The Yankees don't get enough base hits. It's home run or nothing. Their offense gets shut down quite often as a result. Throw in some bad base running and not a lot of speed . The Sox win was not the least bit surprising.

Can’t disagree with this statement at all

You weren't surprised?

You projected 100 wins for the Yanks and about 70 for the Sox.

The new ball, the early injuries, and the ultimate inability to hit to situation or even run stunted this team from day 1. Their philosophy is off. Too many unathletic hitters who get hurt too easy or are just three true outcome players

I think you could make a case that Cashman has become flat out incompetent, with the deadline trade for Gallo being the most recent evidence.

It was a tough year for Yankees fans who were dreaming about a championship. Not only did the Red Sox prove that they are a better team right now, but the Red Sox minor league system is now top 10, whereas the Yankees have a weak minor league system. The Red Sox will obviously be the better team going forward.

And the Yankees will reach a cliff after the 2022 season when Judge is free agent, Sanchez is free agent, Tallion is a free agent, Chapman is a free agent, Gallo is a free agent. The Yankees will need to sign these players and yet they are already saddled with the contracts of Sticky Fingers Cole and Stanton. While Stanton had a big year, I'm not sure how great he will be going forward as he gets older. And Cole proved to the world that he isn't quite as dominant without the sticky stuff.

The Yankees need to make a big push for a championship in 2022 and then begin a massive rebuild when they reach the cliff after the 2022 season. Problem is, it is starting to look like the Yankees won't even be able to make a big push for a championship in 2022, they are too far behind the Rays and Red Sox, and maybe the Blue Jays too.

The smart thing? The Yankees should begin a rebuild right now, but I doubt Cashman does that and so the Yankees will reload for 2022, but will come up short again, and then they fall off the cliff in 2023.

Also, in a few years, watch out for the Orioles--they are putting together a superb farm system and their prospects will eventually change the fortunes of the organization. Moreover, the Orioles will get the first pick in the 2022 draft, and that draft is loaded at the top.

I don’t disagree and that’s one of the points I made against the deal at the deadline. The major point for was that even as a three true outcome player, he was better than most us his great defense added something we were lacking. Clearly, his career best beginning of 21 crashed down once he put on the pinstripes.

I’ve said before and I’ll say again, the national rankings take into account mostly just the upper crust of a farm. They do not take into account the depth of an organization. Yanks got Gallo and Rizzo without touching their top 5. That should tell you something about the Yankee farm. I’ll tell you now and continue to tell you that I’ll take the Yanks farm over the Sox right now since the Sox farm is essentially tied entirely to the success of a recent HS draftee and Tristan Casas.

I think I am one of the few who is not that critical of Cashman. He is not without fault, but no matter how right handed this offense was, or how defensively challenged they were, the talent was there. The team should have been better than what they ended up being.

IMO, this is on the players and the manager.

That said, Cashman's time with the Yankees has probably run its course.

As I keep pointing out to Jax, it was Cashman who hand-picked Boone. If Boone is a bad manager, that's on Cash.

That's a fair point about the manager.

That's just not true. Our farm was on the rise before we drafted Mayer and others.

The trades the Yanks made gave up a lot of that "depth" you speak of. It's hard to imagine giving up almost a dozen of your best depth prospects and still think you have better depth than the Sox.

The Sox had a lot of mid to lower level prospects have good to monster years. Sure, a few did not or got hurt, but we have some nice depth, now. We also just saw some very nice talent graduate from prospect level (Houck, Whitlock & Dalbec).

I think not mentioning Duran & Yorke is telling.

Our depth includes Bello, Seabold, Jordan, Groome, Jimenez, Mata, Wilkelman, Song, Winckowski and more.

News: Yankees have informed hitting coach Marcus Thames that his contract will not be renewed for the 2022 season.

@lindseyadler

Sources: Assistant hitting coach P.J. Pilittere will also not have his contract renewed by the Yankees for 2022. Pilittere was drafted by the Yankees in 2004 and has been with the organization since.

News: Yankees have also informed third base coach Phil Nevin that his contract will not be renewed for the 2022 season.

On Phil Nevin:

@jay_jaffe

with an MLB-high 22 outs at home this year (not including Aaron Judge in the Wild Card game), this move was inevitable.

When in doubt, blame the third base coach..

Out at home

Kim 97 - 18 (Yanks led with 27)

Kim 98 - 19

Kim 99 - 20

Kim 00 - 22

Sveum 04 - 21 (leader was Angels - Ron Roenicke 35, highest team amount in years I checked)

Sveum 05 - 15

Sox did not lead the league in any of the above seasons.
