Well boys & girls...we have done it. for the 3rd year in the row we are ALE Division Champs.

Now is when the real fun begins. 11 Wins. that is all we need to have a Parade.

Opponent TBD between Oakland and NYY on Wednesday night. Who do we prefer?

A 17 inning game would be nice.

We have Sale going in Game 1 vs the #2 for our opponent. I like our chances. I am of the belief that Sale is fine and has been holding back his past few starts. Saving those bullets for October baseball.

As long as the starting pitching holds together, the Sox can beat either team.

It's up to Sale and Price, as scary as that sounds.

In a look at some mirror imagery, it's interesting that an 11-0 record would be an incredible sweep of the playoffs and WS. Our three primary starters career combined playoff records are 0-11, with a 6.18 ERA. It's time for those 3 to turn that record around and an 11-0 run would be just the way to do it.

I prefer the A's winning - only so we can focus on baseball and not have to deal with the psychodrama that comes with a Yankees series and the endless media referendum on it. The A's series would just be a lot less insufferable from a media coverage perspective.

As far as baseball reasons - I don't care. All these series are hard.

I'd prefer the A's just because it's a match up we haven't really seen recently.

That 2003 series was a sneaky classic.

Given how much drama and success the Sox have given us the last 15 or so years, GREAT series and comebacks like the 2003 ALDS vs Oakland and 2007 ALCS vs Cleveland sometimes slip under the radar. Or even Boston in 2008 nearly completing a crazy miraculous comeback in the ALCS.

Yup, it was a good one. I remember watching that long ass game 1 and the brutal collision in game 5. It was a really even series with most of the games being very close.

My biggest source of anger about the "Pedro thing" in the ALCS was that it was the SECOND TIME Grady hung him out to dry. After nearly kicking Game 5 away, how do you go to that well again?

.

I was at games 3 & 4 of that series. it was an amazing experience that i will never forget.

Game 3 trot nixon walkoff in extras and game 4 Manny 1st to home on an 8th inning gapper by ortiz. Fenway was bonkers.

I have to think game 5 of that series, which was an elimination game for the Sox, was about the most exciting post-season comeback I have ever seen. The Sox were down 3 games to 1 and trailed 7-0 in the seventh inning and managed to take that series all the way to game seven...

Clutchness was simply oozing out of J D Drew that game.

I have always felt that was his best post-season work, as opposed to the 2007 ALCS grand slam in a blow out game...

I certainly don't disagree that 2008 was his best. But I don't like playing the retrospective game either, as has been done with the 2007 grand slam. Someone could also argue, rather absurdly, that Damon's grand slam in 2004 wasn't that big of a deal since we won 10-3.

Good point on the psychodrama.

Yet another reason to pull for the A's, as if we needed any more reason.

Ha ha. Nice!

He could have been even more clutch in that series if the umpire hadn't taken the out of his hands by calling strike 3 on an obvious ball, with a young David Price the opposing pitcher. That call still sits with me.

The point wasn't that Drew's slam wasn't important. But rather that his eighth inning 2 run home run to bring the score to 7-6 and his ninth inning game-winning hit were more important than that slam...

My point is that isn't really fair to reference the 'blow out game' aspect-and I have heard this numerous times, mostly from Drew-bashers. The score was 0-0 when Drew hit the slam. I also get your point.

Yes, but also the 1st inning. The 8th inning shot (and his 9th inning game-winning HR against the Angels in game one of the 2008 ALDS) were his best clutch moments.

But people really do like grand slams. And Drew is really remembered for nothing else, despite being an amazing post-season player for the Sox.

As you might remember fro BDC, I have always been an ardent Drew supporter...

I was a big fan of his as well. What a talent.

Well, the Cubs sure showed what can happen to a 95 win team with home field advantage when your guys can't hit and score. Generally great pitching by multiple throwers, fans support to the max, but just didn't get them anywhere except a long vacation.

As so many here have said, the playoffs do not conform to long or medium term trends and stats. It's strictly what have you done for me today. All for lack of just one more win during the long season. Let's hope the Sox see this and react well. Meanwhile Theo and Joe M. can sit back and watch.

Another watcher is the much beloved Buck Showalter, late of the Oriole dynasty who managed to lose more games than any team won. Way to go Bucky, may you never grace a dugout again.

The Athletics didn't even belong in the conversation. Hope they bought round trip tix to Oakland's really swell airport. Maybe they can catch the BART home.

This comment kind of points out why he had detractors. He was apparently talented but it wasn't reflected in the kind of numbers usually associated with that. It was a case of a good player whose performance and numbers didn't appear to many to meet the level of expectation of his perceived talent.

Game 2

Yankees 6

Red Sox 2

Price threw up on himself once again in the postseason.

Tanaka pitched like an Ace. His FB was dotting and his sinker was devastating. The Yankees BP was more than solid.

Bright spots:

Joe freakin Kelly. Also the girl in the stands with the “joe Kelly fight club” T-shirt.

Brazier “get in the f***ing box”

Day off today. Regroup. Back to battle tomorrow night in the boogie down. I hope Porcello is ready to go but eovaldi may need to step up for game 3.

Down to best of 3.

Agree on the talent. Five tool player, sort of. Great arm and skill in playing right field. Hit and hit with power. Baserunning only OK. But I never liked him because he never played enough.

GAME 3 ALDS

BOSTON 16

NYY uno

Evo pitched like a STUD. our hitters showed they are HITTERS. 16 runs scored...only 2 of them via HR.

we basically went to the boogie down and beat the f***ing snot out of 55k screaming Neanderthals.

Cora's lineup changes worked perfectly. starting Evo in game 3 worked perfectly.

holt with the very first Postseason Cycle.

2 W's down....9 to go.

Game 4 ALDS

Red Sox 4

Yankees 3

SERIES OVAH. good guys win 3 games to 1.

Big D Rik pitched 5 awesome innings. in realtime we thought Cora went to the Pen too soon but it worked as we bridged to a clean 9th inning for Kimbrel. Barnes pitching an Awesome 6th. Braz pitching an awesome 7th. Chris Sale pitching an awesome 8th. Kimbrel tried to take a dump on the mound but Sanchez justmissed one and nunez/pearce made a great play to end the game with the tying run at 2b.

What did this series tell us? that the Red Sox are still the Hammer and the Yankees are still the Nail.

Congrats to us. this feels GOOD!

3 Down, 8 to go.
