Good news today: when houck has his control, he throws a nice ball.

Bad news today: devers defense is weak and the rest of the offense never left Florida!

Well said.

MVP 78 I agree with you but I also agree with Thunder..... this is just going to be an inconsistent team across the board.

Once the offense gets going, this team will be better.

Absolutely! I definitely expect them to average over 1 run a game. Take it to the BANK!

OMG!

Because of blackout restrictions on Extra Innings, I am stuck with watching O's games on the local cable channel. Thankfully, Thorne is no longer a part of that team. However, I think whoever that is that took Thorne's place is awful. Terrible.

I can't wait to have a NESN broadcast.

NESN sucks.

Eck is good. That's it.

I'm getting major 2019 vibes with this start

The thing is, that '19 club had 84 wins -- close to the average predictions of this '21 version. We should just remember that as much as the '19 Sox were a letdown -- mainly because of their record-breaking previous year -- they still had four regulars over .900 OPS, plus a 19-game winner in the rotation.

86 wins is a success for this team.

Nobody ever agrees with me, so I would get your brain checked lol

If anyone thinks we are a wild card team after these last two performances, they need their brain examined lol.

True. For the record, I didn't think we were a wild card team coming into the season. That doesn't mean I wasn't excited for the season though. My senior year baseball team in HS went 2-20. I learned long ago not to fixate in the result, as long as you have fun along the way. These first two days I've had fun being a fan

It's nice seeing baseball, again- weird with just 10% fans. (I think it could be 20-25% and still keep groups apart.)

I thought, if everything goes right, we could compete for a WC slot. We still can, but what are the odds everything goes right?

On that note, it will be interesting to see if, as the summer goes on, some last place teams continue to limit their capacity so that they can claim that they have sellouts. Take the Marlins, for example. That place is never more than half full to begin with.

No two games should ever change someone's mind, unless it's like game 6 & 7 of a playoff series.

Oh I completely agree with this, but I don’t think we are a wild card team or even close to that. These two games just cement that fact in my mind. I hope we compete and I hope the steam proves me wrong, I just think we have a ways to go before we are competitive again

I didn't mean my comment to be directed at you.

I think we both have similar views on the level of the 2021 Sox team. I have no issues with anyone who felt or feel like we cannot make the playoffs. I only felt like we could compete with near perfect health and almost everything going right. There's not much difference in our outlooks.

I was directing that comment towards anyone who changed their views based on these two games or are suggesting a radical realignment of the team based on Devers looking bad on defense in two games (not that he wasn't bad before).

Oh fair enough. My mistake. Yes I agree, and there is nothing wrong with that. It’s Awesome when people believe in their team. Hell I thought Indy could win the SB last year..... how wrong I was lol. I just think the Sox have a very big question mark at pitching, and the offense isn’t good enough to carry the team. I would love nothing more than to see this team make playoffs.... I just don’t know how we will compete with the Rays and the Yankees. Hell even the Jays are a good team and made playoffs last year. This division is too tough to rely on all offense to make the playoffs. And with that said..... I’m not sure our offense is Even going to be that good. I think we will be ok, but not good enough without solid pitching (granted we have had decent pitching through two games)

You faced a team that shouldn’t win 50 games. You’ve no clue if the pitching has been good or not. They’re a AA offense

They might not be the best offense in the league, but they are still a major league offense that should be able to hit weak pitching.

I watched the pitching. Our pitchers pitched well during both games.

Obviously, 2 games is not going to tell you anything about the season, but for these two games, pitching was not the problem.

I’m gonna enjoy this year a lot

As will I.

Just so you don't miss me too much over the next few days, I am on spring break and going out of town Monday - Wednesday. Don't worry, I'll be back on Thursday. ;)

I would rather be optimistic and wrong than pessimistic and right.

And please don't respond with any BS about being 'realistic'. LOL

I am grounded in reality.

They’re a major league offense in name only. Beyond Santander and Mancini, nobody else on that team makes another team’s starting lineup, heck maybe not even another team

If Mountcastle was in your org, you’d be ready to retire his number.

Alex Verdugo would be the first player to start each of the Red Sox’ first three games of a season, at three different positions.

Friday – CF

Saturday – RF

Sunday – LF

Per Fangraphs, the Os are projected to score 4.73 runs/game, good for 21st in baseball. They are not the strongest offense, but they far from being the AA offense that you claim they are. They are certainly capable of hitting, as we saw today.
