Carpin I should of said North of 270 is the ask you are spot on .Cole could get close to 300 .

Coincidentally, “north of 270” and “close to 300” are both ways to describe the number of days until Bloom makes a move ...

Patience is a virtue. Teams are building their Roster, if someone they have in mind specifically, might be gone, so someone that is signed or moved, might, benefit the Sox by letting the Off-Season come to them.

All they have right now is Salary to move, and every team knows this.

Relax.

Teams who really need pitching and miss out on the FAs they want may come back with a better offer for Price or Eovaldi.

I would say the Red Sox REALLY need pitching, but will not be part of the A list FA offerors. So if we then move Price and/or Eovaldi, where do we go to fill at least 2 , if not 3 slots. ? BTW, stay competitive ! As most prior seasons have shown, ultimately a team needs to run 6 to 8 starters out there to make a full season. And this does not address the muddled bullpen . When JBJr or (unlikely) Betts or Price and whoever move on, Chaim better get a couple pitchers in return. There are more assets available internally and externally, and cheaper in the position player vacancies than on the mound.

How competitive are we with Price & Eovaldi on the IL?

Some FAs I liked just signed, today.

Maybe something needs to be done, soon, before we run out of many good options.

Rendon to the angels for 245 for 7 years,

They still need pitching.

A price - madden reunion sounds good to me.

Price for Upton? Then trade Benintendi?

Price for Upton? Then trade Benintendi?

How about Price, Eovaldi, Chavis & Walden for Pujols, Upton and 3 prospects (Marsh OF, Adams OF, Jones 2B)?

The money?

BOS gets

Pujols owed $59M/2 ($24M/yr on Lux)

Upton owed $72M/3 ($21.2 on Lux)

$131M for 3+2 yrs ($45.2 lux)

LAA gets

Price owed $66M/3 ($31M lux)

Eovaldi owed $51M/3 ($17M on lux)

$117M for 3+3 ($48M on lux)

I think we'd have to ask for some money back to make this deal worth it... maybe a lot.

(Note: I don't know much about the prospects we get back, but the trade simulator gave them decent values.)

That makes no sense. Will the bullpen coach be pitching this year? Pujols has nothing left. At least Price and Eovaldi can still put up good seasons.

I was assuming the Angels kick in money to make the actual money a push ($14M over 3 years), but the lux tax money a big savings of about $8M a year for 3 years.

I also said, I don't know about the prospects. I'm assuming they are good, but if not, I wouldn't consider the deal.

I'm just throwing ideas out there, and I have little faith in Price and Eovaldi, so to me, it's all about creating budget space for Bloom to do his magic.

So we would have to replace 3 starters. Meanwhile the cheaper options are being priced at 9-10 million.

You must think Bloom is Merlin and Gandalf rolled into one LOL

Gammons reporting Price and Benny may be headed to whitesox

Price will be a pain, even after he is gone. The pain for Boston will be the other Red Sox player sacrificed to get rid of Price.

Some posters here are down on Benintendi for one down year, but forget how good he was for a title winner in 2018. Here's a reminder: in the past half century, only 18 AL outfielders age 23 or younger had a higher WAR than Benny's age 23 season of 3.9. Four did it twice: Betts, Trout, Henderson and cough, Crawford.

It wouldn't be surprising if a guy who was once the top prospect in baseball bounced back to post another near-4 WAR. The number of guys who did it twice by age 25 increases to include Reggie Jackson, Willie Wilson, Amos Otis, Nick Markakis, Lloyd Moseby, Austin Jackson, Bobby Murcer. Not all Hall of Famers, but All-Stars, durable and dependable...

Gammons is out of his mind unless the deal also includes Devers. Price and Beni for Madrigal and Vaughan would be a franchise altering decision from the White Sox and would immediately reinject life into the sox fanbase. I wouldn't take that deal if the money was exactly the same

Just for you: in this century, only 6 AL outfielders age 23 or younger had a higher WAR than Benny's age 23 season of 3.9 -- Trout, Betts, Austin Jackson, Sizemore, Markakis, Crawford.

In this past decade, only 3 AL outfielders age 23 or younger had a higher WAR than Benny's age 23 season of 3.9 -- Trout, Betts, Jackson.

But, but... Madrigal is only 5'7", 165, and will be disintegrating in pounds and inches as he ages!

Plus, second basemen are near nugatory in this age of shifting and launch angles. Now good third sackers, who often have to man an entire hot-side, are more valuable than ever.

McCaffrey: The Red Sox have taken a very thorough and methodical approach to the offseason. The Yankees made a huge splash at the Winter Meetings with the Cole signing. But Chaim Bloom says the worst thing the Sox can do now is be reactionary.

How could he be reactionary? The sox have gone public with their need to cut payroll. You don't reactionarily cut payroll, that is stupid. You can make reactionary signings, but that defeats the off-season's primary goal

Anything reactionary is stupid, but they certainly could make a reactionary payroll cut that hurt the team, like trading Bogaerts...
