Cashman hired a guy with no managerial experience and it seems clear Boone has learned little from his mistakes. His bullpen decisions are somewhat bizarre.

Boone is a disaster.

It's still only April 1. These two teams are too talented to be held down by poor managerial decisions and small sample sizes. I'm sure the standings will be flipped by Memorial Day.

Oh yeah. But Boone really is a doofus when it comes to the pitching changes.

Agreed. The Yanks left a ton of baserunners on. Last year, we started slow then caught fire and kept rolling. It also happened the year before. I am not worried about the long term viability of this team. I am worried that our manager is a doofus and continues to play games like we have a 20 game lead in the division. Last night, Britton was available, down 1 in the top of the 8th inning. Instead, he goes with the rookie Tarpley and we give up a couple runs. Predictably, we score a run in the 9th but cannot score the 3 needed to extend the game. Its the same narrative as the day before. Down 2 late, he tries to coax a second inning out of Holder. The defense and Holder allow 2 runs. We then score two runs and lose by 2.

His dipshittedness will really pay dividends in the playoffs, but the regular season will breeze by for the Yanks.

I'm not really sure what they saw in Boone in the first place. He never impressed me in the booth. He didn't seem like one of those "future coaches" in his playing days. Did Cash pick him or someone else?

I think he's Cash's boy all the way.

He is an analytics guy. Girardi was a traditional guy who liked using matchups. Big difference. Although for an analytics guy, he sure likes to stick to the traditional fast guy leading off thing too much. Gardner sees pitches, but then goes to the pine. He is no longer fit for starter duty or leadoff duty

Yeah, I don't know what analytics system would advocate Gardner leading off. 10 years ago sure.

It’s so cold there, my guess is they don’t want any more injuries. Sanchez and Bird are injury prone. I get the reasoning. It’ll be warmer tomorrow and the start time is earlier

Two straight games where his splitter is down in the zone. When it’s down, he’s a ground ball machine. When it isn’t, he’s very fly ball prone, which is not good in this park

Heck of a game from Tanaka. Limited hard contact. Seriously limited balls in the air. His issue last year was his inconsistent splitter. The way he throws it, he splits the dish rather than go to the corners. His goal is to have it diving down and out of the zone. When he doesn’t throw it right, it ends up middle, middle and goes a long way. When it’s on, he gets a ton of chases. When the hitter starts protecting against it, he can elevate his 4 seamer and go high low. Then he can throw the 2 seamer in to righties and the slider away and he’s practically unhittable. But he needs that splitter to be golden, and through 2 starts, it has been

Unfortunately great pitching is only effective when your team can score a few runs. And with so many bench/AAA players in the lineup now, I fear this may be the norm until next month.

Reporter : Did Chapman suck ? Booney : A little bit . Reporter: Are you concerned ? Booney : A little bit . Reporter : are you really a doofus ? Booney : Kind of . I mean a little bit .

Yeah Chapman was off, but he doesn't pitch with the same intensity/focus/whatever the hell you want to call it when it's not a save situation. Boone still hasn't realized this. It's probably for the best he coughed it up in the ninth though, I don't think the offense was capable of plating another run and that could've been a very long and exhausting game and loss.

bzk, that's not very healthy thinking when you're playing at home against the Tiggers.

Maybe so, but the offense wasn't hitting a lick last night. Everyone looked cold and lost and ready to go home. Hopefully today is a different story.

I’ll chalk it up to a bad inning. No issue with his acquisition if he stays healthy

That's like expecting Tulo to stay healthy all season.

I just thought Sheffield could have been a trade piece for a better pitcher.
