I agree, but at the very least Wright is a little younger than Pedroia. I think Wright is in the "nice if it works, but signs point to no" group.

Some of Wright's injuries were not arm related, and while the knee is very important to a pitcher, it might be better than arm problems.

Depending on how extensive the surgery was, I'm hopeful Wright can help us next year.

I agree. I wouldn't count on Wright producing anything. If he does, awesome, but I am doubting he does anything useful in the MLB ever again. Guy cant stay healthy

He’s only 12 months younger. Basically the same age at this point in their careers...

I wouldn't count him out yet, but I also certainly would not be relying on him to be in our starting rotation, or even to be our #6 guy. We need Eovaldi back.

Wright has been a nice, steady productive player since joining the Sox when healthy.

He also performs on a very team friendly contract.

Hopefully, he will get healthy again and make a contribution to the 2019 team and beyond. Knuckleballers seem

to be able to contribute at older ages so perhaps Wright will "age" well if he can recover from this last knee surgery.

Even Kimmi thinks we need Eovaldi.....I agree.

We don't exactly NEED him, specifically, but he could be a very nice acquisition, that's for sure. It would also be a nice little box office move for the fans. You know that if you polled Red Sox fans right now about 95% would say 'hell yes' to signing him. :)

Correct. It doesn't have to be Eovaldi, but I really think we need a RHP, and Eovaldi seems like the most logical choice.

He’s the simplest solution and the most familiar...

Yep. Such a shame he has had so many injuries.

Clean out surgery done this early means he has time to revover by spring training. He should be ready to go by mid February, but should be put on the roster using pencil only.

Yes, we have to plan for zero innings from Wright.

Pressure is on Johnson & Velazquez.

Since Wright is out of options, putting him on the DL will give us a little roster wiggle room in the pen.

I seriously doubt Wright is ready by May, let alone April.

There is no guarantee Pedroia is out at the start of the year. The problem with these microfractures is the goal is to create inflammation. Sometimes the inflammation leads to scar tissue and a cleanout is needed. Sometimes the inflammation worsens the arthritic condition and that is career ending. Sometimes, it does allow for some cartilaginous regrowth and extends a career. Rarely do you see a guy return to prior levels of mobility after the procedure. This is why expecting Pedroia to be able to play 2b might be far fetched. Daniel Murphy came back last year after microfracture, and after a 20 game suck fest, he dominated at the plate. But his legs turned to stone and his mobility as a 2b was entirely gone. This is why he is being marketed as a 1b this offseason. I wonder if Pedroia gets back to being pain free, can he show enough mobility to not be a total liability on the defensive end

Grady Sizemore’s career was completely derailed by micro fractures.

Pedroia is a case of wait and see and probably why DD has looked for stopgap measures like Quiroz

Sabathia hasn’t had microfracture. He has an arthritic knee that he has periodically drained and to this point it’s held up. But CC is looking to tack onto an illustrious career. If microfracture or makoplasty we’re in his future, he’d retire. It’s different for younger players trying to add prime years onto their careers. You do what you gotta do

So we start the year with pedrioa and Wright in the 60 day dl?

It wouldn't surprise me. I'd think at least one will.

It would ease our roster crunch a lot, but that's not a reason for doing it.
