Marco Gonzales (13-9, 4.50 ERA in 2018. 1-0, 4.50 ERA in 2019, 0 world series rings).

7 PM EST start time on Thursday. Game will be nationally broadcasted on ESPN.

Figured I'd get this thread started now with opening day coming soon and I'm assuming opening day is my duty after being he clinching World Series game 5 thread starter. I'm working during this game so I don't want to forget.

It is still very odd to me that opening day is on a Thursday in March, and that the Red Sox start on a West Coast trip, but whatever. I don't mind it, I'm just happy for Baseball to be back. Go Sox!

NOTE: i have retired last season's Avatar. she was amazing as there has never been a year when the same Sox Girl got us through an entire season. But this girl just knew how to put up W's. I almost pulled the trigger on her a couple times but in the end she prevailed and was a small part of getting us a parade. she is going out on top.

lets see how this new one does......

Chris Sale indeed has one more World Series ring than Marco Gonzales, who last season posted an ERA of 4.00 (not 4.50), finishing 23rd among all starters in fWAR, just ahead of Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke:

Trivia: Which pitcher has more postseason wins: Chris Sale or Marco Gonzales?

:)

Let's have a fun series ... and a fun season.

I'm really hoping that after last season, the doom prophets will hold off on their prognostications after every loss until at least August.

Good one!

My guess is, as soon as we fall behind 3-0 in a game, we'll here it.

Cora announces opening day line-up:

1. Beni

2. Betts

3. Devers

4. JD

5. Bogey

6. Moreland

7. Nunez

8. JBJ

9. Vaz

Devers 3rd is definitely interesting. He should see some nice pitches to hit between Mookie and JD.

Alright I'm back y'all! Wearing a Sox hat and windbreaker to and from class today, on top of a Betts t-shirt! I'm just glad to see baseball back, although I agree that it's a little early. Also nice to see the rest of the UConn community repping their teams as well. Definitely more Sox than Yankees so far, but I've also seen a great deal of Phillies fans. Enjoyed my trip to Fenway South just one week ago today, so I really felt like baseball came back last week, but that doesn't count.

Win. Dance. Repeat. x3 (including Games 4 and 5 of the WS)

Howdy, folks. Long-time observer/rare poster here, may try to be a little more active about posting this season. Psyched for baseball although the closer situation worries me. I'm usually a cheapskate -- even on the ownership's behalf -- but not sure why they wouldn't give Kimbrel a one year deal and go all out in a run to repeat, since this is likely the last time we'll have this collection of players together.

Still, we're pretty loaded and should be an entertaining, competitive season.

I predict that before this game thread is over, d-money will say we didn't do enough this offseason, and Splendid Splinter will say he still doesn't think Cora is that good of a manager.

Sadly, that will never happen.

It's March 28 and we haven't even won a game yet FFS. I think it's time to abandon ship and start planning for 2020.

9 months ago at Fenway Gonzalez started for Seattle--as he will do tonight--and gave up 5 runs in 6 innings in a 5-0 loss.

Sale was pitching, and 8 of the 9 players above were in that June 23 lineup. Only change is Vazquez for Leon. The Sox batting order then was:

Betts

Beni

JDM

Moreland

Bogaerts

Nunez

Devers

Leon

JBJ

JBJ had 3 singles, Moreland a 2 run dinger, and Betts, Devers, and Leon rbi's.
