Cannot believe the yanks took the past two games. This team has come up small at all times this year and they could easily have rolled over vs Eovaldi and tonight. Thing is, every time this Yankee team seems to right the ship, they falter hard

FWIW earlier this month the Yankees won a series in Seattle, the only series loss the Mariners have suffered in their last nine series.

Just looking over the last 3 games. If Cora turns to Whitlock in game 2 instead of Sawamura, the Red Sox probably win game two and walk out of the Bronx winning 2 out of 3. Instead, Cora turned to Whitlock in game 3.

What makes you confident we win game 2 with our hitting in this series?

Best case scenario in game 2 was a suspended game completed yesterday.

Complete 20-30 hindsight. It would have been a crapshoot as to how effective any pitcher may or may not have been in that downpour.

3 straight series losses. A little concerning. Just part of the ebbs and flows I suppose. It'll be interesting to see how this 6 man rotation works out until Sale comes back.

3 straight series losses is concerning. Also concerning is that our Pythagorean record is only 52-42. Our weaknesses may be getting exposed a little lately.

Life has gotten in the way of my Sox time this year and unfortunately Saturday's and Sunday's games are the first I've seen this year in their entirety. A few observations:

- It's easy to decide that the Sox can't hit when they face one of the best pitchers in the league. Maybe it's not us, it's them. It's the nature of baseball.

- The game threads are just as I remembered them, and that's not a good thing.

- While I plead guilty to having Red Sox colored glasses on, last night's broadcast reminded me of why I hate those ESPN games. I used to think it was ARod's fault that the Yankees were so revered on those broadcasts but it's not. All of those ESPN announcers have a sickening, almost perverted man-crush on the Yankees. Yuk.

If I posted in the gamethreads, they'd be much more enjoyable.

They’re better than that. I firmly believe this is still a playoff team. Gotta just play better.

Agreed.

They may not be as good as we thought, when we were riding high, but we should make the playoffs and even win the division. If you look at the other teams, they have as many or more black holes or weaknesses as we do.

It's our run differential that's worrisome. The Jays and Rays both have better differentials.

I still feel we are better than both teams. They need to show up here against Toronto.

We certainly aren't way better, and some numbers, like these, show they may even be better, but I still like our roster over theirs.

It's the CWS and Astros that look better, on paper.

I like our grit, though, and hat's not captured by stats or data.

Game was tied when Sawamura came in. Given how abysmal the Sox hitting has been in the last 2 games (Sat and Sun nights), I think it's a big stretch to assume they were going to score again Saturday night or whenever the game was continued.

Maybe not such a big stretch.

I think we've come back a couple times, already, this year, and the Yankee pen is not what it was advertised as being.

I always keep the sound off for espn and fox broadcasts of Sox games. Espn Hqs has been in Bristol, CT for 40 years, plus the Yankees have bigger marquee value than the Sox despite the fact that Sox have won 4 WS, 2002 to the present, and the Yankees have won 1. ESPN also loves the Duke basketball team and Coach Krzyzewski.

Saturday night game was played in steady rain which by the 5th inning had produced puddles. Starters Cole and Eovaldi handled the rain pretty well--each giving up 1 run, but Cole also pitched the 6th inning when he struck out 3, but also gave up 2 walks and a single. Sawamura then pitched the bottom of the 6th when the rain was at its hardest and gave up 2 dingers despite his ERA of 2.43 and going against a suspect Yankees lineup.

But let's assume Whitlock pitched the 6th and came through unscathed. It is a certainty the game would have been called after 6 as in fact it was.

The logical time to finish game 2 would have been yesterday when the Yankees hitting and pitching dominated the Sox. Indeed, in games 2 and 3 of this series, the Yankees hit 4 dingers and scored 12 runs to the Sox 0 dingers and 2 runs.

So, yes, I think it's a huge stretch to claim the Sox win game 2 if Whitlock pitches the 6th--when the game was already tied--instead of Sawamura.

I wasn't claiming we'd win.

I claimed it wasn't a big stretch to think we might have won.
