E Rod is a f***ing joke this year. Don’t quote this message if you’re going to defend him. Don’t wanna hear it.

Don't read this. ERA not good. W/L: 5-2; 48 Ks, 8 BB. Why is that a "f-ing joke"?

Check out his last four starts before this game. The guy has been very hittable. He’s doo-doo.

You’re right. My bad. He’s been absolutely terrific. 13 runs in 13 innings is high caliber.

No one but you used the term "high caliber". I was just wondering how 5-2 is what you described it as. (But then, for some reason, neither of us paid the slightest attention to the other one's demand that we not read each others posts).

Usually when a pitcher has a good to great W/L record, his other pitching stats follow decently in line also. E-rod has been the exception to this rule most of his career.

His record is good because his team is good, but he just seems to be getting worse. No command or control and blows leads early and often. He is showing no signs of shaking this either. I get it, he missed all last year but how long do you give a guy?

Here’s my question. When Sale comes back.... who goes to the bullpen? E Rod is by far our worst pitcher right now.

Agreed completely

Eduardo Rodgriguez (L) vs. Zach Wheeler ®

Definite edge to the Phillies, but last night we had the pitching edge, a better record, etc, and almost didn't win, even with Barned in for the save. Baseball is like that.

You gotta play the games, which is why guys like us have become addicts. OK, maybe not addicts. Maybe connoiseurs of the fine art of our national pastime and the only sport that Ken Burns thought worthy of 9 segments.

So today allow me to introduce you to a somewhat different flavor in lineups, one with piquancy rather than robustness:

Kike Hernandez 2B

Danny Santana CF

Rafael Devers 3B

Christian Vazquez C

Hunter Renfroe RF

Marwin Gonzalez SS

Bobby Dalbec 1B

Franch Cordero LF

Eduardo Rodriguez P

No Bogie, no JD Martinez.

Day game after a night game. and a whole lot of baseball ahead of us.

Sometimes I don't understand Cora's motivations. This lineup is gift wrapping the final game of the series with a day off tomorrow. A game in May means as much as a game in September.

Thank goodness he's not coaching the BRUINS. He'd be giving Rask and Bergeron a day of rest tonight.GO BRUINS!

This would have been a big one to win, get to 30 wins before end of May, beat a top pitcher, sweep another NL team, and go into the day off on a roll, especially while sitting Verdugo, Bogaerts and Martinez. Right now they look asleep at the bat , and Erod's always one pitch away from more blow up. Another case where the Red Sox starter doesn't seem fully prepared for the first inning

Agreed. We don’t like to sweep teams that’s for sure.

As diehard fanatical baseball followers, we probably need to remember that sometimes, we care more about every single game than some of the guys who work in the uniforms at their jobs every single day... especially, on Getaway Days (with a day off tomorrow).

While a comeback today would be a rare treat, i'll still take the results to date , especially after the opening series debacle with the O's. April and May have been a most welcome outcome. Now finish the month in first , and get the participation trophy

This offense looks dead in the water today. Why is this team taking days off in a strong division where you have two teams right now that are streaking. Don’t understand cora with a day off tomorrow.

True. I’m trying to control my passion lol. Gets the best of me.

Other than the fact Sawamura may not yet be ready to pitch, this should be Erod's last batter today, especially if he doesn't get him out

We will know about this team pretty soon when they have the stros followed by the yankees.

OK, I got it. Games in May are as important as games in September.

Now I have one for you. Have you noticed that MLB teams play 162 games, 6 games a week for six months and that, even though, certainly, every game is important, it is probably not smart to play everybody every game or even close to it?

Also, look at the pitchers, who outnumber the position players, but play in at most half the games, and if they do play in that many, they only pitch 1 inning per game.

And this. I assume you too have watched just about every inning of every game this year. My very strong impression so far is that good pitching beats good hitting every time, and today the Sox are going against one of the best in MLB. He pitches the most innings per start in MLB and still has the 12th best ERA, the 7th most K's, etc..

When even our best hitters--JDM, Bogie, Devers, maybe Verdugo--go against really good pitching, they are just as overwhelmed as the rest of the lineup. As someone else on talksox said, the difference between great hitters and so-so hitters is their consistency in hitting bad pitches, which are usually thrown by weak pitchers.

World of difference in Erod's pitches when he finishes his move home and when he just slings it high or wide. Nice 4 innings today , assace

You should see us old fossils at Little League games... where every coach cares way more about baseball than their own kids (who just want to be kids, before getting full rides to D1 colleges, and then signing with pro teams for kajillions so their parents can retire early).

If Cora wants to give JDM and Bogie a 2 day break, I'm for it. It's a very long season, 6 games a week for six straight months.

With the 2 days off this week, perhaps Cora can realign the starting staff. E-rod has qualified as a #5. He should also miss his next start.

Good point, and maybe he just needs a rest.
