Nothing much is going to happen, so just live with it.

I totally agree. As I've said before it is all about the LUX Tax and "keeping your powder dry" to keep the ability to resign the core players such as Mookie Betts. I believe they believe they have an excellent chance to win a wild card spot and are prepared to take their chances going that route. We fans may blather but they have their strategy which is long term and they are going to stick to it.

The Sox can stay in contention simply by beating up on the garbage teams , of which there are plenty . At some point , they will have to show that they can beat the good teams . As far as D.D. pushing the panic button; maybe if he was a little more concerned during the off season , we wouldn't even be talking about that now .

I heard the same thing last year, until the playoffs started.

In 2018, we were...

3-4 vs HOU

11-8 vs TBR

10-9 vs NYY (but it took a late season sweep to get plus)

4-3 vs MN

2-4 vs OAK

3-4 vs CLE

33-32 All

In 2019, we are 12-18 vs NYY, TBR, HOU, CLE & OAK. We have not played MN

We're talking a 3 game swing (making us 15-15), and we'd have the same winning % as last year.

The Red Sox have yet to play the surprising Texas club that maintains a current lead over the Sox.

As great as we started last year, especially in April when the Rays sucked, here were are records against top teams on July 31st:

(We did not play CLE before July 31st and went 3-3 vs them afterwards)

9-4 vs TBR

4-3 vs MN

2-2 vs HOU

4-5 vs NYY

2-4 vs OAK

21-18 vs all (12-14 vs all minus TBR, who sucked first half)

I remember we didn't have a great record against the winning teams..... So that is why I don't want to go too overboard with changes right now. Making the playoffs is our goal right now. Then focus on winning the Wild Card game and we go from there.

Before the Yankee sweep in August, we heard this same thing all along.

Once we make the playoffs, I will like our chances.

Agreed! In my opinion this series against Texas is HUGE. We haven't played many average teams yet. Very good teams and very bad teams. I suppose Oakland and even the White Sox (somehow they are playing well) This Texas team should be a very interesting series.

Myself I will truly be surprised if we do not make it into the top 5 by record and in so doing miss the 2019 post season entirely. I suppose it could happen. I would still be surprised if not shocked if it does happen.

As to what happens after that I really don't care who you put out on the mound, a one game play-in is as much a crap shoot as you are ever going to see in MLB baseball. Beyond that, the winner is at least in a series albeit a short series. Even if the winner has used its best rotation arm to win the play-in game, they are still at that point in a series.

I belong to the school that says a panic button is irrelevant this year because DD should stick with what he has, which is pretty close to the team that won everything last year.

I love when moonslav trots out stats that argue the Sox aren't really doing that badly, but me, I'm worried because I don't think our rotation is all that good, which then puts pressure on the bullpen and the lineup.

Yep, the only ones who will be pushing any panic buttons are some of the fans.

i dont think he panics for another month. July 10th seems like a good deadline to start the "panic" process.

I agree with A7 & TD on the causes at the moment. but i believe we can go on a tear with this team as-is.

color me hopefully optimistic.....

I just don’t see it. “As is” this is a .500 ball club if I ever saw one. They will win and lose their share of games and finish 5-10 games over .500 for the season as is... that will not be good enough. If they would be fully healthy then the WC shouldn’t be an issue but if the queen had brass she’d be king right?

If DD wants some results this season, he needs to make a few moves. The time to panic and plan is right now.. definitely in June. Does anyone see this team contending for the division vs Tampa Bay/NY with their current roster?

I don't see them contending to be honest but I do see them making the second Wild Card spot and with Sale pitching the Wild Card game we can beat anyone. Making the playoffs is our goal right now and once we get in anything can happen.

Yes, I do.

You are totally basing your opinion on what you have seen so far this year. Look at the history of MLB. Teams often have better (or worse) second halves.

We have a very good team, on paper, and I expect us to start playing like it very soon.

With the struggles and injuries we continue to have when does changes start to be made? I know all this will be a moot point if we run off 6-8 games in a row... however, we need to call a spade a spade here and be honest with ourselves. What will be done if anything and what changes can we expect to be made. Who can we afford to go out and get to try and make a late run. Will it be pitching help or in the way of a bat in the lineup somewhere. In my opinion (which doesn't matter) we need a lead-off guy who can steal some bases and be the guy that allows Mookie to have more RBI chances when hes's actually putting the ball into play and not popping out the right center all day. When it comes to the BP, some guys continue to get looks and continue to piss away leads or close games... can and will SW and Johnson actually make a difference to ignore the help we need?

