They/re not going to be good offers. Since the goal here is to offload cash, I imagine the deal is not going to provide anything if substance or the immediate future and possibly not ever. If the Sox can unload 80-90% of that deal, we might get the second coming of Josh Tobias here...

I think Bloom would do that deal. I just don't think the market is there to move Price even for that.

The problem is the trade simulator says we can only unload 37.5% of it. (36/96)

No it doesn't. I just tried it and added $96mill and it accepted the deal...

2nd half of 2018 Price was 6-1, with a 2.25 ERA. He was vital for us when Sale went down, that year.

1st half last year he was 7-2 with a 3.24 in AL East.

Injury was the difference that's it.

Bumgarner, was not better if you go by half of 1 year, and other half of other.

This is why he still has value.

If he starts off 2020 at 7-2 with a 3.24 ERA, his value will be much greater in July.

That might very well be the case...

I have seen fans of other teams thinking there are about 10 teams that could be interested in Price. I’d just be surprised at a move.

It's not that Price isn't a good pitcher other teams can't use. He just isn't a $31mill pitcher anymore, and no one wants him for that kind of money...

It's all about how much the other team will have to pay after any balancing of the finances is completed.

She will choose safe- maybe Long Island City or Brooklyn.
LIC has very little infrastructure for residential living. Those who live in the luxury apartments by the water across from Manhattan don't need it, but for normal people there isn't much in the way of grocery stores, supermarkets, pharmacies etc. LIC has been built up somewhat over the last 10 years, but it has a long way to go as a residential neighborhood. It had been depressed industrial are for about 60 years before the most recent attempts to transform the area. It is still a depressing area to live unless you can afford a $1 million+ luxury apartment. Brooklyn would be a better choice, but not very convenient to midtown Manhattan. Astoria which is next to LIC should be considered. It offers more for residential living-- lot's of restaurants etc.

Thanks for the insights. We plan on going to Maine again this summer and will stop in NYC to check it out.

Her long time boy friend will be living with her, but the place still needs to be safe as the #1 priority.

Cost is a priority, but they will be splitting the rent, so they can pay more than I'd think is fair.

Don’t get too worked up about the safety aspect. 10,000,000 people live in NYC and manage to get through the day without getting killed. Joe Brady lives in the Bronx and he managed to live long enough to keep posting...

Fathers worry about their daughters living on their own, especially in a big city. She will be rooming with her boyfriend so that helps reduce a lot of anxiety.

No offense to NY that’s been done and if you want an apartment the size of a dog Cage and taxes that are rediculously high and well go for it I’m sure the subway and Uber’s are hella fun .Yeah no thanks .

There are several supermarkets in LIC (Urban Market, Key Foods, Food Cellar Market), plenty of pharmacies, delis and some great bars. It WAS a bit bleak but it is the area changing most in the NYC. It's light on restaurants but more and more were opening up each week. If you're near the river, there's also loads going on through spring to fall. Astoria is cool, but it's around the corner from LIC and LIC is much cleaner and quieter so you can enjoy best of both worlds. Depends what she wants but LIC is a much improved place and if she doesn't want to spend an hour or two in cramped subway cars getting in and from Brooklyn each day, then LIC offers a lot of plus points. The transport links there are superb.

The major downside to LIC is the there is a lack of community/culture there. It's a little clinical as it's so new, but again, something that seems to be improving with time. Every time I go back to visit I see a real difference there.

Really all comes down to what sort of thing she wants. If you want a quiet easy life LIC is perfect, but if I moved back to NYC I'd probably live in Harlem as I love the community and culture.

She'll be travelling Mon-Thur and may not have to be in the NYC office most Fridays. They offered to pay the difference in flight cost to Houston, if she wants to come home for a 3 day weekend.

She won't have a car. (Not sure about her boy friend.)

She'll have an expense account Mon-Thur, so I'm not sure the high cost of living there will be a big burden.

But if the Sox trade him on July 31, doesn't roughly 2/3 of his salary still count against the luxury tax?

If they just want him gone and to move as much money as possible, I don't think waiting is the goal here...

Yes, and there is no guarantee he will start off strong.

It would be nice to get back more for him, though, assuming he starts well.

If we traded JBJ, now, and traded Price in June, we'd be under the tax line.

If the Sox trade both now, depending on how much of Price's contract they eat and what if anything they get back, they could fill the spots with better players and possibly even be competitive while staying under the tax line and not resorting to players like my prediction of Cesar Puello...

Waiting to trade them comes with substantial risk. I'm not a fan.

Agreed. If both start slow or get injured, not only does it hamper the Sox chances this year, it also means they won't achieve any reset goals. Which in turn could mean the Sox are not players for Betts after this year...

It's like saying "let's not reset and still not make the playoffs." Fun!

I agree. I didn't mean my statement about Price's value possibly rising greatly with a good start to 2020 as a call to wait on trading him.

To me, he should be the number 1 trade priority with JBJ close behind.

You are overlooking the convenience of the bus stop to Rikers Island and that it is a drop-off spot for released Rikers Island inmates. They are spotted easily -- the people walking around with their personal effects in shrink wrap. I haven't worked there for 10 years, but I'd say that LIC is still more aptly described as desolate rather than quiet. If you can live in a luxury apartment down by the water, it is just fine -- that is where grocery stores are etc., but not so great for everyday people. Good luck looking for CVS or Walgreens. They are very scarce -- maybe one Walgreens. And there may be a CVS down by the high rent waterfront luxury apartments, but I couldn't swear to it. If you have some substantial means, it is nice living down by the water. Otherwise, the options aren't great.

This is when the Medical Staff comes into the picture. To me Eovaldi is the gamble, just because of production, and consistency, and history of injuries too.
