Yes the length of Judge’s contract was insane just like Bogey’s was. The good of the team , short, and long term should have been to include Mookie, and to me that would have been over Raffy if you could only have one, but like I keep saying if you don’t want to pay to play then take your money, and go home. As I said in an earlier post Mookie has a lot of deferred money in his contract, so it’s not all being payed out in 12 years. Something could have, and should have been worked out by the Red Sox.

Betts at $400M/14 with no money deferred would have been better than Judge's.

Age.

Body type/injury prone

If Betts was ever a bad player, I would be pretty shocked. He seems like a guy who is so good and so high IQ that he'll at the very least provide some type of value, even when he's older. I don't know what the advanced numbers say in terms of his defense at these positions, but its pretty impressive he is able to slide in and play SS/2B.

It's all in the "twitch."

The last couple of years he had some nagging injuries that I thought might be taking a toll on his numbers.

Right now he is making it look like he's playing against Little Leaguers.

Trading Mookie was a mistake, a big mistake. One of the bigger mistakes the Red Sox ever made. Losing C.Fisk is up there too. I don't blame Bloom, a move like this, and the money involved, is the responsibility of ownership. John Henry must have concluded that Mookie was great but that he wasn't worth the money he was asking for. John Henry was wrong. It is hard to hate on John Henry, though, an owner who brought four championships to the Red Sox. When all things are considered, John Henry has been a great owner for the Red Sox, and we are lucky to have him, even though he totally screwed up the Mookie Betts situation.

Yes, the quick twitch muscles, baby.

But he's got the whole package of physical and mental attributes you could ask for in a baseball player. Or a bowler LOL

I remember reading we drafted him, because his "twitch muscles" were off the charts spectacular.

He is certainly gifted in many other ways, too.

If he could pitch like the Babe, he'd be number one on the all time Sox player that got away list.

Why do you make these posts full of common sense instead of s***ing on the greatest owner this team has ever had (even though he FUBAR'd the Mookie situation). Stop this madness at once!

The past is in the past. Until the ship is steered back in the correct direction, the complaints have merit.

So does the acknowledgement of the good times. And you can complain (I complain all the time) while still making sense.

You mean better than Tom Yawkey? (a pretty low bar)

Well, there was the...

Haywood Sullivan, Buddy LeRoux & Jean Yawkey group

and

The JRY Trust with John Harrington

Those two bars were a bit higher.

I'll just say, 4 rings in 2 decades will be hard to top, so be careful what you wish for.

Lannin was a self made Canadian who brought Babe Ruth to the Sox and sold the team because he was “too much of a fan.”

He was the prince that was promised.

We need to resurrect him this spooky season.

well to be honest most of the Bloom years have been a disaster.

Talkin owners, but yeah. Half have sucked. Half have given us brief hopes, only to be dashed.

Babe Ruth was sold between the 1919 and 1920 seasons.

Mookie Betts was traded between the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

Henry should have been more of a student of history, or more superstitious...

Mookie is having one of the greatest offensive months in baseball history. I'll recap it tomorrow.

Julio Rodriguez is right there with him…

He continued it tonight. Hit two more homers and now has 38 on the season.

Yeah sure, but you know, hindsight is 20/20. No one at the time of the trade could have predicted Mookie would be any good.

Lol

Some worried about him aging poorly!

Don't you get it. We can't be signing anybody over the age of 30 to anything other than a one year contract. It is all downhill after 30!

I get that you're trying to make a joke, but Mookie wasn't even 28 when he was traded. Make it make sense at least.