He has already panicked twice.

Once in DFAing Swihart so soon, even though it should have been Vazquez and Leon to start the season.

Secondly in making Chavis our then full time second baseman when he clearly wasn't ready, according to their words.

That said, this is no time to panic. It's time to give the players a quick kick in the butt, add a pen arm or two, and carry on.

Can you remember anything of significance Bill Belichick has ever said at a press conference?

Yes, one thing. "Tom Brady will be our starting QB next Sunday, and forevermore."

A breath of fresh air.

I'm with you all the way.

Other than selling low on Benintendi, which of those players will bring back a “useful piece”?

Even with his recent hot streak, Bradley still has miserable season-long Numbers, an $8.9mill salary, and one year left to earn even more money via arbitration.

The Sox might consider moving Porcello, who is their best chance at getting anything worthwhile...

I'm pretty much with you and others. There is no real value on the current roster that will bring a sparkplug, especially in June. As you note, Porcello may be of value to a contender who suffers an arm injury in their rotation . The Sox would give up high side potential and cost control with Benintendi, although he may get dangled or at least asked for by others. Not too likely part of a deal. JBJr is not cheap this year or next, and entering his #30 year of age. I think they would let him go depending on the deal. Hembree plus another player could be of interest to some for 2 AAA, top 100 pitching prospects.

Here's some with literally no independent trade value ( only package deal guys) : Pearce, Lin, Travis, Nunez, Brewer, Thornburg ( when back),Brasier, Johnson, Wright, Poyner, All are currently on the 40 man roster.

A few maybe of independent value: Chavis, Moreland (when back), Marco Hernandez, Holt, Walden (?) . Of these, I think the FO would want all through next Spring except for Moreland.

It is not panic time until at least mid-July but watch the Rangers series closely for any sign of Wild Card life.

The loss of Eovaldi was huge, because for the first time in years we went into the season without a 6th starter/long reliever. Result: a 4-man rotation which was pretty damn weak early on and is presently the strong point of the team. (Question: Did we overuse Eovaldi in the playoffs??)

On the offensive side, the lack of hitting and timely hitting by Betts and Benintendi is one big difference from last season.

But I'd be truly surprised if we don't make the playoffs with from 92-94 wins.

To get to 93 wins, they need to go 60-36, a .625 pace. This will be a challenge for this challenged group based on the first 66 games.

Currently, the Rangers hold the 5 slot with a .531 winning rate. That equates to 86 wins.

86 wins! And, nobody expects them to be in the playoffs.

At our current rate, we are projected to win 84 games, Cleveland 82 and Oakland 81.

I like our chances.

We might just need to win 86-90 wins to make the playoffs. My guess is 89-90 makes it. At 89, we'd need to go 55-41 (57%).

Here's what would be more fun than winning the AL East. For Cora to manage so close to the vest, and with plenty of rest times, so that the Sox end up in a tie for the second WC, win that one, and the play-in game, then run the table over the next 11 laughing all the way home. Make the fans positively crazy, then deliver. OH WTF Cora, you are sharp !

How about NOW?!? Ugly loss tonight. The team is about to dip below .500

How about.... NOW!

Sick of the vanilla bats, the vanilla fielding, and the lack of situational hitting. This team does not deserve to wear the colors of the Boston Red Sox right now... sorry.

If the Red Sox fall short of a split of the four-game series with Texas the Sox will need to work actively on a concurrent plan.

Now Now NooooooooooWwwwwww!!!!!

What do you think about trading for someone like Ken Giles? Toronto is going nowhere this year.. and neither are we the way this train wreck looks right now.

Whom should the Red Sox trade for a season and a half of Ken Giles with his 2019 salary of $6.3 million?

I would start with asswipe Matt Barnes, and offer to pay both his salary as well as Giles. Then throw in Brasier and his pittance to sweeten the deal.

Can the Red Sox make a competitive offer if the Blue Jays make Ken Giles available?

Toronto is gunna want young arms for Giles.

Barnes won’t get that done. Although I’d rather keep Barnes to be honest. I do trust him in a spot for some reason.. just a gut feeling. Weird I know. We don’t want to let go of Workman and Barnes imo.. the rest are straight up bait.
