedule.

Houck is prepped for tomorrow, no way you use him tonight.

That’s a rhetorical question, right?

Damn delay.

If you saw the skies here right now (and the radar), you would understand. It sucks but this weather sucks even more

It's like paying to see a full movie and you're not allowed to watch the last half-hour. F you, MLB.

It works in the minors because they don’t have split admission; 14 innings for the price of 9.

Of all the new rules, 7 inning games will be the first to go.

The extra inning rule is okay IMO in that it eliminates those marathon games that take a toll for several days. I’d modify it and play normal for 2-3 innings and then have it kick in for the 12th or 13th. I’d probably go for 3 old style extras to potentially allow one full trip through the batting order. Seems to me that would be a decent blend.

I could agree having it kick in after the 12th. Very good idea, Illinois.

I agree with this totally. I also would like the DH in both leagues and eliminate the shift by requiring 2 infielders on each side of second base.

Probably right.

JBJ hitting .177 with .254 OBP and .294 SLG. Sox definitely made the right call letting him go.

Yup.

Bloom has a clue.

Good news: The Rays lost.

Bad news: The Yankems won.

I kinda hope the Yanks sweep, do some heavy buying then suck again.

A large group of interns from my office are going to the game tonight. Feeling a little upset that they didn't at least invite me. Maybe I'll have to adjust my mojo to make it rain during the game, but only where they are sitting, and to create an invisible forcefield that prevents balls from going their way.

Your fault.
