Mauer just hit a grand slam. Twins lead the Yankees 10-1

That should make for a full game toward the pennant. Ninety nine wins for us. Good day for the sox.

My MLB app told me that this third straight postseason ties a record for the Sox. Have they really never made the postseason 4 years in a row? That's depressing, I hadn't really considered that.

Nope. Never 4.

We did go 6 out of 7 from 2003-2009. Those two times (3 - 1 out- 3) were our only two 3 games streaks evah!

Until now.

Every game closer to clinching gives Cora more and more opportunity to experiment as he prepares for the post season which is obviously what he is doing. Maybe with 7-8 games left he will likely try to get the team really focused and will stop experimenting so much as a means to show them that its time for the real show. Nothing wrong with it. He has games to play with.

Can there be any doubt that the John Henry era has been transformational?

Actually, that's not true. All you have to do is read the game threads to discover that Cora continues to make the same old dumb rookie manager mistakes. Including last night's game.

It is a falsity to think that a good bullpen makes a good manager. It's actually the reverse. A skillful manager can take any bullpen and make them effective. And it's so simple. Just bring in the right guy at the right time. Cora hasn't figured that out yet.

There is no doubt that the alabaster-faced billionaire has been a godsend.

The best thing about Henry, besides his money, is that he's a legit baseball junkie who wants to win as many titles as possible.

Lot of bad GT mojo this season, luckily it doesn't seem to have hurt too much.

That's how good Cora is. He can manage around our s*** mojo. Farrell last year would just sit back and let the mojo overtake him. Obv.

Could it be that no matter who he chooses, they will fail?

I thought he did a great job last night.

99 wins.

Best record in MLB.

6th best pen ERA.

7th most k's for a pen (only 17th most innings).

7th best pen BAA.

I think Cora has figured it out just fine.

Because there are no right guys out there with the exception of Kimbrel and Cora is left in just about the same place Hinch was in last year. "Take Any bullpen and make them effective". Thats optimistic.

Take our own division. Now that Buck has gone off the managerial cliff edge there is one truly interesting, good manager in the whole division, Cash IMO. Cash is followed by Cora who exhibits real possibilities followed by three utter and complete fails since Buck now appears to have lost touch with his team. The bottom three are Buck, Boone and Gibby. Boone only saved from worst Manager in the division by the awful Gibby.

Those percentages are not unusual. They are in fact the norm. Taken across MLB then you would have 6 good managers, 6 more exhibiting signs of and some potential to be a good manager, 6 guys in some transitional phase usually in the wrong direction and twelve utter and complete fails. Cash by the way was awful his first year. Cora is way better than awful in his first season.

Cora always has a plan and he is always in the game. I, along with many others, was wondering why he pulled Moreland back in favor of Holt. Even if Holt had struck out, Cora had a very good rationale for making that move. Holt's HR made Cora look like a genius. The dude has the Midas touch.

Not so sure.

We could probably be 145-0 if not for Cora.

i think Cora has done a great job overall for his first season ever managing. i have only had a handful or so of complaints for the year that i have pointed out in the Cora thread. but taking a look at the numbers you posted above i do wonder if those numbers are going the wrong way? i feel like most of the year we have been 1-3 in those categories. we should be getting stronger/better...not worse. is that on Cora? is he not utilizing the relievers to their fullest potential? IDK. the 99 wins certainly can hide any miscues with the pen use. but it is a bit concerning (at least to me) to see us dropping down to 6-7 in those categories as we near the Postseason....

The real path to 145-0:

Fire Farrell

Hire Cora

I looked at the numbers last month. We're about exactly where we were then.

The pen started off fantastic, but it was a rate that was probably not going to hold up (ie Joe Kelly).

Pedroia is worth at least Kevin Cash bullpen coach.

Applewatch cheating Pedroia is worth at least whatever I'm going to spend on lunch today. Unfortunately, my lunch won't cost $16M. :(
