Yanks looking to move Voit. I guess plan is to get a SS either at deadline or in FA and shunt Gleyber to 2b and DJ to 1b thereby improving defense. Corey Seager will likely be that SS, IMO, assuming Dodgers don’t break the bank

Richards & Potts and $2M for Voit.

5 games over .500, 2 back in the L column of a playoff spot. Not the biggest fan of buying, but the cost to buy wasn't prohibitive.

We gave up 3 middle infield prospects in Duran (#6), Smith (#8), and Hauver (#22). But we kept #2 Volpe and #3 Peraza while drafting #7 Sweeney. Duran was Rule V eligible after this season, Smith after next. They dealt Otto (#20), but he would have been rule 5 eligible and has 7 RHP ahead of him on the top 30 prospect list. They dealt Vizcaino (#12) but have 5 RHP ahead of him and he was Rule V eligible too. The only two players not required to hit the 40 man by end of 2022 were Alcantara and Hauver. IMO, the only two guys I really didn't want to part with were Duran and Alcantara.

In what the Yanks got, they got lefty power and veteran presences in spots they lacked any sort of production. Yanks 1b's this year were tremendously bad. In Rizzo they get a steady presence who has sneakily been nails after the ASB dating back to 2018 and 2019 while showing progress the last 2 weeks with an OPS over .900. If he can come out of his slumber, he will elongate a lineup that's been only a few batters long.

Gallo adds another all or nothing hitter, although one that is walking at a career best clip. He will also benefit from being in a better lineup. Gallo hasn't had anyone to protect him in Texas, now he could be protecting Judge. Add in the short porch and this pull hitter could really do some damage.

After the trade, the lineup looks as such

1. Lemahieu 2B

2. Judge RF

3. Gallo LF

4. Stanton DH

5. Rizzo 1B

6. Sanchez C

7. Urshela 3B

8. Torres SS

9. Florial/Allen/Gardner CF

Voit may return and if so could spell someone for injury purposes or platoon with Rizzo against southpaws. Severino is going out on a rehab assignment. Kluber is throwing bullpens. I get why the Yanks haven't done more than kick the tires on the starters. Yanks pen has been atrocious of late and no relief in sight, actually they removed Cessa and brought up Abreu who got his s*** lit up today. I still don't think this is a team that will make the playoffs and make noise, but crazier things have happened. And if they do, Cashman must NEVER make the Yankees a righty dominant team again

That’s a bad deal for you. I’ve posted before about my concerns over Voit’s knee

Potts wont even be on our 40 man, next year.

After these Yankee trades and the Sox draft, our farm may have passed yours, today.

Disagree. Yanks are stronger at the top still with Dominguez, Volpe, Peraza, Gil and Medina. Florial, Garcia and Schmidt, their former top 100s, are still in system. The deeper minors are still flush. Yanks moved on from areas where they had redundancies.

You weakened your farm considerably (and for what?). You are spinning this with the redundancy talk.

I prefer future top 100's than former.

Plus, I said "may have" not "have."

Marlins and Orioles are next for the Yankees. We have to keep winning

We need our offense come alive and step up. Our SP has been inconsistent as hell. It's stacked with No.4s and 5s. We need badly a No. 1 type of pitcher at the top of the rotation. Hopefully somehow we get Berrios.

JD is dead cold. Xander and Devers are not 100% healthy. Renfroe and Duran are struggling. Chavis and Cordero are useless. Vazquez's bat is mediocre, so I would go with Kevin P. in a regular basis until his bat cools off. Also, I'd call Muñoz and Arauz for Cordero and Chavis. We need Arroyo back badly.

NY, TB and even TOR will reduce the L column very fast within the next week if our bats don't wake up/get healthy.

" and for what" seems a little disingenuous. The Yankees had a serious deficiency in left handed power , especially when they play at the stadium. Gallo and Rizzo correct that, as well as providing quality defense.

Cashman is out of my doghouse for now. Major sin starting this campaign with status quo from last year, but he rectified a lot of that with the deadline moves and didn’t have to deal his top prospects to do it. Plus, he added a lot of offensive talent in the draft that should have some trade value next year or the year after.

Lots of people panned his draft because of the rankings of the players. But every offensive player selected in the top 10 is a bat first player. If you look at what we dealt to get the guys we did at the deadline, we dealt guys who were hitting the s*** out of the ball. Teams inflate player values when they’re smashing minor league pitching. If the Yanks plan to use their talent on the trade market, it behooves them to draft guys with skill sets that other teams want. In this day and age it’s pitching and offense. We got a lot of offense in our top 5 picks

The fans will ultimately judge Cashman on how the team finishes this year.

Very true. I didn’t want to sell the farm to upgrade the team. But he definitely upgraded it while keeping our top 5 and 9 of our top 11. Also, the Taillon trade is suddenly not looking terrible either.

This is one of the pitchers the Pirates received for James Taillon:

Starting pitcher Roansy Contreras, 21 years old, in AA this year: 46 IP, 11 walks, 65 strikeouts, 0.91 WHIP, 2.35 ERA.

His fastball can reach 97 mph and he has an excellent changeup.

Taillon is a free agent after 2022, along with Judge, Sanchez, and Gallo.

Pretty sure he's the guy who it was predicted might make his MLB debut in September.

He was injured just recently. However, tests were negative (no structural damage) and it was just inflammation. My guess: the Pirates will take it slow with him and he will not see the majors this year. He should get some time in the majors next year.

Yankees system is so deep bro. Josh Smith is the only one they will miss and they have 3 or 4 guys above him on the charts. Can't play with a 80 man roster. Might as well get something of value before they leave for 50k in the rule 5 draft

For the first time in I don't know how many years, I was hoping for the Yankees last night.

No, no, no Bell. Just no.

Rizzo has been awesome!

The Yankees are not out of it by any means. I'm not sure that the bit of sacrifice you made to your farm system will be worth it, but time will tell. I felt like the Yanks were going to make the playoffs anyway, even without the upgrades. Winning the World Series is a whole other story.

They were playing the Rays.

I know that. I was still pulling for the Rays. If the standings are the same as they are now the next time the Rays and the Yankees play, I will pull for the Rays. Despite the last 2 games, I have enough confidence in the Sox to take care of their own business against the Rays. No sense in letting another team, especially the Yankees, back in the race.

We dealt off depth, but not even top of system depth to get what we got. My questions was whether it would be worth the investment. Getting Rizzo has already paid dividends. I am hoping Gallo finds it too

Sometimes adding reinforcements reinvigorates the club. Rizzo has been dynamite. The defense has improved. While we haven’t hit tremendously, we’ve improved in the clutch. This Holmes kid has been pretty good as well. We’ve got 3 home vs the O’s, 4 at home vs the pretender M’s and 3 at KC. We’ve played down to our competition all year. If we can go on a run and take 7 or 8 of 10, we will position ourselves nicely heading into a CWS series

Yankees wouldn't go over the salary cap due to having deals in place with the #1 and #3 ifa in next years class. Rodrick has drawn comps to Franco and Lindor. Would love to see the yankees add in two Stella talents.

Makes sense. Getting guys at the tip top of the IFA is always better. Dominguez was a singular talent. This kid looks like a solid hitter/defender. Keep adding talent Cash
