Is this the same Scott Boras who waited out the JD Martinez negotiations to get $100 mill less than his asking price?

Waiting only works if someone else gets interested and is willing to pay more. But if Bloom waited until April 1, Betts’ value plummets. There was a hard deadline...

No there was not a hard deadline. The only deadline was the trading deadline.

Oh you're the expert on what the Orioles know. Have ever been to Cambden Yards or old Memorial Stadium. Have you ever read the Baltimore Sun or seen MASN

Do yo know where EUTAW street is

Clearly you are unfamiliar with my recent string of Baltimore jokes.

By the way, which aspect of Baltimore geography that you are highlighting makes you the expert on their trading process? Which street that you drove down told you the Orioles wanted more bad prospects than good ones and that the Orioles do not understand prospect attrition?

I said that about Price three or four months ago and these same posters were telling me I was wrong then. In Betts case however I think because he is arguably the best player in baseball not named Trout his value wouldn't have diminished. If Scott Boras rather then Chain Bloom had been negotiating the deal for Boston he would have done what Boras has always done and outwaited the other guys and got the better deal and got what he needed not what he got. Bloom got hosed by his former boss.

Is that what the pundits are saying?

But there was.

Trading Mookie in the off-season is more appealing, because a team gets an additional draft pick if/when they cannot extend him. The draft pick disappears come opening day.

That pick absolutely makes Betts more appealing, as they know they can recoup at least some of the minor league/young MLB talent they deal for Betts...

Yeah, but you're just making blind assumptions that Bloom could have gotten a better deal than he did.

No I making the statement that the deal Bloom made was a bad one because his former boss took advantage of him.

Waiting till the trading deadline would have meant paying 2/3 of Betts's salary this year, among other possible problems.

And you literally have no idea what you're talking about.

Also that. Which means no reset and back to zero possibility of bringing him back...

I do not think the Dodgers are worried about their inability to resign Betts. Moreover that hardly constitutes a hard deadline an advantage but not a deadline.

It was a deadline for Bloom if he wanted the best return possible.

Whether or not it was a bad deal will be resolved in time. It may very well turn out that way. More of these “stars for younger talent” deals turn into Machado trades than Bartolo Colon trades.

The question was, was it the best deal Bloom could have gotten?

No it wssn't. He could have done better by being more deliberate. Face it the Dodgers saw him coming and took advantage of him.

I do understand the Orioles know more about trading for prospects than either of us and are well aware of the risks of just grabbing multiple players over one or two good ones.

It’s not always about what you know; it’s about knowing what you don’t know...

So let us sacfrice today for a maybe next year. When you have the opportunity to win in baseball you take it because too much can happen that may prevent you from ever getting back.

Have you seen this year's rotation?

That’s a massive assumption.

There is not a team in MLB that doesn’t upgrade right field by acquiring Betts. So why would these teams sit idly by while the Dodgers and Padres made sure Betts’ availability reached every headline? Especially after the Graterol physical gave them all a second chance. What suitors were going to come around if Bloom was even more patient?

You do realize the Dodgers also took Price, right? Even with the Red Sox paying half, that significantly lowers the return for Bets.

If the Sox wanted more for Betts, the best Avenue would have been to try to deal Price separately. Which they did, to no avail...

The blue crab cakes in the Inner Harbor are the only reason to visit Baltimore...

Plus, in season trades usually bring diminishing returns. I'm not sure who Elkton was refering to as saying "hold onto Betts to increase his trade value" but I don't think it was people who are posting right now.

I thought it was the "homie juice" that someone was trying to sell us at the TA.

Really he doesn’t like that it was a salary dump. No one does. Not even Bloom.

But Dombrowski left an awful mess of bad contracts, injured, aging pitchers, and a barren farm system. If the Sox held Betts and Price, this team would be maybe above average in 2020, and then well below in 2021 and 2022. That might not bother him now, but it probably (definitely) would in 2021 and 2022...

We'd also never hear the end of how Bloom is a disaster who is probably just some robot or puppet and could never lace up a pair of cleats. Also, I heard that Bloom doesn't even know that Baltimore isn't the capital of Maryland! What a dum dum.

Unless you're a Red Sox fan; we got comfortable seats 20 rows behind home plate at a Sox-O's game and stayed overnight at a nice hotel within walking distance for less than it costs for ancient, obstructed view seats and parking at Fenway.

And in that short walk, how many homeless people accosted you?

Verdugo reportedly to miss the first bit of the season. OH GOD!!!! The curse is happening !!!

Need to get rid of the tiki idol that Bloom got from Greg Brady.

Just Babe Ruth's statue, all by his lonesome... the Birds' major league Hall of Fame statues wouldn't let him pose with them on the other side of the fence.
