Well, Jalen Beeks got us Eovaldi.

Santiago Espinal got us Pearce.

Saun Anderson & Gregory Santos got us Nunez.

Stephen Nogosek, Gerson Bautista and Jamie Callahann got us Addison Reed.

Are you saying we don't have farm hands like these to trade this summer?

No, I didn't say that, was just curious as to the poster's thoughts.........

Well, it does remain to be seen who is correct.

You know damn well, if the Yanks signed Sale to this great deal, you'd be pumped up.

Many felt he was worth $33-35M x 5 years

Of course, but I'd say the consensus opinion before "hindsight" was that it was an underpay and for less years than open market expectations.

Do you disagree with that assessment?

Would you be happy, if the Yanks got him on those terms?

I think de Grom just signed for less, no?

deGrom is also older and had more arm issues...

Jacob deGrom, who is nine months older than Chris Sale, has 892.2 MLB innings on his arm while Sale has 1,482.1 MLB innings on his arm.

DeGrom has tossed 418.2 innings over the past two seasons while Sale has thrown 372.1 innings.

The 2018 fWAR rankings:

... and over the past five seasons:

it's not really a comparison. deGrom wasnt scheduled to hit FA until 2021. he is buying the last 2 arb years for security.

He's not even a year older and what exactly are the "more arm issues" aside from the TJS?

TJ isn’t enough?

Which makes a huge difference.

He'll make $40M over the next 2 years (would have been arb years of $17M + $23M).

He then makes $33.5M for 2 years before opt out chance. Then, $30.5M and $32.5M after the opt out and counting the option year.

That's more than Sale gets,

Well, wouldn't that be a singular arm issue rather than plural arm issues?

And I think I may be more concerned with a shoulder issue than someone who has had a successful TJS.......

You never answer my questions.

You stated it was an underpay, I showed a similar aged pitcher who just signed for less.

And yes, you're happy when it works out, not so much when it doesn't.

So with Pearce and Pedroia starting the season on the DL, we will go with 12 field players with Travis, Holt and Nunez filling in and 13 pitchers. Not getting either Pearce or Pedroia back during the first 10 days of the season.

Even successful TJS have an expectancy of 600 innings. It’s a big deal...

You keep talking hindsight.

I'll ask again, would you be happy, right now, if the yanks had just signed Sale to the same contract he just signed with the Sox?

It wasn't less, if you don't count arb years.

That “similar pitcher” has been worth 17 fewer WAR in 2 fewer seasons...

Cora said Price is available out of the bullpen in the first two games in Seattle.

Price will pitch the fifth game. I thought this was interesting.
