EROD has been outstanding and continues to be pretty much the most reliable SP in the rotation. Great job in a big game, they are all becoming big games, but when you face a team in the WC race, every win is a big deal. Go Sox!

Who was the clown who wanted to trade ERod a while back?

Speaking of circuses, Tropicana Field is nothing more than a large circus tent.

I saw the Sox opener there- the year of the closer-by-committee.

I actually thought the stadium was okay.

When he was 8-4, all I heard from one clown in here was how he hates watching EROD pitch and he's inconsistent and wild, etc. I'm like, the guy is outpitching all the big names on the staff, and has gotten better and better when some of the big names are simply s***ing the bed.

Nice to see all the Jacks, but Devers' dbl was the nicest hit of the game.

ERod da man!

Eovaldi even got his feet wet...in doo-doo, but hey, he's back!

Exactly!

I responded that he's also the cheapest starter in the rotation, is under team control for several years and we're heading for a nasty roster/budget crunch at some point.

Posted a few days ago that Erod is pitching like a grown man. He does not have many pitches in his arsenal but what he has is really good (change/FB) is what he really now depends on (ho-hum slider and cutter). But considering the sludge that passes for MLB pitching these days, it appears that if you can really throw two pitches and especially if those two are FB and Change, you are in business. Erod is clearly in business.

Not sure who is softer. Baseball or basketball player.

Well, in all fairness, no one is claiming that professional athletes are as bad-ass tough as those who spend most of their time on sports boards.

MADSTORK has been advocating we trade E-Rod for a while. Just a reminder of MADSTORK's baseball acumen.

That could have been me, I freely admit. For most of his time in Boston, I have thought of ERod as unprofessional despite his having a pretty good repertoire. Too many walks, too many pitches, and a reluctance to cover 1b on grounders hit to the right. We saw most of that last night, as well as some hard hit balls for outs.

Nevertheless, ERod boosters have every reason now to be ERod boasters because he sure looks like the most reliable--and lowest paid--starter on the roster.

Only Porcello has more pitches--especially that big curve--in his repertoire, but ERod's is probably better. His fastball definitely works well, and so does his changeup, which helps against all those righty bats he faces. His cutter is decent, ditto his slider. Our $31M starter Price no longer throws a slider or curve.

The hitters are making it easier to succeed with a smaller repertoire as well. If you can really command a couple of pitches you can really drive most of this generation of hitters nuts. They are swing happy for the most part. If you can command a couple of pitches AND pitch inside, now you are really talkin'. You could be on the way to a Cy Young the way this generation of hitters approaches their AB's.

He did it on purpose. He wanted to show us what not to do if he was closing :)

I have to say, I am legitimately surprised that we won that game. I hate feeling that way, but I have my moments. LOL

Great job by ERod and the offense.

Let's go!

Let's go!

After being one-hit, I expected a big offensive outburst.

It's our MO this year.

Maybe tonight we lose 2-1.

BTW, we are lucky to be playing the Rays in a time when they are struggling.

The Rays just lost 2 of 3 to the CWS and 5 out of their last 6.

They are 7-9 in their last 16 games.

They were 9-11 before that.

16-20 in their last 46 games before last night's loss.

It's funny. After Cashner gave up 4 runs to the Os, I was still sure we would win that game. I had no doubt that we would score against the Os pitching. No such luck.

It is good that we're catching the Rays when they're struggling. Hopefully, we can take advantage of that over the next 2 weeks.

+100 :)

Not much of a Ben fan, but he did make that one great trade in late 2011 that moved Beckett and others (AGon)--a lot of salary--to the LA Dodgers, which I think made the 2013 success possible. He also signed, however, Hanley Ramirez and Pablo Sandoval. Right now he is the VP for Baseball Operations in Toronto.

DD has also made some good moves and gets credit for 2018. But I'm not so happy with the big bucks for the rotation which is not delivering this year and had issues before this year.

I think I was/am on board with every move that Dombrowski made from 2018 to present.

My main beef with him is the depletion of our farm system.

I do not blame Dombrowski for the state of our team this year. He can't control what happens on the field.

Travis Shaw was a very bad deal.

David Price was a really bad deal.... Happens to every team. For what he has given us for what we are paying him he has massively under performed. Thank god he came up big last year in the post season otherwise...... yikes

I am not seeing that. He was an overpay, but he is still a top quality starter over his tenure with the Red Sox thus far except for the season cut short by injury.

It's the price tag that hurts. With his injuries and his low inning starts we massively over paid for him. He is a good pitcher there is no doubt about it but not for what we paid for him. That is Ace like money and right now he can't even go more than 5 innings. Like I said, I am glad he finally produced in the playoffs last season because if not 99 percent of this board would want nothing to do with Price. I was hoping for a 2012, 2015 type season from Price but he haven't seen it. Again he has been good absolutely..... I am not saying he has been a bust but for the money we gave him he is far cry from what we thought we would get. At least in my opinion.

It not an awful deal where DD rolled craps. That's what he got with trading Shaw. That's what Ben got with Panda, Rusney Castillo, and Hanley.

Ya fair enough. Maybe I was expecting too much. Probably a me thing lol. Price has been solid I won’t complain too much.
