The offered numbers are welcome here.

They’d be more welcome if they were correct. However, Cot’s has the Sox $10,000,000 closer to the threshold.

And yes, they have already included the deals for Peraza and Perez...

Cashman has been hoarding prospects and making big signings to fill gaps.

Cashman = Cherington

oh, no doubt. very similar. if there was a time to do a deadline deal for an SP for the NYY - Jul-2019 was the PERFECT time.

but your point is valid...Cherry had trouble pulling the trigger with any of his prospects too.

Price and devers to Atlanta for most of their top 10 prospects and we are gold.

Ps: Martinez to Texas for a bag of used baseballs and bloom can go shopping!

You're an idiot.

we were having a discussion about the trading deadline. specifically the 2019 deadline when the obvious need was SP but was not addressed.

thanks tho.

But, the point was that at the start of the season you Yankee fans were saying you had no weaknesses. Jacko was praising Happ and Paxton up and down. It turned out you did have a huge hole and you likely will have one next July. The pressure will be on to trade prospects to fill the gaps - just like we traded Beeks and Buttrey to fill holes.

exactly. thats why i was curious when carpin declared the NYY would do it this July when the clearly did nothing last July.

The specific Cot's numbers would be welcome as well.

Best. Trade. Ever.

The Mariners were true idiots.

To me, the best Sox trades since 1970 have been:

1) Pedro

2) Dodger dump

3) VTek & Lowe

4) Schilling

5) Beckett & Lowell

6) Chris Sale

Bloom is clearly looking to trade Price.

agreed. i was just responding to the declaration that "he has to go".

and this is coming from the biggest hater of the Price signing. we can reset and still have Price in the rotation....or IL......

Okay yeah I do agree with that ordering.

There are a number of reasons to root for Price... 's departure -- and I won't mention the PR damage his raggadocio causes to the Red Sox brand (after these parenthesis).

Most obvious is 96. The other is 208, which once achieved becomes the next: 100 (that's in millions saved; or not paid in penalties).

Now a lot of guys here would probably want that extra 100 invested in more pitching, but there won't be many attractive free agent arms in 2021. Trevor Bauer? I don't think Boston would send one mouth packing just to replace him with another. The best may be Robbie Ray, who'll be 29, but his career W-L is one game over .500, with a 4.11 ERA... in the NL. I also doubt the Sox intend on stockpiling 10-20 more mediocre arms.

Maybe the strategy is to give that extra 100 to Betts. Locking up star core position players and building around them may already be the plan.

Query: if you were GM of the Red Sox, and got under the you-know-what, what would you do with that extra 100 million dollars?

Moving Price, of course, also clears him off the books for 2021 and 2022.

Mine would be pretty similar.

2) Schilling

3) VTek & Lowe

4) Dodger dump

T5) Chris Sale/Beckett & Lowell

Amazing that none of them fall in the period 1970-1996.

Slocumb should be in the Red Sox HOF just for what he brought back in return.

Best. Trade. Ever.

The Mariners were true idiots.

Trivia: Of the deadline trades between the Boston Red Sox and Seattle Mariners in 1996-97, what player produced the most WAR for his new team?

Some trades work out better than others.:)
