What would adding TB do for this team. Would he be a spark plug or a cancer! The talent level is off the charts at times. We need a dominate arm that can pitch deep into games. If not him who is the guy.... maybe it’s someone nobody is leaning towards.

Bauer fits in with every team.

His contract not so much.

Trevor Bauer trains in the offseason at Driveline Baseball in Seattle:

... and is familiar with at least one member of the Seattle Mariner rotation:

After shedding big contracts, the Mariners have payroll flexibility:

The righthanded Bauer would complement three returning lefthanded Seattle starters who this year have posted 1.7 fWAR in 10 starts, 1.4 fWAR in nine starts and 1.1 fWAR in nine starts:

With team options, the Mariners control southpaws Marco Gonzales, Justus Sheffield and Yusei Kikuchi through the 2025 season.

One downside is that a resulting rotation reshuffling could block the progress of righthanded Seattle prospects Emerson Hancock, Logan Gilbert and George Kirby, who currently are ranked No. 31, No. 36 and No. 100 in MLB Pipeline's Top 100 list:

The Official Site of Major League Baseball

Another option might be righthander Taijuan Walker, who last offseason as a non-tendered free agent chose to return to Seattle despite a dismal 2020 forecast for the Mariners.

Bauer and Walker.

Or not.:)

I like the idea of signing Bauer, and the Red Sox should definitely explore signing him, but with T.Houck looking like a future ace, maybe they don't need Bauer after all. Instead, the Red Sox could pursue a more affordable middle of the rotation starter and avoid the massive contract that Bauer will likely receive.

I would sign him for 3 years. Anything more than that, no thank you.

So no, he won't be a fit.

3 starts. You don’t even know if Houck will start 2021 in the majors. He’s been impressive, for sure.

Says the guy who anointed Garcia as the best pitcher ever after 2 starts. Or was it one start?

Don't rain on our parade!

With Dombrowski going to LAA, he’s signing Bauer. 100%

I’ll go 50/50 on Bauer to the Angels (assuming they actually hire Dombrowski). With the New Mets ownership also in line to make a big splash, Bauer does make for a good PR target for them...

As well as he pitched he is not an ace - he was never that impressive in the minors and only has 2 pitches.

Not trying to be negative -maybe he can be middle of rotation in future which is better than a bullpen piece( which it looked like last year)

On the topic of fits, Trevor Bauer's reported desire to pitch every fourth day fits well with the reported desire of Seattle lefthander Yusei Kikuchi, a product of Japan's six-man-rotation, one-start-a-week system:

The Cincinnati Reds reportedly think Trevor Bauer is a fit:

Trevor Bauer has dominated on the mound this season and has the chance of becoming the first Reds pitcher to win the National League Cy Young Award. Bauer also performed his best as Cincinnati battled for a playoff spot and did it in his walk-year ahead of becoming a first-time

Bauer is obviously a good fir for Boston, but I doubt Bloom goes all i on one big contract like that, especially since he spent this offseason tying to get put of those types of deals...

Good point, but dumping Price age 34, with 3 post prime years left on his deal is different from entering a new deal that encompasses some prime years.

I'm not saying I think Bloom will compete for Bauer. I don't think he will, but with a $60+M budget on his hands, for the first time in his career, we're not really sure how he will approach this FA market.

Sox need to at least in the discussion about Bauer. I can not take another season watching pitching like we did this year. Probably would have lost my sight from watching if it wasn’t for the shorten season.

It's really not time to butt up against the luxury tax limits with a $30M contract thrown in there.....that will cripple Bloom's ability to navigate next couple of years. You always have to remember that some of the younger talent will need bigger paycheck as time goes on.....

Build a contender first, then go out and sign the best player....

That's what the Yankees thought. :D Just couldn't resist.

It's very hard to build a contender without a few solid and durable pitchers in the rotation- not to mention a decent pen.

Unless, we suddenly and magically start producing solid pitching from within our system, how do we become "contenders first?"

I know Bloom is supposed to be the master of finding hidden gems and the Rays have a history of developing good pitchers in their system, but that takes a long time.

I'm not saying your point is mistaken. I do think we can become playoff contenders without going large and long on one great pitcher, but unless Sale comes back to form, I doubt we win a ring without a true ace or two.

Pedro & Schilling (+Lowe/Wake/Arroyo- all with 29+ GS'd)

Schilling & Beckett (+Wake/Dice-K/Lester)

Lester & Lackey (+Buch/Doubront/Dempster)

Sale & Price (+ Porcello/ERod/Eovaldi)
