I’ve said it before. Hernández is a myth.

His ERA was not sustainable. All his run prevention estimators are above 4.

This team played down to the Yankees this weekend. You still have to play the game. Gotta stop the bleeding. 3-6 in their last 9 games.

Rafi is young. Puts too much pressure on himself. Expects to pick up the team constantly and that is a lotta' pressure to put on yourself over 162.

This game is not about physical strength or muscles or even conditioning as much as it is about dealing with the pressure of playing in the field, hitting, base running (which none of them can do any more) and doing it in multiple situations which you have to determine before a play has to be made. Making it up on the fly won't work in this game.

It is certainly the hardest mentally of the team sports. Golf is likely the hardest mentally over all. Professional golfers are dealing with mental strain all the time and there is nobody to pick them up. Watch a pro golf tournament in person sone time and watch how they shape the ball around the course. WE are not playing the same game as they are. Soccer is likely the toughest game physically. Tennis is tough mentally in that you know you have to dominate your opponent or your opponent will dominate you and tennis players break down a good deal. So they are often out there gimping around.

I hear you but honestly think baseball is unique in the centrality of the confrontation between pitcher and hitter. All else--baserunning, defense, etc--are secondary to that. The Sox lineup has simply stopped hitting. Last night the Sox pitching, except for Sawamura, was pretty good, but Cole owned our hitters, especially JDM and Devers who both struck out too often and in key situations.

Next stop, Buffalo and the Jays, who have won 4 straight.

Well they better snap out of it or they could be in 3rd place in a hurry.

Bloom needs to get a real 1B with a consistent bat.

Perhaps. But what about the other 8 bats in the lineup? Indeed, Dalbec didn't start this game. Meanwhile, Hernandez, Verdugo, Devers, Renfroe, Duran and Arroyo are all hitless.

And let's not forget that a decimated Yankees lineup scored 3 runs last night and another 5 tonight--and hit 2 dingers both nights.

And the confrontation between pitcher and hitter IS NOT a massive mental game?????

You might think the rest is secondary until its your responsibility to make plays....all kinds of plays. It does not seem secondary when you have taken a ground ball off your nose then booted the ball halfway around the ballpark or threw to the wrong base or ace overthrown the cutoff man at the worst possible time. Those two throwing mistakes will really make you feel stupid It seems very real, very present and you feel like you are standing there with your pants around your ankles.

Now I have seen some guys playing MLB now that I do not even consider baseball players. They are simply hitters and the way MLB has screwed this game up, they actually have a shot at hanging around. They stumble around in the field and on the bases. They don't even seem interested in playing. They are only interested in hitting. This is a fairly new phenomenon. But I know who they are. Interested to see how long they hang around on an MLB roster even given how the game is played today.

Base running is no longer treated as important. I will give you that. It is still frustrating to see guys who appear not to know the golden rule of base running. You cannot outrun the thrown baseball. I don't care how fast you are or how fast you think you are. You can't outrun the thrown baseball. You can run on some guy with a rag arm throwing lollypops around the field, but that's it.

If they were still playing this game the way it was intended to be played "the rest" would not even seem secondary.

Get it out of your system Sox. You have totally stunk up the place since the rain starting falling in earnest last night.

Look on Cora’s face says it All he’s getting hung out to dry by bloom

I think Cora is disappointed with his team’s play a lot more. They know these games count. It’s go time!!!!

Sox are lucky they are not playing like this at home in front of a big Fenway crowd. They think THIS is a tough crowd to play in front of. Play like this in front of a packed house in Fenway and watch what happens.
