Usn't it time this kid got his own thread? 5'10"? Looks 6'. Most impressive day, aside from the Lansdonn street bomb, was th 3 BB and a hP the same game. Not swinging at everything, that's for sure.

I feel as confident about thi guy as I did about Mookie that dayI saw him his first year at in Ft Myers!

the ball seems to jump off his bat. i do wonder if it is the PeD's. hard for me to root for him because of that stigma that will forever be attached to him...

Good bat, not great glove. We'll see what happens once there is a substantial scouting report on him. We'll see if he can make the adjustments.

good point. probably not much of a book on him yet. once the holes are found how does he respond? hopefully that isnt the only thing to keep our interest this summer....

When does Pats camp start? :(

I really really really don't want another 2014 or 2015. No fun at all.

Mr. Chavis will certainly get a big opportunity to show what he can contribute to the underperforming team he has joined. Lots of potential and inexperience that will make his transition to an everyday regular a bumpy ride, possibly including ups and downs to/from Pawsox. Right now, the team has the options on him so he's movable. One problem is the logjam in front of him, specifically at 2B. You cannot stall Michael's progress by carrying him on the bench.

Therefore the Sox need to deal with Pedroia's situation, Nunez's problems, and Brock Holt, all 3 of whom cost a good deal more than MLB minimum Chavis. I do not think Pedroia will voluntarily retire this year so looking at possible 60 day IL, if he can't truly comeback. Nunez may be a surprise DFA , with Holt resuming his utility role. Tzu Wei Lin better have kept his apartment in Pawtucket.

Look for Chavis to be a bigger factor post A-S game when some of these decisions will manifest themselves.

Here's a preliminary scouting report. Do not throw him FB's; sliders and change up curves until he shows he can hammer them.

yup, you have stated you would prefer to be competitive every year and let the chips fall where they may....im on record stating i will take 3 last place finishes for a parade every 4th year. i have to grin and bear it if we continue down this path....at least the tix for my annual Fenway excursion will be cheaper....silver linings

This should be what you do for any MiLB coming up. Make them prove they can hit the offspeed stuff.

Anything under 81 wins is unacceptable to me.

I am not happy with the PEDs stigma either.

It seems that his bat is ready, but he was not ready defensively.

He's in the same boat as Devers was. Devers has not taken the next step yet, like we all hoped he would, either offensively or defensively. Not saying that he won't, but he has not progressed much since being called up.

Perhaps we are doing these youngsters a disservice by calling them up before they are ready.

The Sox will make the playoffs.

A wide range of outcomes is possible for Michael Chavis.

Chavis made his MLB debut when he was 16 days older than Will Middlebrooks was when the latter made his debut.

The Red Sox had drafted each out of high school five years earlier as a righthand-hitting infielder with power.

Their pre-callup minor league numbers were similar, including their concerning K/BB ratios.

Nevertheless I am on board with Chavis.

I agree. I have to take a deep breath every time he gets a hit. I wish there were some way to gauge how long the effect of PED's remain in a player's system so the "user" could be suspended for a commensurate amount of time. But there isn't.

I feel a bit like a hypocrite because if he were wearing any other team's uni I'd be thinking that he shouldn't be allowed in baseball yet. And yet... I have to cheer for him because.. he's one of ours.

He did his time, now its his time to shine!

But did he do his time? If MLB is going to give suspensions shouldn't the point of the suspension be to remove any advantage a player gets by used PED's?

I agree that he "did his time" as MLB stipulated. I'm just not at all sure he (and every other PED user) didn't continue to reap the benefits of the PED's even as they returned to the game.

Who goes when Nunez and Holt are back?

Can’t send Chavis down now.

Lin will go down when the first guy comes back. We may have to get creative to keep Chavis up if and when all 3 (Pedey, Nunez & Holt) are healthy... maybe put Pearce or Moreland on the IL.

It may be the end of the line for Pedey or Nunez....coming sooner or later.

I would expect Nunez to be DFA'ed or 60 day IL before the FO would force Pedey to 60 days or "retired number" status. Pearce on the IL is possible as you state.

He’s apparently a very overly religious kid too. Nothing like believing god will bring you success while you’re jabbing a needle in your ass

What do you think the odds would be on a potential bet of the number of professional athletes competing today who are and have been cheating without being caught might be? Wouldn't it be nice if we lived in a world where no one cheated and everyone played fair. My oh my, I wonder how many are cheating today and getting away with it? Just kidding - I don't wonder about that at all. And how about this kid Chavis anyway saying that "everybody knows that hitting is contagious" - I wonder if he polled the analytical gurus before making this statement.

I'm truly enjoying watching him do his thing. He doesn't live in a perfect world.

If he maintains a proper workout regimen, he can legally maintain the majority of any bulk that was added. But if he is maintaining through a legal unaided workout, is he still “reaping the benefits of PEDs”?

IMO - Yes.

IMO - Yes.

So should any player who tests positive be placed in a medically-induced coma for the duration of their suspension in order to expedite the muscular atrophying process? Or can we as fans just stop attaching stigmas to players even after they are no longer using?

Michael Chavis has the edge over Will Middlebrooks in a comparison of the first nine games of their respective MLB careers:

MC 35 PA, 28 AB, 5 R, 3 HR, 8 RBI, 6 BB, 8 K, .286/.429/.643/1.071

WM 41 PA, 39 AB, 5 R, 3 HR, 11 RBI, 2 BB, 10 K, .282/.317/.641/.958
