On the change to pitch clocks:

“Still no data to support pitch timer causing more injuries: IL placements for pitchers from spring report date to Day 124 of season down from 379 in '22 to 360. Placements since 1st day of spring games down from 365 to 349. Regular season placements down from 285 to 239.” - Anthony Castrovince

Billy Eppler really got whacked for the Phantom IL thing.

Looks like Eppler is the fall guy for a sneaky little maneuver that has been fairly common in MLB. A maneuver that some fans even recommend being used at times. Maybe he can use a variant of the excuse ; " But officer, they were all speeding, why pick on me?" That always works.

But, they were speeding while injured! I swear...

So do this mean Trout and Rendon have been healthy all along?

I bet Cohen turned him in…

Probably not Cohen, but you do wonder who brought this to the attention of the powers that be.

Must have been pretty egregious, but to do it for a team that was out of contention? Maybe it was messing with someone's contract incentives?

REPORT: MLB is Discussing a Radical Six-Inning Minimum for Starting Pitchers

A starting pitcher would not be able to be pulled from a game unless one of the following:

6 IP

100 pitches

4 earned runs

injury - with IL stint to follow

I can't see that happening. Even 4 IP, 50 pitches or 3 ERs wont happen.

I like that baseball is thinking up ways to return starting pitchers to prominence but I don't know if this gets them closer to that happening. The real problem - at least IMO - is max effort all the time and I don't know how to fix that problem.

I guess it would eliminate the use of an " opener" and bullpen game, if nothing else. Personally, I am against all of the tinkering with the rules. The third wild card is a money making scam, the ghost runner is an abomination , stolen bases have become too easy and the pitch clock is harmful to pitchers. And the shorter games result in a higher percentage of TV time devoted to commercials. Watch a game, when they go to a commercial, switch to another game , chances are good you will get another commercial. If you try a third game, you may get the commercial hat trick.

Most disgusting is when a network splits my screen in half to show an ad while an inning is still being played. I'm going to start marketing TV screen half-curtains for cranky old fans, and become a hundredaire.

f*** you, Opener!

Why didn’t MLB just contract the Rays? Every time the Rays come up with some clever strategical plot, MLB tries to ban it. If the Rays deployed more hit-and-run plays, MLB would ban that too..

Too many whiny bitches out there. “These games are too long.” Whatever.

If MLB wants to make their game more appealing to fans, why not look at the broadcasting side and not the baseball?

Even if that rule was implemented, there would be a clear “fake an injury” sign that teams would use as a loophole. It’s a stupid rule idea.

The idea includes the "must go on IL," if a pitcher comes out due to injury.

And base umps must keep their hands in their pockets during all pitches to avoid the temptation of solo TV time calling swinging strikes on hitters who only bat their eyelashes.

It's way past time baseball checked the check-the-check; those aren't swings, never were, and appeals add nothing to the game.

I don't have a problem with the stolen bases and believe the pitching clock is not impacting pitchers at all. What is impacting pitchers is max effort for each pitch. If they dialed it back and learned more command and control, their arms would last longer.

Ads have been around forever, I just don't like the online betting ones.

Announcers have always read ads in between plays, but we could still ignore them and follow the game on the tube. But actual commercials? Never during an inning, not to mention cutting screens in half, when viewers are trying to watch the action. We can't even X them out like pop-up ads on computer monitors.

“Tupacito Marciano, the Commissioner has weighed the evidence and we find you guilty of betting on baseball, and your punishment is a lifetime ban from MLB.”

(Knocks gavel)

“This banishment was brought to you by Fanduel.”

But at what point do the folks complaining about the new rules become the whiny bitches?

Even if it’s the majority? MLB heard complaints about the game, and that why changes were made.

I doubt any of the complaints on either side were the majority…
