C'mon man, no need for that sort of crazy hyperbole. They got nothing but cash for Ruth.

Plus the Sox only had Mookie for one more year. The Yanks got Ruth forever.

But... but... but... that's a distinction without a difference....

This deal has problems and it's not even official. At least a hundred years ago the Boston owner got to pay off the mortgage on Fenway. Now someone can craft a reply about Betts and mortgaging the Sox future...

Look, I'm on record with demanding Verdugo in any LA deal, but it wasn't my job to do due diligence background checks beforehand. I'm not saying he's guilty of anything, but you know and we all know that any little shread of controversy will be blown out of all proportions by the two-faced, backstabbing Boston media. Especially now.

Seems like posters on here, SOSH, Twitter, etc are currently doing that for the media.

Also, can we please stop with the "but the Boston media will blow this out of proportion!" ********?

1. Who cares? Seriously? Does anyone really care about this?

2. Should the Red Sox only make moves that Tony Massarotti approves of?

3. Is it really "out of proportion" if everyone knows?

4. If they're going to blow Verdugo have a beer as a tenneager into a charcter flaw, why will they spare Betts' and his desire to reach free agency (aka "insurmountable greed")?

I simply do not know why this particular story is getting so much attention.

I am not thrilled with Verdugo other than that without Mookie we need another OFer and my opinion regarding Verdugo has nothing to do with this bit of unproven nonsense. I guess we know he was in the room where it happened and thats it. Sorry, not interested in going off the deep end on that. Would I have been in the room as some inert object in a situation like that. Nope.... but I am old as dirt and was raised in a different time and place.

i mean, who amongst us hasn't chugged beers whilst our buddies took turns on an underage drunk girl? if it's you - please feel free to throw the first stone.

alternately - it will all be forgotten the first day he goes 3for4...

I don't care (for all I know it's partly my fault for bringing back underage drinking as a teen in high school; my teammates and I weren't into drugs). I just flinch when I read the crap I've already seen about this kid, and it's not all about how he parties. The local media and national media are on witch-hunts in every pro sport, and New England has been a target all century, and especially now in the MLB.

Back to the damn trade: another pitcher please.

Why is Mookie so selfish with his bowling hobby?

That's not what happened though. There was one teammate involved in the assault who has been blacklisted from baseball.

good point. he may actually be worth $420MM if he stopped teh bowling nonsense and focused 100% on baseball ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Look, I'm not overly happy about the Betts trade, but please stop with the "character concerns" nonsense. He's not implicated in anything except underage drinking.

I read the story. This is a nothing for Verdugo. They need to move on

No one expects Verdugo to be Betts. No one. Not even Verdugo's mom.

The bootom line is the Red Sox needed to do something drastic to prevent far worse ramifications down the road. One poster on this board repeatedly said the contracts for Price and Eovaldi were bad ideas because they would cost this team it's core talent, specifically Betts. But to be fair, whether you listened to me or not, it's not like anyone here could have prevented it.

This is the smartest way around the fallout, with the possible exception that maybe dealing Eovaldi instead of half of Price would have worked better.

When the "yankees troll" is more supportive of a Sox player than the fans.

Note: It's clear that Jacko isn't a troll.

That and the fact Mookie wants 420 million, which some might argue would be another bad idea.

+1

Chaim Bloom worked all offseason to come up with a solution and in the end took the best offer.

Of course he's not a troll. He's a Talksox member since 2006.

Agreed, nobody expects Verdugo to be Mookie. So what!

We need an OFer because anybody that wants JD out there any longer is out of his frigging mind!

Those two things are not exclusive properties.

Of course he's a troll. The fact that he's been here since 2006 doesn't excuse his trolling behavior. He's not a troll in every post but he has days when he looks like a troll, walks like a troll, talks like a troll, and posts like a troll. The only troll-like thing he doesn't do is that he doesn't associate with Harmony.

Maybe we can give him the honorary title of Resident Troll?

Although I like the more sophisticated Troll Laureate...

Bloom should call the Dodgers and tell them that he will take Maeda. I'd rather have a serviceable cheap starter than an overweight relief arm with a history of arm problems.

I'd take Brusdar.
