Whomever you bring in, it’s not going to be a long term guy. Listen, as much as some of you want to think this is “prevalent throughout the game”, the reactions of a lot of players throughout the league show you it isn’t. Who is going to be so stupid as to react with shock publicly only to know they’re doing it too? It leaves people open to be publicly labeled a hypocrite.

As much as the Sox and Astros fans want to wish this away, it isn’t going away and the titles will be forever tainted. And if the reports are true that the Sox couldn’t do it during the POs, then it was entirely unnecessary!

If the Sox weren't using it doing the POs, it kind of helps validate the title, doesn't it?

That's not what Morrison said though.

There are a lot of other teams/GMs and managers nervous now because if you think the Astros and the Red Sox were the only teams in MLB stealing signs electronically I have some ocean front property in Tennessee for sale.

I agree completely. It somehow strains credulity to be thinking that the only teams who are cheating are the two teams that won the WS.

IMO Manfred won't do any more "investigating" than he's done already. He's making the Astros and the Sox the poster children for cheating and the penalties for it in the hope that other teams will stop - or won't start - doing it. The absolute LAST thing he wants is an investigation that might prove that this type of cheating is endemic in MLB; that would tarnish the entire sport.

In Manfred's case, sometimes you're better off not knowing things.

This "scandal" is far from over, and Beltran is the next to go. It doesn't matter that Manfred absolved the players -- and is desperate to keep New York out of the mix, since it is too important for MLB right now that the media capital of the world gets back on top again -- but Beltran is going to have such a hard time managing the Mets answering questions about "cheating" that Wilpon might just join the other superintendents (Henry and Crane) and call it a snowday.

And no, it's not a parallel to when the Mets changed their minds at the last minute about Wally Backman, because he was charged with an actual crime -- not engaging in an accepted part of the culture of his sport like trying to decipher secret codes.

Yankee fans also just better hope when Beltran crashes he doesn't come clean about his tenure as their "special advisor" -- and the reasons Cora called him their "best free agent acquisition"...

If there is any chance of this mess being fully investigated it will be because media keeps digging and keeps the pressure on. But remember, the one truism about modern media, sports or otherwise is that if they push too hard they end up looking themselves in the mirror and wondering if they are really chewing on their own tails. Its true in media covering government and politics and just as true in sports media.

Here's a new piece trying to drag the Yankees/Beltran into this with the comments Cora made after the London series.

Is this different than the "Fire Cora" thread?

this one was started by a yankees troll that sits by his keyboard waiting for any negative news on the Red Sox to immediately start a thread about it. the other one was started the day Cora was hired as per Slasher tradition for the new hiring of a GM or Manager....

I love the "mutually agreed" part. Henry and the rest of front office people all "mutually agreed" that it was time to get rid of Cora

the horses head in cora's bed probably help them come to a "mutual agreement"

Manfred knows he f***ed up not being proactive about the video stuff. And if any more teams get implicated, the fingers will start pointing at him too.

Manfred's performance to this point is already despicable. So IMO he has already crossed the Rubicon whether he knows it or not.

Everything needs 5 separate posts for the same topic.

This is the way.

Yup, he's only punishing the Sox.

All posters that tolerate Baby Yoda being smacked get put on ignore.

what if you simultaneously love baby yoda and also found humor in the scout bikers punching him?

As much as the Sox and Astros fans want to wish this away, it isn’t going away and the titles will be forever tainted. And if the reports are true that the Sox couldn’t do it during the POs, then it was entirely unnecessary! Also, anytime there’s a tainted team and punishments rendered, the fallout is usually a below expected performance. Everyone already knew the Sox were being budget conscious and were subtracting from an 84 win team. Now this. So I doubt the Sox will go out and hire from the outside for 2020. I’d hire Roenicke from within on an interim basis, take your lumps in 2020, then fire him and get someone from the outside to clean the slate. I’d also find out which players were the most culpable and purge them from the roster

Keep your head in the sand about the Skankees. Beltran played for them 2014-16. Do you think he magically realized he could steal signs in 2017?

I'd rather have a tainted World Series Championship than NO World Series Championship. It doesn't matter to me at all. I watched the games. I felt the joy (especially when the Sox crushed the Skankees). This doesn't hurt at all. Everybody cheats or tries. Some get singled out and punished to make an example.

They won't have to put an asterisk besides anything for the Skankees in 2017 or 2018 because they didn't win anything. They may have to put asterisks by any championships they won with Andy Pettitte and Roger Clemens, among others.

This isn’t college sports with stripped titles and vacated awards. In professional sports, fans and only fans call for asterisks and championships be labeled as dirty. And the reality is, every team cheats and everyone knows it. But a lot of fans go into denial about their own team...

@Marc_Normandin

Extremely blessed today because Joe Maddon has already been hired while the Red Sox have a manager vacancy

Lots of buzz that the Mets have to fire Beltran now.

Then the question becomes - should players who participated be punished? He was a player at the time. And I don't think MLB wants to go down that road.

I have not watched Mandalorian. Is baby Yoda the son of Yoda, or is he Yoda as a child?

It’s never explained...

Getting fired is NOT an MLB punishment. This is about the Mets distancing themselves from this scandal...

I believe that he is just a member of Yoda's species (a species that has never been named).

Manfred seems to have already answered that question.

But he also outed Beltran as a cheater and liar.

So he's f***ed anyway.

Mike Fiers got a World Series ring with the Astros, then ratted them out. What a hypocrite. He should give back his ring and his world series share if he thought it was so bad. The players ratting out the Red Sox should do the same.
