Quality down, prices up.....an American tradition by now.

Frankly, I don't care how Henry spends his money. I would have just as soon seen Mookie in a Sox uni for one more year because it is going to be hard to justify bringing him back as a FA with all the fixing this franchise needs. It literally has nothing to draw from down on the farm. We have no players that can come up and actually play in an MLB uni while making the league minimum. We are going nowhere that way.

You have to have those components that can actually come up and play at league minimum to put around your big stars pulling down the big bucks. Right now we have a bunch of likely underperforming big paychecks and not much else. IMO, Henry offl-loaded salary not just to get rid of the lux tax burden but because he knows he is not going anywhere in 2020 and not likely to be going anywhere in 2021 either.

In fact, we have one "vet" that acts like the 2013 vet team.....and that is X. X will have enough to do dealing with the players to his left and right in the infield, particularly bolstering our potential budding young super star, Rafi. The rest of them appear to me to be the usual 25 players, 25 limos Red Sox regardless of Red Sox PR's strained efforts to suggest otherwise.

Ah, it's like that with every team now, jung. 99% of players only care about themselves and the money. Show me a major league team that is all about "team spirit" over money. Please.

The Nats are your World Series champs, and their two big heroes Strasburg and Rendon immediately landed monster paydays - Rendon with the hapless Angels.

It is what it is.

You are so right about those ticket prices and the fans. I'm a disturbed disgruntled fan right now. it is the players on the field that matter to me. Giving away a future Hall of Famer for likely very little in return, does it for me. I would be curious to know if there are any others seeing things as I do. I have no interest in paying the price to visit Fenway again. This is usually where someone says that I'm whining or not looking at things correctly. Possibly true I guess but there you go.

Cry me a river, man.

(Just saying that because it's kind of fun stirring you up.)

I do really get the anger with the ticket prices. As I mentioned earlier, they tried it at Liverpool and the fans turned on them viciously and with organisation. They backed down on the price rises immediately.

A similar move from the Sox fans would have the same result.

Well there is actually a "team" in contemporary MLB. Its called the MLBPA.

My point was that there is little sense in claiming some sort of 2013 opportunity for the 2020 Red Sox. Not happening.

There is one very simple fix. Cut the Twins out entirely, take Maeda for Boston and roll with a club that could be useful in 2020

Throw in one more decent to good prospect and I'd happily shake on that.

As I understand it, the increase in ticket prices is pretty small.

Why do you keep referencing the 2013 team? They were a one-off. And most of those guys you're talking about sucked the next year and led us to a last-place finish.

But on top of the already highest prices, though right?

Don’t care. Want Mookie back.

this might happen if the gatorade physical fails. Bloom picking him up at Logan: "ummm...welcome back Mookie! we never really wanted to trade you anyways"

Because other posters are suggesting the possibility of the 2020 team being the 2013 team.....NOT

Who the heck said that about the 2020 team?

Geezus you usually read the threads pretty thoroughly. Swi for one.

The Trade Simulator was probably developed by the same company that developed the voting App used in Iowa.

lol. pretty good A7. +2 points.

Taking half of Price’s contract, giving up Maeda and Verdugo is plenty for the Dodgers. Or the Sox could ask the Twins for a different prospect or a second prospect

Man - some of you guys are so entitled!

I'm a UK based Sox fan and as you probably know the number 1 game over here is football (or soccer as you will know it).

Many UK football teams have no chance of ever winning a title but their supporters are loyal and follow them regardless. Some of the more well known teams have been very badly managed financially in recent years with the FSG run Liverpool being an exception. From over here it looks as if John Henry has been a great owner for the Red Sox and has brought us riches that we could only have dreamt about before the turn of the century. We've had a good run in recent years and now we have to rebuild. You have to take the rough with the smooth in sport. Our day will come again.

A 12 year $420m contract is such a massive gamble - if it was your money I bet most of you wouldn't take that risk. Sometimes you have to accept that you just can't have what you want.

you need to post more often.

We don't know whether the consummated deal was better than, worse than or the same as earlier offers.

We're confident that Chaim Bloom waited until late in the offseason to pull off the trade.

No, we don't know, and some comments have come out about the Padres failed efforts. Maybe someday we'll know more.

voting with your $$ is the only recourse against the billionaires. not going to games wont cut it though...you need to not watch NESN as well. that is the big hit....

Nice phrase. You (and Kimmie) have chanced my thinking on this. It reminds me of what the great philosopher Jagger said, "You can't always get what you want, but sometimes.... you get what you need.'

We'd all like to see Mookie around for his entire career, but at what price? Do you want to see him here forever if it means we never win a WSC again because JH can't/won't spend enough additional money to put quality players around him?

We may not like this but it may be what we need.

Had we paid Betts $400M/10, many here would be ape s***. With the tax, we'd be paying him $50+M a year.

The deal had to be made.

I think the Dodger got hosed. Their only hope is that Price rebounds and Betts re-signs with them at a reasonable cost.

dodgers fans are hype. rightfully so.

It's crazy enough to think that Mookie Betts and Cody Bellinger, two MVPs from the last two seasons, are about to team up on the Dodgers. But Bellinger and Betts are even more than MVPs. They are true five-tool superstars in their primes -- baseball's unicorns, players who can do

As I posted much earlier....the Dodgers are risk takers for one and they are as devoted in this ownership group to winning it all as the previous ownership group was. That is why I said it would be the Dodgers early in this process.

I don't think they really care if they resign Mookie particularly if they win it this year and they are willing to gamble on Price for half his salary to win it this year.

The Dodgers will likely be as disinterested in signing Mookie for 10-12 years as we will be.

I moved out of New England so that I wouldn't have watch NESN anymore. It was the ONLY reason. Definitely not the weather or anything like that.
