WEll, they also "dumped" Josiah Gray in that deal, and I bet they'd take him back.

But the Sox just do not have the resources to get Castillo, Cincy interest in Downs or not...

Forget it; LA wouldn't even give up a Double A pitcher for a Hall of Famer who's worth 350 million dollars to them.

While I doubt this trade would be acceptable to either the Pirates of the Rays, it was accepted by BTV and would fill just about every need we have:

SP: Taillon

Closer: Anderson

CF: Kiermaier

2B: Adam Frazier

1B: Josh Bell

C: Stallings

To TBR:

C Vazquez

CF Duran

to Pitt

SP Baz (from TBR)

1B Chavis

C Grullon

SS/2B Chatham

Our 26 Man Roster (0thers)

SP: Sale, Eovaldi, Taillon, ERod, Pivetta/Houck

(Seabold, Mata, Mazza,Weber, Ward)

RP: Anderson, Barnes, Brasier, DHern, Taylor, Brice, Whitlock, Valdez

(Brewer, Walden, Bazardo, Payamps, Feltman, Gonsalves)

C: Stallings, Plawecki (Wong)

1B: Bell, Dalbec (Casas)

2B: Frazier, Arroyo (Downs))

3B: Devers (Potts)

SS: Bogaerts (Munoz/Arauz)

LF: Benintendi/Renfroe (Puello)

CF: Kiermaier (Wilson, Rosario)

RF: Verdugo (Gettys)

DH: Martinez (Ockimey)

Good effort, Moon. The Rays might do it, but Ben would just be basically replacing Tall with Baz, and Bell with Chavis. I don't know if the money numbers would be worth it, or if he could get more for those Pirates. I can see Bloom swinging some sort of deal with the Rays this winter, based on his deep knowledge of their surplus, sleepers and needs.

Baz is pre-arb and Chavis cheaper than Bell. I'd be okay giving them Groome or Ward instead of Chatham, if it got the deal done. (I'd then give Chatham to TB to sweeten their take, if they insisted.)

TAmpa Bays is not exactly in dire need of middle infielder types, as their starting SS is younger than Chatham, their starting 2B is only 6 months older than Chatham, and they have two prospects ranked in the top 50 by BA who both play middle infield in 2B/SS Vidal Brujan and BA #1 Wander Franco.

If anything, this is a team unloading middle infield, not acquiring it.

They might take Ward or Groome, however...

Good point. I'd do it with Groome- maybe with Ward.

This is why we can't have nice things. This value site is horrible at best.

So you are going to get an elite closer in pre-arb status, a front of the rotation type starter with injury concerns, a solid backup catcher, and two salary dumps that aren't terribly overpaid (one of which with a higher likelihood of recovery to his norm in Bell) for Vazquez, Duran, Chavis and Chatham? This is lunacy. Chatham and Durran have limited value as limited power and bat players. Chavis is a change of scenery guy. Vaz is the only one with true value.

We are talking about two teams that are in constant money-saving mode. Vaz is not only a true value- he fits their salary structure. While Anderson's first arb is after next year, Vaz is worth more.

Pitt is going to trade Taillon and or Musgrove and have been shopping Frazier and Bell, as well. (I'd do the deal without Bell.)

I think you may undervalue Duran even more than I do. I'd sub Ward and Groome for Chavis and Chatham, if needed or even add them to the deal. (BTW, TB loves "change of scenery guys.")

The site has serious flaws, for sure, but it is not "horrible."

Are you just upset they value Castillo way more than Torres?

It does help if you don't try to bulk up packages with expendable players and actually include someone other teams might actually want. I struggle to put Chavis and Chatham in the latter category, since most teams already have guys like that...

Also, is it really any crazier than getting the reigning NL MVP for a salary dump and two low upside A ball players?

Agreed. To me Chatham might be worth 1-2 not 4.9, and Chavis may be worth 3-5 not 7.5. This does not make the site "horrible." Out of all the Sox players listed, those seem like the only glaring over-valued players.

I don't think Duran is all that over-valued. He may be worth 9-11 not 12.1.

Maybe Pitt might want Chavis and Chatham, if we take Bell & Frazier from them, but there's a strong chance they don't. If we take back Polanco or Kiermaier, that team may want Duran. Maybe not.

I do think most teams would like or want Ward (4.5) and Groome (3.9) and even Bello (1.0) - maybe more than Chavis and Chatham.

Kiermaier is making $11 mil for 2 more years. Stanton had 10 years and $270 mil left on his deal and a full no trade

Sox sign Matt Andriese to 1 year deal plus team option for 2022.

@redsoxstats

Red Sox had 26 pitchers throw 100 pitches last season, Andriese's .284 xwOBA would have ranked 2nd behind Darwinzon Hernandez and ahead of Tanner Houck.

@Feinsand

The Red Sox have announced a one-year deal with RHP Matt Andriese (plus a club option for 2022). Boston also announced that C # Deivy Grullón was claimed off waivers by the Reds.

Well he had 3 good at bats...

It's always interesting to me when they decide to keep some guys over others. Maybe they figured that having Wong as the 3rd C was good enough? Would he be ready to come up if there was an injury to Vaz or Plawecki?

$11M x 2 is a lot for TB.

Seems like a good depth signing, but I'm still waiting for our first major acquisition.

Per MLBTR:

The Sox were second to the Dodgers on signing RP'er Tommy Kahnle.

Apparently, the Sox "like" SS Marcus Semien. I doubt they sign him to play 2B, so of they did sign him, who would be moved or traded? Bogey to 2B? Devers to 1B?

Andriese is a real big leaguer. The s*** he did last year was grab minor leaguers and see if they could be big leaguers. You know how that turned out

Agreed, and the financial risk is low.

Posted
The old schoolers are not liking him one bit LOL

Well can you blame them? The top tier free agents are just flying off the shelves. First it was Charlie Morton. Then ...errr... Charlie Morton. And umm... Morton Charles. And Chuck Morton. Oh and Arlie-Chay Orton-May.

At this pace, there won’t be anyone good left soon!!!

Posted
Depth signing? For a deeper pile of garbage? Andriese guy stinks. He is AAA depth if the minors play in 2021.
