Maybe rumors of his arm going kaput are just rumors.

Oh no stop right there. It has been spoken. he is spindly and frail - he is 30 (just too old) - he clearly is destined for a physical downfall - He surely is done and will never be offered a decent contract again. lol

Any word on how he’s doing? Maybe he’s too skinny and needs to eat more? I know a good Big Mac makes me feel better....... K that’s a lie :( I just like the taste of them.

I don't like that there has been no update on this since last night.

Exactly my thoughts. If it was just a cold or something not serious we probably would have heard by now.

That was directed at me.

But it does seem odd that he would defend the durability of a guy who went on the DL twice this year and hasn't been the same pitcher since...

it is just me notin - I'll admit I am a huge Chris Sale fan not just because of his pitching ability. Everything about him screams tough tough athlete to me. i like guys like him.

He has been on the dl this year but I choose not to buy into the thought that this marks the beginning of the end for him. He certainly wan't the same the other night but that could be due to many things one of which could actually be inactivity.

The impression i'm getting from you is that it is just inevitable from here on out that he will just be going downhill. I don't think that anyone can say that with any certainty.

Is this where you give me the facts and figures again that verify your beliefs about aging athletes ? lol

Come on notin, how did you know that that was directed at you? Am I that obvious?

He's probably reading this thread as we speak and is so turned off by this forum that he is ready to just jump ship. He might be even considering retirement since his demise is now imminent. He is 30 - too damn old for us. lol

I can go all facts and figures, but really, if you've been watching baseball you know them already.

Sale isn't done. I never said he was. I just don't think giving him a 6 or 7 year deal after next season is a wise idea, and his aent will absolutely be asking for a 6 or 7 year deal The Sox will have had him for most of the best seasons of his career and they did that part right, but like in any relationship, you have to know when to say goodbye. And as Branch Rickey said "it's better to get rid of a player a year too early instead of a year too late."

Sale will be tough to replace in 2020. That goes without saying. But at some point, Sale himself won't be a good replacement. So if the Sox bring him back for 7 years, and he gives them 3 good years before he turns into another in a long, long, long list of free agent contract non-performers, will the last 4 justify the first 3?

If so, and we establish prior performance can justify a very poor finish, why was everyone so down on Hanley and Sandoval? And why are people still down on Price?

And Branch Rickey was fired by the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1950 -- 5 years before they won their one and only World Championship. Rickey went to the Pirates for 5 years and finished last every year but one. In that other year, he finished next to last.

Looks like maybe we should sign a new David Price every year.

Hey notin - we agree on something. i never said that the Red Sox should pony up a 6 or 7 year deal for Sale. They might but I doubt it. I think that many free agents are signed to lengthy contracts the look outrageously bad in there latter years. If you are mega rich and can get 4 very good years and couple of scratchers - yup somebody would bite on that especially if those very good ones are similar to what Chris Sale has given to date. At some point everyone slows down we know that but at what point is the question. If you think, like you might, that this is the beginning of a slow decline for Chris Sale, I think that there are plenty on board who would agree. I don't but that doesn't matter. I don't think that he is quite ready for the old folk's joint just yet.

Would you like him as much if he cut up the Friday night reds into little bits with a scissor and dumped the pieces in Cora’s office?
