I was referring to their spots in the current rotation. Richards is 3, Pivetta is 4, and Perez is 5.

Then I agree with you completely. If you leave ERod out, I'm definitely in.

Heck, forget the sarcasm. I like the 3 guys you named, and Pivetta and Perez have stood tall in this series. Even including ERod, the Sox rotation is a ton better this year than we had an right to expect.

A note to all you ERod fans. Today we are watching another Sox lefty going up against the same lineup ERod faced. Only Perez doesn't throw as hard as ERod. What he does have is a better array of pitches and better command of them. And, unlike ERod, he is not afraid to throw strikes and even throw to contact.

Meh. He's been giving both pitchers breaks.

Still It doesn’t mean he didn’t kill us lol

The strike zone is the strike zone. Plain and simple.

Needed this win today. Hopefully they show up for the Yankees series and win it. We need a series win against a good team.

Yep...67 pitches after 7 innings. Once a pitcher establishes strike zone command, hitters will not wait to get a walk. Pretty good for our #5.

Perez has now thrown 67 pitches in 7 innings--shutout innings at that. I feel very safe in saying the ERod has never done that in his MLB career.

Not sure why all this hatred on ERod Max. Obviously he is not oks.

He missed 2020 and had heart and Covid problems man. Give him a break. He pitched very solid in 2018 and 2019.

Said that I do not consider myself Erods fan but sometimes we have to understand the collaterals.

You're picking on the guy who's struggling.

I find it ridiculous that cora keeps putting eduardo rodriguez out there. He sucks! He deserves to be send down to the minors. Scheduled to start on Saturday. 🤦*♂️

A fair point, but also where we part company.

Baseball to me is quintessentially a human endeavor. That means a pitch is whatever the umpire says it is and should not be defined by those graphics we see on the screen.

Those graphics are misleadingly and inhumanly accurate. No hitter--not one of the 800 or so MLB players we see each year--can see as well as those graphics. Nor, I would submit, can the catcher, even though he has the best vantage point of anyone.

Umpires have been an essential part of the game from the beginning, and they do make mistakes. But, given how difficult it is to hit a baseball and/or to hit the right spot in or near the strike zone, umpires are way more perfect than any hitter or pitcher in the game.

I want robo-umps to the same degree I want robo-players.

Can I call a friend?

Perez was maybe the only offseason move I was in favor of that has worked out... well, the Sox also did well that Bloom didn't listen to me to sign Ozuna, Rosario, Odorizzi, Springer, Yates, and an actual centerfielder (albeit a cheap one).

Note to OB: fans could care less about relievers' ERAs. Where are the stranded runners stats???

Good point. I would say though that a closer's ERA is an important stat, only because closers usually start an inning.

When was the last time a Red Sox pitcher going all the way?

I believe the year was 1904. Cy Young with a no hitter against Philly

In actuality I have no idea. Feels like forever lol
