Mike Ford dealt to TB where he will likely have a career resurgence

The exact kind of thing the Rays are good at.

Have they just been lucky, or do they see tweaks to a player's approach that can be made that the other teams don't see?

Maybe Ford will become the new Choi. Both Quad-A, lefty first basemen who had small measures of success but couldn't stick around with the Yanks. I won't be mad if Ford turns things around though, if he has a chance to play elsewhere he should take it since he's almost 30.

Don't leave Greg Bird out of the equation...

The base running of the Jays is a joke.

Can't remember the last singular play with so many bad baserunning mistakes. That was embarrassing, but awesome for us!

IMO they see genuine underdeveloped talent which they are willing to develop.

Yesterday’s play in the 9th vs Chapman is a carbon copy of today’s mess in the 1st.

… and now, their fielding is becoming a complete joke as well.

These guys are major league players for God’s sake. It’s simply unacceptable. Their fundamentals are a joke. Jays play like a bush league team.

I still have flashes of Stanton in Miami. He was an automatic hit and very often he hit with a lot of power. Literally out there wasn't a pitcher who wanted to face him. None.

Wonder what the hell happened with this guy. He is not even the shadow of what he used to be.

Constant injuries and maybe never a chance to get into a long groove.

The 2 times he had over 601 PAs before going to NY, he led the league in HRs with 37 and 59.

I don’t think he got injured in Miami very often.

He has always looked very athletic. It’s really a shame regardless he plays for the Yankees now. He was a HoF candidate.

He's certainly been injured much moresince joining the Yanks, but after his 150 games played in his second season with MIA, he had these game totals:

123

116

145

74

119

159 (Career high in year before trade)

With NYY

158

18

23 (COVID Season)

47, so far in 2021

This offense still blows without the sticky stuff

What a difference even a few innings can make in our perspective...

James Kaprielian beats Yankees. He's 4-1 with a 2.84 ERA.

Cash traded him in 2017 for Sonny Gray.

Cash gave up on Gray and traded him to the Reds (for Shed Long), where he is 17-15 with a 3.14 ERA.

These are the things that make you wonder if Cash knows what he's doing any more.

Kaprielian was about to be dfa’d as he was hurt. So be it on that one.

Also, Boone f***s up again today. German falls apart in the 5th and Boone waits til the sacks are packed to have a lefty warming up. Because he waited, German faced Olsen who promptly drove in 2 runs. Cortes comes in and shuts down the A’s, but why wouldn’t you be proactive?

Good post.

I remember the first Sonny Gray trade. It looks like the two OFs, Fowler and Mateo, will amount to little or nothing. But Kaprielian looks like a quality pitcher, just needs to stay healthy.

How about a 7 year 210 million dollar contract for Judge in the offseason? Get it done Cashman, Red Sox fans are rooting for it. 8 years at 240 million would be even better. :)

Stanton's contract (no trade) runs until 2027 (with a club option for 2028). Thus, a generous Judge extension would lock both of them up for a long time.

Stanton and Judge are not our problems this year. It’s Torres, Frazier, Gardner, our awful 1b spot, 2 months of Sanchez and Lemahieu.

True enough. I was looking more into the future--if the Yankees extend Judge to around 30 million a year, around 55 million of the Yankees payroll will be locked into Stanton and Judge, two guys who have a penchant for injuries, something that will likely increase as they get older.

Edit: I just read that the Marlins will be kicking in 10 million in 2026 and 2027 -- that helps the Yankees bring down the cost of Stanton. With that said, the Yankees are paying Stanton 32 million in 2023, 2024, and 2025. If they sign Judge to a 30 million dollar per year contract, the Yankees would pay Stanton and Judge together 62 million for 2023, 2024, and 2025. The Marlins relief begins in 2026.

You might say the jury is still out on the Stanton acquisition.

22 mill seemed like an excellent price.

But he wasn't expected to be a DH only, or to have so much trouble staying healthy.

But he can still mash when he plays.

All true.

One would expect much better health from a DH only.

The bottom line on the Yanks is that they are far from dead, because of their individual talent.

Hell, I think we have to play each other 16 more times, isn't it?
