Did the same dust up between JBJ and Eck hurt JBJ at all?

Nope.

I'd say JBJ's dig at Eck was a little more under the radar. He didn't curse him out on the team plane.

The only people who cared about the Eckersley “issue” were fans who didn’t like Price anyway. It was blown out of proportion and caused no issues for the team or in the locker room. Same with JBJ/Eck

iirc didnt jbj meet with Eck to hash it out after the fact and apologize? i dont believe price took such steps but not 100% sure.

You are correct. Plus it was the way Price challenged Hall of Famer Eckersley. Moreover the Boston sports media dumped all over Price.

But there is that one guy complaining about Verdugo's image, although mostly because he does not like the trade...

You mean me? Or articles like this?

And you know what? There are even people (those 'one guys'!) who would tarnish Kobe's legacy by pointing out that he admitted, in writing, to raping a woman in Denver.

So I don't get it. In my view, you and other apologists should either state outright that you do not believe these reports (that's fine, but you haven't done that yet); or simply state outright that rape isn't a problem for you, and you're fine associating with such people or cheering them on. I mean, who among us hasn't invited a 17-year-old runaway to our hotel, got her drunk, then filmed our buddies having sex 'with' her once she's passed out?

By the way, I don't give a crap about V's "image." I DO give a crap that he was involved in this.

there was $217MM reasons Price was never going to get a break from the boston media.

plus there was this:

Manny and I were at this game sitting on the Monster. pretty sure 3 different red sox coaches got tossed in this same game.

Seems weird the media and fans would care so much when Price and Ortiz, hashed things out and Papi called Price one of best teammates he ever had. But okay

Odd, but even when I saw it happen, I always assumed he was just spouting off yet another "it's all about the team" sports cliche: 'Don't look at me; when you throw at any guy on the team, you have to answer to the team.' I was actually surprised that anyone (i.e., 'everyone'!) took it as they did. DId any of his team-mates accuse him of that? (I don't think they did, but I could be wrong.) And did DP ever say anything about it?

I think some of the scouting reports mention that Verdugo may have "maturity" issues. I just wonder how he will hold up under the pressure of playing in Boston. I have made no bones about my doubts about this trade. However, even those in favor of the trade must recognize the tremendous pressure that Verdugo will be under replacing a fan favorite such as Betts in Boston. LA fans may love their Dodgers but they simply aren't as rabid as Red Sox fans. It will be more than interesting to see if this kid can handle it. Remember accomplished veterans such as Carl Crawford wilted under the pressure of playing in Fenway.

No doubt. The chances he flops of never amounts to much more than a +2-3 WAR player is significant.

Here's a few things I found...

https://www.dodgersnation.com/dodgers-prospect-news-alex-verdugo-receives-high-ranking-from-mlb-com/2019/01/25/

Baseball Prospectus wrote this in 2018: Prospects with multiple 70-grade tools aren't especially common, particularly when one of those tools is the elusive hit. But if Verdugo's bat pans all the way out he might be that guy. His arm will certainly do its part, and judging by his demolition of PCL pitching at age 21, the stick should be favored to follow suit. It remains a mystery in this stimulated era of long-ball offense what Verdugo's power numbers might look like as a modern-day big leaguer, but he's a good enough hitter to grow into an everyday role whether the pop comes or not. He'll try to force the issue of a longer audition on a short timeline in 2018.

I don’t know what to make of that story. I don’t get why only papers like the Lowell Sun are carrying it, assuming another one is. Google isn’t much help.

But I’m rarely one to assume anyone is guilty of anything with very little evidence...

I just read this and have to reply: I personally never wanted Price, even before he was signed by DD. His history as a failed starter in the postseason, plus his whining about Papi watching how far playoff pitches went over the fence were immediate red flags to me. And then Boston went and made him the highest paid pitcher ever.

And it enrages me to think that the Red Sox just traded one of their best players in history to get rid of one of their worst contracts in history.

People can complain all they want about the Sale and Eovaldi deals. The one that will now and forever live in infamy is the one that forced Mookie Betts out the door.

There are some who didn't want Price, but the majority here wanted him badly. I didn't have anything against him as a pitcher, I was just very much opposed to the huge contract.

As far as the Sox trading Mookie to get rid of Price's contract, I don't think that's an accurate statement.

I hope Price and Mookie both do well in LA. They helped this team win a World Series and I see no reason to hate them. Best of luck to them, especially if they play Yankees in WS

100% agree. That said, I would prefer that the Dodgers not win a World Series next year, unless it comes down to them or the Yankees.

This an editorial by the Lowell Sun so it represents the opinion of the editor. It mentions that Boston sports radio has discussed it as well. While the Sun may not the circulation of the Globe, Boston sports radio does. This could get interesting if the story gets any traction especially if any other behavioral or judgment issues arise.

That's, uh...not what the story you linked says.

As I understand it, Verdugo filmed the two drunk girls beating up the other drunk girl...obviously not good.

But I have yet to find anything saying he was present during or in any way involved in the sexual assault. The way the media has reported this story has caused a lot of confusion, though.

I'm not rooting for them to win World Series or anything, I only care about two teams winning. 1. Red Sox. 2. Not Yankees. Dodgers winning wouldn't bother me though. I like A lot of their players.

Even then, you might need to drop an “allegedly” or two in there. What that story says “Person A says Verdugo filmed it, but Verdugo claims to have been passed out.”...

Regardless of what exactly happened, I think we can all agree it was a dumb decision and situation to put himself in, and hopefully he's matured since then.

I think you and I have different views of what constitutes (or can be excused as being) a "dumb decision"! I'm sure we both made plenty of those. I'm also pretty sure neither of us was ever in a room, drunk or passed out, where an underage kid was being beaten up then later sexually assaulted by our buddies. Another remarkable and jaw-dropping detail in this story is the way Dodger "fixers" determined that the way to handle it was to invite the girl to dinner with the players involved.

No argument. But the rapist label might be a bit premature...
