May need it to win this game.

d-money's been talking about this series for two weeks, and it's finally here. I hope Springer goes 5 for 5 every night but we still get the sweep. Win. Dance. Repeat. x2

Tyler D's comment up above reminds me that these days I pretty much think any Sox game, even a loss, is preferable to no game at all. And a tough series like this one is better still.

This hitting, beyond question, is coming around. Since the losses (2-1 and 5-2) on April 27-28, the Sox scored 1 or 0 runs once, a 4-1 loss at Baltimore. During those same 15 games (29 April to the present), the Sox are 12-3.

Rotation is coming around, but still can be scary--thus ERod's 7th Wed night, Porcello's 1st May 11. Bullpen has had 3 days off in the last 10 days and should be rested.

In Fenway and against right Cole, I would play JBJ and, of course, Leon.

The Sox have won the last 5 games Porcello has started with Leon behind the plate. Before that, Porcello had 3 straight losses with Vazquez and Swihart (1 game) behind the plate. CERA fans, take note.

Red Sox vs Astros, so 2018ish. Congrats to the Bruins for Carpe Diem'ing the Carolina Canes. B's reminded me of the 2018 RS in the playoffs and WS. No let up when the opponent is willing to lose to you.

Porcello is looking more and more confident as he goes. If he could just shake that one bad inning he seems to have he would be one of the best pitchers in the league right now. He rebounds very nice however after having a bad inning. Tonight however is a different story against Houston. They can score and score often. Porcello will need to be near perfect and hopefully deliver 6 strong innings. And of course..... the offense needs to show up. As mentioned, this team can get double digits on the board. But so can Houston, and they will be hungry for revenge from the playoffs.

Altuve is on the I.L. Verlander will not pitch in this series . Good opportunity here . Yankees are playing the Rays over the weekend . Sox just have to win and they will gain ground on at least one of them.

This is how the Sox and the Astros match up since the Sox finally decided to start playing.

Red Sox Notes‏ @SoxNotes 10m10 minutes ago

The Sox and Astros begin a series tonight.

MLB rankings since 4/29:

Win % – BOS 1st (.800, 12-3), HOU 2nd (.750, 12-4)

Run Diff – BOS 1st (+63), HOU 2nd (+59)

Runs/Game – BOS 1st (7.3), HOU 2nd (7.1)

OBP – BOS 1st (.382), HOU 2nd (.364)

HR/Game – HOU 1st (2.4), BOS T-2nd (1.9)

It should be a great series.

Interesting start for Rick who usually has a "probing" first inning. That would not be a great plan here.

1. George Springer ® DH

2. Alex Bregman ® 3B

3. Michael Brantley (L) LF

4. Carlos Correa ® SS

5. Josh Reddick (L) RF

6. Yuli Gurriel ® 1B

7. Aledmys Diaz ® 2B

8. Robinson Chirinos ® C

9. Jake Marisnick ® CF

1. Andrew Benintendi (L) LF

2. Mookie Betts ® CF

3. J.D. Martinez ® RF

4. Mitch Moreland (L) 1B

5. Xander Bogaerts ® SS

6. Rafael Devers (L) 3B

7. Michael Chavis ® 2B

8. Christian Vazquez ® C

9. Eduardo Nunez ® DH

0-3 disaster; 1-2 disappointing; 2-1 still improving and gaining; 3-0 spectacular, best of all possible outcomes

Nunez at DH in a key series shows just how bad the 3 man bench is for the Sox this year. Normally Pearce would fill that hole, or Holt. It isn't going to be Oscar Hernandez, so in effect we have a 2 man bench tonight, including JBJr

Cora said , Nunez had a better chance to make contact on Cole.

He might. But he is taking so much out the defense than his offense might can overcome.

Mookie does not read balls hit to CF as well as JBJ does. in fact that is one of the things that distinguishes a CF. The balls the CFer has to make plays on are harder to read than the balls hit to LF or RF. Mookie goes back to CF OK. Not great, but OK. Coming in is an issue for him.

Can’t honestly say I have never played Center Field position before but I’ve heard it’s a tough position to play.... then again I’ve never played outfield at all lol.

I noticed that also on both of the two initial singles. They appeared catchable with a Reddick type effort, but on the other hand a miss would be a triple. Also, any questioning comment of Betts abilities gets you in Sox fan jail.

Porcello seems unable to throw pitches down.

Thta's why they call the results of pitching up in the zone , Porcellos
