Andy “I’m cheering for the St Louis Blues” Benintendi can take a hike. Deal him and deal him fast. I should have known that he was no good the moment he said that he was a Blues fan. Can’t trust a guy like that.

That's his name. I was referring to the song Benny and the Jets. I'm doing a lot of 'splaining tonight.

I wonder if Elton is aware of all the sports puns people interchange with that song.

If this team can’t beat the f***ing blue jays then what’s the point of acquiring someone? Sell, Sell, Sell,Sell!!!!

Exactly. If I am John Henry watching this team night after night I am thinking why spend another dime on it? Its a lost cause when the guys out there aren't focused. The talent is there to win games, but the focus is not. Frankly, if I am JH I am planning for 2021 or thereabouts already.

+1 Move Mookie & Beni.. load up the farm system and plan for 2021. Get a legit power hitting first baseman and some relief pitching. We have shortstop and third base on lock. I would also talk to JD’s people and see where they’re at. Make no mistake about it though. This season is over. I’m on to 2020 at this point.

I missed most of last night's game because of family arriving for the 4th, but did listen to the early part when the Sox took the lead.

I agree the loss is dismaying, that no way the Sox will catch the Yankees, and that, as bad as the bullpen can be, we are seeing other problems--the rotation is way too inconsistent, and Betts and JDM, both of whom are at the top of the lineup, are well down from last year. Last year Mookie's OPS with men in scoring position was over 1.200. This year it's under .800. And we saw that last night.

I would be reluctant to "blow up" this team, but also recognize that the payroll will need to be trimmed, if not this year, certainly next year. No way can DD keep everyone.

DD's biggest moves have been to spend lavishly on starting pitchers. That worked last year even though Pomeranz bombed and Porcello wasn't worth his $21M. But this year Sale ($15M), Price ($30M), Porcello ($21M), Eovaldi ($17M), and ERod ($5M) have collectively not earned their pay. Their combined WAR is 5.3, which translates to $16.6M per WAR of 1.

Agreed on all this.

Also if they could maybe get some of our rotation to go more than.... I dunno.... 5 friggin innings!!!! Even the best bullpen in baseball will struggle when they constantly have to be out there for half the game.

You cannot punt 2020 with the guys you have being paid what they are being paid. You just cannot do that. If you deal off Beni and Betts it will be with other deals in mind to make the 2020 team better

A lot can happen from here till 2020. Everyone is frustrated with this team as they should be, but we are still just 2 games out of a playoff spot. If this team wins this series against the Jays and Detroit and we are back in a playoff spot and continue to compete in the second half people won's say too much. I comment on players and if they suck or not like Sale or Mookie. But I'll hold off comments till after the season to see what this team does.

I know your a Yankee fan and it is your year. You also make sense on this. We stood pat this year, even though there were some weak spots. We knew second base was unlikely to be covered, we also knew that our relief pitching was worse this year. Our backup catcher was a poor hitter and our center fielder was erratic. It was difficult to correct this problems without exceeding the second tier of the competitive balance tax, so for whatever reason, we did nothing to correct those issues.

So this season we suffered some injuries to valued players (all teams do) and others have been off of last years strong showings. We have also had a few guys step it up. Bottom line is we are playing uninspired ball, with aging starters who in general are not pitching well and not eating innings and our BP has been overused and shows it.

We do need to make major moves this year and hope to improve the team enough for the 2020 season. Most of the fans have a good idea of the changes necessary and I hhope DD has the savy the support necessary to make moves to strengthen us for 2020.

Who is pitching today? MLB.com shows Vealsquez, but the betting sites are showing Porcello.

This is actually pretty funny. Its like MLB has looked at the Federal Gov and decided "Hey if they can have a cluster every day, why can't we".

So last night, the big conjecture was whether Stroman would pitch. Stroman seems to be shown everywhere. But I guess what looked pretty much like Neck-tat pitching for us is now up in the air?????

Could it be that the Jays deciding on Stroman forced Cora's hand in his view forcing him to stuff Porcello into this start. Wouldn't this be Rick's regular turn anyway and was Cora trying to give him a break?

Why wouldn't Porcello pitch? He pitched 5 days ago. Should be fine to go today one would think.
