I know they never would, but could you imagine the return he would bring with 4 years of control left and his age only being 22? His return would be massive if the sox truly blew it all up and rebuilt

There's 39 games remaining and a lot can happen. One of those things that could happen is Devers being voted AL MVP. How ridiculous would it be that the AL MVP didn't get picked for the vapid All-Star game?

Certainly possible, although a lot of ballots do come with the name “Mike Trout” pre-checked.

But is Devers even the top candidate on the Red Sox?

No doubt X-man is having an all-around great season and he, also, would be a strong consideration. Interesting, that he was a last minute replacement pick for the all-star game.

You don't trade 4 years of a 22 y/o to rebuild. You trade for guys like that.

Only teams looking to be bad for 2-3 years and then good 3-4 years later think like that, and even that is a rare trade by them.

I agree. I’m just saying, could you believe the return?

Stop drooling. He's not going to the Yankees.

Sometimes the modern fan thinks too much as a GM and not enough as a fan.

When we were watching guys like Lynn and Rice and Dewey, we were just enjoying them, we weren't thinking about what we might be able to get back for them.

If Devers pulls the Red Sox into the wild card game you have to consider him. Otherwise it’s Trout’s year.

Of course I would want him in NY. He'd be a perennial 40HR hitter in YS

My grandmother would be a perennial 40 HR hitter in Yankee Stadium.

Of course I mean my maternal grandmother, as she was a left-handed pull hitter with line drive power. My grandmother on my dad’s side was just an old lady with no real hitting skills at all, but did have lots of doiles and hard candy and a vicious 12-6 curve ball...

The old grandma hard candy. Kinda miss it

Would you trade Gleyber Torres for him?

Why would we?

Didn't ask if we would. I don't see the two teams swapping young superstars. Just seeing what he thinks the price should be...

Smallest Outfields in MLB

1. Fenway Park (Red Sox)

2. Progressive Field (Guardians)

3. Citizens Bank Park (Phillies)

4. Great American Ball Park (Reds)

5. Yankees Stadium (Yankees)

https://community.fangraphs.com/complete-outfield-dimensions/

While Fenway is the smallest overall, there is a 32 foot wall in left and a 17 foot wall in center. Those make it more of a doubles park and many a line drive to left that would be out of a lot of parks can end up as singles.

Yankee Stadium is more of a home run park because the wall is what, 9 feet high?

Love Devers, but nobody is capable of saving this pitching staff.

YS right field is a hitter's wet dream, can't disagree with that. But what's the counterpoint, that Fenway's left field isn't super hitter friendly because it knocks down some line drives that could be HRs? It also gifts some pop fly HRs and doubles that would be outs in most other stadiums. There's a reason most hitters take aim at it, because even a not-so-well struck ball can get you a hit off the backboard. Anyway, my point is "kettle calling the pot black" or whatever the hell that saying is.

the Wall actually creates outs at 2b or has a runner scampering back to 1b on a lazer hit into it. it, in fact, does take away HR's. you know how many HR's the yankees RF porch takes away? none.

it is an embarrassment to baseball.

Ah but it’s one way to beat the dreaded shift...
