Let it rain let it rain let it rain

"What a glorious feeling, I'm happy again, I'm laughing at clouds . . . let the stormy clouds chase everyone from the place, come on with the rain, I've a smile on my face."

Pivetta gets a "complete" game.

Sox are 26-3 when they score 4 or more runs this year according to the WEEI stats guys. Pretty interesting factoid.

Would moonslav care to comment?

I posted those numbers a few days ago. They must have read my post.

The interesting factoid is this:

We are 5-0 when we score 4 runs, but 1-2 when we score 5 and 5-1 when scoring 6 runs.

You might think 4 is our lucky number, but then we see this:

When we allow 4 runs, we are 3-5, but we are 2-2 when allowing 5 and 2-1 when allowing 7!

If we win we’re tied with the Rays and up 1 on the Yanks.

Edit... Rays won in 10. We’d still be down 1/2.

Bye bye, Cindy Crosby. BRUINS will have home ice advantage against the pesky Isles.

Can’t overlook them. That’s for sure. I hate that Tampa bay is still alive. Lol

June is around the corner and we are still at the top.

Especially since Tampa won. We need this win.

I read somewhere that the game will be played at midnight. Is this a joke? Seriously?

Has this happened before? I think it’s a joke that the game is being played. It should have been called off period!

For those who went to bed early:

Taylor started the 7th; hit the first batter (Acuna, well the umps said he got hit), got Freeman on a deep fly to left and then induced Albies to tap a soft grounder to second base that the Sox just missed turning into a DP; Cora brought in Ottavino, who got a foul pop by Riley to end the inning and then set the Braves down in order in the 8th.

Sox scored 2 unearned runs in the bottom of the 8th on a walk to Bogaerts, a ground rule double by Renfroe, an error and a SF by Vazquez.

With the 5 run lead, Andriese started the 9th, got one out and then surrendered a bomb to Contreras. After a single by Acuna, Cora brought in Barnes who got Freeman to hit into a game ending DP.

Final 9-5

This to me was a really good Sox game. They got behind early. Eventually caught up to Smyly and passed the Braves. Had to overcome a rain delay. Sox played a clean game unlike a few of the error filled fiascos and came out with a win. Bats played big for the Sox tonight and I remain convinced that the bats will have to play big in most games for this team to win. Bridge to Barnes still looks like it could use some Biden Infrastructure bucks...pretty dilapidated. Overall not that impressed with the pitching so far.

Pitching has to improve IMO. Richards has been a pleasant surprise once he got on track. That Richards has been as noticeable as a contributor to the staff ain't very encouraging though. I am not convinced you can depend on this much firepower from the batters box throughout the course of a season and its looking more and more like they are going to have to.

Playing time lasted 2.53, which is quick. Rain delay lasted 2:54, which means the game ended around 1 am, which is insanity. MLB or the umps must have decided to resume because both teams have today off.

The WEEI guys said throughout the 2 game series the Braves are a good team and likely to win the NL East.

Sox remain .5 behind the Rays, the Yankees are 1.5 behind the Rays, and the Jays 5 games back.

Red Sox still have the MLB lead in runs scored and team OPS, but the Rays are 7 runs back (and have played 1 more game than the Sox).

Yankees have the lowest ERA in the AL, the Rays the 3d best, and the Sox the 6th best.

All three teams are road warriors so far: Sox 16-7, Rays 19-7, and Yankees 14-10. Rays are 12-13 at home, Sox 14-13, and Yankees 14-10.

AL East has the best W-L record in MLB, but the NL West is gaining on them. The Rockies and Diamondbacks stink, but the Padres are at .640 and the Dodgers and Giants at .612.

I think Kimmi has said she goes by run differential. That makes sense in the NL: Padres are +80, Dodgers +76, and Giants +56.

But in the AL the leaders are White Sox (28-20) with +69, the Astros (27-22) with +55, and then the two best AL teams (Rays, 31-20; Sox 30-20) with + 50 and +49. Then Toronto, 3.5 games behind the Yankees, at +31. Finally, the Yankees (28-20) at +21.

I was sure the game would be called and went to bed.

Those are the first innings I’ve missed watching in a long long time.

I'm willing to bet that it was the Braves who wanted to come back out and play, consider that a) they have today off B) only have to go to New York for their next series against the Mets c) led for the vast majority of the game before the delay and d) are off to a slow start and need any win they can get in a disappointing NL East

Our pitching is about #10 out of 30 in MLB. That's about as good as you can expect with our staff.

I went to bed unsure if the game was over or not. Over the years they have resumed play after some crazy long delays at Fenway!

Now you're dissing my hometown hero.

Sid has 3 rings, that's not so bad.

I should add, Brad Marchand was born even closer to me than Crosby was.

One of those games where people who say "I watched every pitch last year" make me raise my eyebrows a little.

Can't argue with those points.

If I'm going to stay up late, it's not going to be for a dreadful baseball game stuck in a delay.

You and me both.
