Seems like everyone else has signed above projections or for more years. I'm not sure why Bum's seemingly low contract value is the one that sets the market for Price or Eovaldi.

Certainly, it does not appear to help, but plenty of other deals seem to make Price and Eovaldi's deals not look as horrible as they seemed just weeks ago.

Agreed.... Jays would make their deal seem great. They sign bums all the time at ridiculous cost lol.

The only good thing about Price’s contract is the length. $32mill is still a lot of money to some people.

The big problem with Eovaldi’s contract is it is attached to an arm that just can’t stay healthy...

Both will need money attached or a salary dump in return as part of the deal.

No way we trade Betts & Price for Pollock alone. I would not trust that story. Betts is no AGon, but I guess one could compare this situation to the last Dodger dump, where we got nothing back, really.

Yes, I saw this story, but Swihart said MLB.com reported it as if it were a fact.

This story seems to be about speculation.

The screen shot in the Dodgers Nations piece is from MLB Tonight.

Swihart is a poor reporter (but enthusiastic fan).:)

Of some guys speculating or facts about actual deals in the works.

Look, I've made a few suggested trades on the trade simulator that includes Betts, Price and Pollock, but we get more back than that.

We aren't getting Seager for Betts straight up, so including Price is going in the wrong direction from reality.

Something like Betts & Price for Pollock, Maeda & Downs is likely closer to reality.

Baseball Trade Values calls the proposed trade only a Minor Overpay with the Red Sox getting a negative $13.8 million in value and the Dodgers a negative $10 million in value:

Baseball Trade Values gives a nearly dead-even assessment of this trade between the Red Sox and San Diego Padres:

CF Jackie Bradley Jr.

SP David Price

for

1B/OF Wil Myers

SP Anderson Espinoza

CF Michael Gettys

The Red Sox would save about $27 million AAV for luxury tax purposes in 2020 (and $17+ million in 2021 and 2022).

Gettys is a 24-year-old power-hitting center fielder who this year had 31 home runs and 91 RBI at Triple A despite a .251/.305/.517/.822 line in 551 plate appearances:

Of course Espinoza, who remains shy of his 22nd birthday, was a top Red Sox prospect who was traded to San Diego for Drew Pomeranz. Espinoza, who has not pitched since only months after the July 2016 trade, underwent his second Tommy John surgery last April.

How the hell? Guys, the Padres aren’t a large market club. They’re not taking on Price’s contract, even if it means they shed Myers. Their goal is to shed Myers, not take on a bigger, older albatross. And why would they want JBJ? They’ve got a cheaper, younger guy capable of being a plus defender in Margot.

The Padres have also signed Hosmer and Machado the last two years, clearly showing they are not averse to making an expensive splash here and there.

And they need pitching.

I've certainly seen more unlikely scenarios than the Padres being interested in Price...

It wasn't the above article or mlb tonight it's from last night and the proposal had a freaking guy removed from there 40 man and Pollock as the center of the trade it's a 4 for 2 and I'm freaking disgusted

Don't be disgusted until something actually happens.

Not necessarily.

I think they’d take on Price in that dea. Myers is the 5th outfielder on their depth chart and his contract leaps from $5 mill to $22.5 mill this year. If he was any good, they might want to move him but since he isn’t, the only way they move his 3 years $67.5 mill is either pay a huge chunk or take on another albatross. Myers is one of the most sunk costs in MLB. If they get a 2-2.5 fWAR pitcher for a net cost of $9.5mill per year, they might find it amenable.

The big stumbling block here is likely that Myers sucks.

I agree they won’t want Bradley. Franchy Cordero appears to be the starting CF with Margot slated for 4th OF/weakside platoon. They might not mind including Margot, but not to take back Bradley...

The Padres currently have an estimated 2020 payroll of only $150 million, according to Roster Resource:

https://www.fangraphs.com/roster-resource/payroll/padres

San Diego reportedly was in the market for an expensive Stephen Strasburg but with a trade of Wil Myers the Padres would land David Price for a net $9.5 million annually over three years. Jackie Bradley Jr. would cost a projected $11 million for a single season.

Wil Myers in his age 29, 30 and 31 seasons might be as productive as David Price in his age 34, 35 and 36 seasons.

Or not.

This year Price posted 2.3 fWAR and 1.8 bWAR while Myers posted 0.5 fWAR and a negative 0.3 bWAR. However, under the three previous seasons Price totaled 8.3 fWAR and 9.0 bWAR while Myers posted 6.0 fWAR and 7.8 bWAR.

Given their ages, their WAR productions might be about to merge … or not.

Can we all agree as of this morning the Boston Globe reporting Fenway Sports is now Ranked 3rd in Richest SPORTS franchises after there newest purchase .Enough of the poor John Henry BS .This guy can afford Mookie and Price without batting an eye .

Harmony is rather take on Jacoby Ellsbury than Meyers both should be selling Insurance.

Consider this comp of one-time All Star first basemen:

Over the past three seasons Wil Myers posted 4.0 bWAR in 393 games while Mitch Moreland posted 4.1 bWAR in 364 games.

Here are the 2020 Marcel projections for the 29-year-old Myers and the 34-year-old Moreland:

WM 479 PA, .244/.322/.444/.765, 58 R, 19 HR, 55 RBI, 24 2B, 2 3B, 13 SB, 47 BB, 143 K

MM 413 PA, .243/.320/.451/.771, 54 R, 17 HR, 61 RBI, 21 2B, 2 3B, 2 SB, 41 BB, 94 K

https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/myerswi01.shtml

https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/morelmi01.shtml

Of course the Red Sox would like to upgrade but that is a tall order if the Sox want to get under the luxury tax threshold.
